  1. yeah guys i bought the 840 non pro, getting it to boot as I type this.
  2. Yea seems there is not much differentiating good ssd's these days. 840 series it is in all likeness. Its the evo if I find one
  3. Yeah, I do not think I am going with these. Will stick to samsung or intel at max. I basically need to get an os drive before my 5-6 year old seagate dies on me. Will probably be picking up one of the above options tomorrow. Thank you good sir, for your help and advise.
  4. Yeah the corsair's are out now. The performance from the striped Intels is very attractive indeed. One issue comes to mind though, my MB would run out of SATA 3 connectors. Currently I run my os drive (aging Seagate Barracuda 500 gb) and my scratch disk (wd black 1 tb) from the 2 available sata 3 ports. Back up is on the remaining 2 sata 2 ports. 4 in total. I cant see me being able to get all that to run. I might chuck my backup disks in a NAS/ DAS and run the whole shebang through thunderbolt. But that's for the future. Edit: Just saw the kingston v300 in raid part. Let me get back to you on this. Thanks for the info btw ..
  5. I doubt that i will find an Intel ssd with the performance of the Samsung 840/ 840 Evo for the price. I was considering Corsair too but the gentleman's reply after yours states that they too are not up to the performance quota. Thanks for the information, even reviews concur with your statement. I kinda like Corsair, my case, ram, fans and cooler are from them. I'm now looking at the Samsung offerings.
  6. Cool, i'll do some reading and make up my mind. Again, thank you so very much for your assistance. Have a good one
  7. Thanks a ton for all your time and help I'm trying to locate the evo version at the local shops. One more question - How about Corsair force 3's? I've heard good reviews and use their memory, so have used the brand before. They have listed 2 million hours MTBF which is over 80,000 hours more than the Samsung.
  8. http://www.samsung.com/in/consumer/memory-storage/ssd/ssd-840-pro Thanks
  9. I have a WD Black 1 TB as a scratch disk at the moment. 12,500 INR is comfortable. If there is not much of a difference in performance between the 840 and the 840 pro, I think I might have found my first shortlist. Are there any other drives with better NAND, controllers and IOPS out there. Once i get a shortlist down, I'll research the crap out of them and come up with the winner.
  10. About 200 USD converted at today's rate. I can bump it up by say another $50 if I get a real nice drive. Thanks a ton for all the help. Cheers
  11. Would you guys recommend the Samsung 840 series? What are the pros of the PRO over the regular 840. Is it justified to pay the extra bit.
  12. I did some quick reading on the Intel 335, Anand Tech does not HIGHLY recommend this drive. Endurance is not the best. Less than 1000 P/E cycles. Availability is also not very easy my side of the world.
  13. http://www.flipkart.com/computers/computer-components/internal-hard-drives/pr?sid=6bo%2Cg0i%2Cno8 Is it good? Let me have a look on some reviews.
  14. In India, New Delhi to be exact. Will probably order of a local online retailer.
  15. Hey That seems like the perfect choice, will probably have to sell my kidney or hold up a bank to afford it. To clarify my budget is about 200 us doll hairs. Thanks
