/proc/ - processor directory
/cpu_info - file with the cpu info

I never had or heard of this sort of problem, you should ask on the ubuntu forums and maybe open a bug report.

At most, this is anti-consumer. I think Intel does this as well though, so it's not particularly abnormal. The fun part though is that the only way they can prove you violated the terms of your warranty is by you telling them. I'm not advocating for dishonesty, but it seems justified since some CPUs don't come with stock coolers anyways.

This does seem odd, I wonder when this was added to the warranty terms and if there is any similar writing in the Intels warranty for comparison, as I wonder if this might be standard boilerplate to protect them from warranty abuse.
