  1. Anything that gets stuck in a slot/socket could cause resets. Some thermal pastes can be electrically conductive as well which for sure would cause resets/shut offs. Clean out the slot and it should fix the issue.
  2. The Sapphire brand is pretty good.Basically the AMD equivalent of EVGA
  3. More than likely a mining card(considering the seller was selling multiple GPUs) which doesn't really affect long term life of the card as long as the cards were properly card for like any other electronic. Overall though, the MSI Armor Cooler wasn't a great cooler so if you're going to really be pushing the card or playing really demanding game titles,I'd suggest you look for one with a better cooler but if it's what you can afford at the moment and plan on playing less demanding titles like League/CSGO/Warframe/Fortnite,I'd say go for it. Just make sure to apply fresh thermal paste to help out the cooler as it could've dried out a bit.
  4. While it's true that the CEOs are related, there's more to running a company than just one figurehead especially for a large company that's gone public like AMD/Nvidia. There's shareholders/department managers and the CFO( Chief Financial Officer) who handle the enormous cost and revenue for companies. Large companies like that also get audited pretty heavily to ensure that price fixing doesn't occur which isn't that hard to spot considering there's only really 2 large graphics card producers in the world.
  5. I fully agree but if you do play any games that want more VRAM( my original message was before you stated what games you played) it's not a bad option to search around for a higher VRAM card especially if it's only a few dollars more than it's lower spec'ed model.
  6. If you are considering getting a nicer gpu, then I would honestly upgrade the power supply. You generally want to keep a decent overhead of 100w over what you actually use for your system and you're already pretty close to the 400w your current psu can supply. If you want a budget friendly but also decent gaming experience,I would aim for a GTX 770 or 780 used. Your CPU will bottleneck pretty much most modern graphics cards anyways so why bother getting something like a 1060 if you wont be able to use it to it's full potential. You can find a 2GB or even a 4GB card for around $100 and quite often under that price.
  7. Why not just replace the fan with another oem fan? Sounds like the bearing on the original fan went bad is all.
  8. We need more information before we can try to troubleshoot anything. What is your current build? What GPU are you using atm? Does the issue happen under load or during idle? What temperature is the GPU at when it turns off? Is the issue intermittent or is it continuous?
  9. One thing that does strike me as odd is the fact that you could not change the clock speed of the GPU and only the voltage.I have seen a computer that would shut off randomly under load that was caused by a short in the GPU. Some power supplies do have over voltage protection that will shut off the PSU if a component is drawing way too much current. Perhaps that is what is happening here considering that you have tried other known components and the issue remained.
  10. And you made sure to unplug the psu and switch it off right before working on the PC?
  11. More than likely, you have to update the motherboard bios in order to use the new Ryzen.Use the old chip to update the bios and then switch over to the new 2700 Edit: more OP responses cleared up this possibility.
  12. http://www.deepcool.com/product/cpucooler/2017-06/7_6732.shtml Scroll down and you'll see an image of the cooler and the part of the cooler that actually makes contact with the CPU. See how the copper heat pipes are separated by the aluminum plate that actually holds down the cooler to the motherboard? That plate is holding in heat that isn't going to the heatpipes. Now compare that to a Hyper 212 Evo http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/cpu-air-cooler/hyper-212-evo/ See how the same heat pipes join together where they touch the CPU? That's a superior design that cools better.
  13. He meant the FTW2 in terms of the EVGA model. But pretty much all 1080's will perform very similar in game. If you care about RGB then just buy one that has RGB options such as an Asus Strix 1080.
