It's that time of year again! Time to annoy every one here with my rides. Today was the first ride of the season. 77km in 3 hours 38 minutes. I was only originally aiming for 60km, but I was feeling pretty good around the 30km mark. I regretted it around the 50km mark, though. My legs feel like spaghetti noodles right now. I didn't do any training or anything over the winter, so this is my first time back on the bike since October. I am really feeling it. Total this year so far: 77km

This is the keyboard I use, but I had it modded to allow the switches to be hot swappable. Doubled the total cost of the keyboard, but totally worth it. None of the other split or ergo boards appealed to me, particularly as I'd been using the membrane version of this for the last seven years.

I used a light amount of liquid lube using the "bag lube" method and then dipped the ends in 205g like you recommended. It seems to have sorted it out.

I'm around 190cm. I should have got a size 61, but got a 58 instead as it was on clearance and $700 off. I also prefer a more upright riding position as I do long-distance endurance riding, usually between 100-162km a ride, hence the extender. I prefer aluminium over carbon. You can dent it, smash it, scratch it, scrape it, and it keeps going. To me, it's the sweet spot between steel and carbon without the price of titanium.

I got my bike back from the shop last weekend. They had to put an extender to raise the handlebars up high enough for my fit. The joys of being tall.

I got the Kinesis Edge with Cherry MX Browns. The website says "Genuine Cherry MX Switches," so I'm inclined to believe that they're not fake. I had the keyboard modded to make it hot swappable. @GarlicDeliverySystem I'll check out the forcebreak mod. Context: So I got myself a mechanical keyboard (Kinesis Edge, modded to make it hot swappable) with cherry MX browns and, while I love the feel and sound, there is absolutely horrible spring ping and I've tried everything from foam to a desk pad to lubing the switches and nothing seems to work. It is driving me nuts! I think I've isolated it to the springs in the switches when I release the key. ("Ping" is the correct term here, right?). I have read every article and post I can find and tried everything that was recommended. The keyboard is hot swappable, so I was wondering: would simply getting different switches be a potential solution? If so, any recommendations for something similar to a cherry MX brown?

I wonder what the aspect ratio of that setup was.

Given David's personal characteristics, I think it's understandable that he'd use more lube than someone like Linus would deem necessary.

I actually went with gigabit because it was actually marginally cheaper than staying with my previous 800megabit connection from a different ISP. Gotta love Canada's crappy telecom oligopoly.

And motorists park in the bike lane and pedestrians walk/jog in the bike line. We're all shit. My hypothesis is that cyclists get a disproportionate amount of shit because most people are motorists (at least in my corner of this god forsaken shit show) and most people are pedestrians. So people look at the group they are a part of and the shit they pull doesn't piss them off as much or stay with them. Cyclists, being the out-group, get more hate as a result since most people aren't cyclists.

I stop usually sometime in September or October. I'm just not having fun if I'm too cold, so I usually hang up my bicycle gloves for the year once it gets below 10-15C consistently. Not to mention the days get so short that you barely have any daylight. I'll start up again probably in May. I actually just took my bike in to get cleaned and tuned up; also getting some cross top brake levers installed as well as a new stem. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a 120mm stem at a 35 degree angle?

My adventures in mechanical keyboards continue! I think I need to lube my springs to get rid of some awful ping, but my switches are not hot swappable, which would mean that the traditional way would require desoldering (can't do myself). I put some acoustic foam in the back, and while it's helped, there's still noticeable ping. I came across this tutorial for lubing switches without desoldering. Would this lube the springs as well? I'm particularly interested in the "pull-stem" method as it seems cleaner, even though it takes more time. Looking for: are there any online businesses that do custom keyboard soldering work? Looking to make my mechanical keyboard hot swappable so I can easily lube the springs. Context: After extensive research, I bought myself a Kinesis Freestyle Edge keyboard with Cherry MX Browns and the tenting accessory. I absolutely love the typing experience on this board, especially after using the Freestyle 2 for nearly ten years. (I did look at a tonne of other split tenting keyboards, but none of them had what I wanted) While I love the keyboard, it has awful ping that's driving me crazy. I've tried to find QMX-Clips as I've heard they can help, but can't find them in stock anywhere, and I keep getting an error on the Uniqey website when I try to order them. I've also ordered a piece of sorbothane acoustic foam to jam in there, so we'll see on Friday (when it's scheduled to be delivered) if that'll help. But, the switches aren't hot swappable. Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that I can't lube the springs without desoldering the switches. I've never soldered, don't own a soldering iron, and have some pretty bad tremor in my hands (medical issue), so I'm not keen on doing it myself; even if I had the equipment and knew how, I don't think my hands are steady enough (it's why I had to give up building Gundams). I'd like someone to hopefully do it for me. I am, of course, happy to pay for this; I don't expect anyone to do it for free. Are there any businesses or individuals with good reputations (ie, good work, not scams) that do this kind of thing?

Wait, is this a VA panel or IPS? I remember seen "IPS" on the box when Andy was unloading it. Just rewatched, nm, it says "Mini LED." Personally, I love VA panels with quantum dot. I've never had good luck with IPS displays.

I recently used the GUI upgrade tool to uptrade to Linux Mint 21.3 MATE. I'm getting an error when I refresh updates. I've never particularly liked IPS displays. Back in 2017 when I was looking for a monitor, I tried a bunch of IPS displays and returned them all. I ended up settling on a VA QLED panel. I found IPS to have really uneven lighting across the screen. That said, this was for a 34 inch ultrawide. I'm far less picky when it comes to laptop displays. The bigger the display, the more glaring any flaws or annoyances become.

So I recently got myself a 49 inch Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 (the VA QLED version). It was $800 off on sale, so I decided to pull the trigger. I had a Samsung CJ791 34 inch VA QLED monitor and felt I could use more space. I had tried the C4RG90 VA QLED 49 inch, but I returned it; the 1800R curve just wasn't enough for such a massive display and it was weird looking at things in the corners. After this experience, I knew that no other 49 inch monitor was going to do it, especially as LG's 49 inch curved displays are usually even subtler than 1800R. The 1000R of the Neo G9 is perfect. Things in the corners don't look weird and the whole thing just feels right. The picture also looks amazing. The wider you go, the more aggressive a curve I recommend. Funnily enough, I bought the Neo G9 for productivity (ALL THE SPREADSHEETS!) rather than gaming, but I did have to buy a new GPU since my poor little RX6600 XT couldn't push anymore than 60hz on the desktop and 20fps in games, so I had to upgrade (went with the RX7800 XT and it seems to be a good pairing, given that the Neo G9 is almost pushing the same number of pixels as 16:9 4k) Anyway, just my two cents.
