First impressions:
The touch screens are really neat, the main drawback is steam's insistence on big picture mode, and also the controller does feel a little cheap (except the buttons, nice and meaty). I rebound both of the paddles to B so that I can roll in dark souls really easily, as I'm used to paddles on my Razer Sabertooth for dodges. The touch pads working exactly like a mouse pad is a super interesting feature, and I plan on testing it out with plenty of couch gaming since that's what this is intended for. I think people gave it poorer reviews because it was used as a replacement for a traditional controller, but its strengths lie in being a bit of a middle ground between a mouse and thumbstick. The premade configs for games seem pretty practical.

I fully intend to move over to PC based couch gaming sometime this year. It always looks like an option worth exploring. I'm not sure how good my reaction time could ever be on the track pad provided but it would only effect maybe two games that I play.
I am currently looking at lapboard like this Roccat SOVA. Kinda clunky to have around the couch/bed though.
