Honestly I'd never heard of him until seeing this news, but seeing someone who had such a profound impact on computing pass away is always depressing. Love them or hate them, PDFs are pretty much ubiquitous everywhere you look, and while they have their downsides they definitely get the job done better than a lot of alternatives.

looks like a solid build to me, I don't see anything bad about it. Unless you're doing streaming or production stuff occasionally I would go with a r5 5600x instead, you get about the exact same gaming performance for like $100 less.

is your college assigning you a project you have to make? are they just telling you to create something using thwe skills you've accumulated so far? your question is exceedingly vague.

Everything on that list seems good except the GPU, I know you're waiting for better stuff like a 3080 to be available but a 1050ti is just going to do poorly especially at 1440p. If you guys are fine with that (because hey it'll at least do a lot better than his old mac) I guess it'll do when/is GPUS go back to normal, but personally I'd try to find like a used RX580, 1650 Super, 1660, or something

Adorable Cat got a reaction from pop2trony in GeForce GTX 1050ti adding 6pin?
you could technically solder on a 6 pin connector, but it wouldn't do anything. The board might not even have the circuitry to use the power from the 6 pin connector, in that case it would be entirely useless. Not sure what you mean by "shooting down", like you have bad framerate drops? your GPU is most likely not the cause of that, it might be running low on RAM, your processor (or GPU if video is playing with GPU acceleration or something) could be too weak to run a game and netflix or whatever at the same time, or it could be a software thing, but the power connector wouldn't have any bearing on that.

alternatively, there's also probably a way to straight up disable the onboard gpu in the BIOS once you have a dedicated card installed so you don't have to bother with nvidia control panel stuff.

Yep. You might need to go into the Nvidia control panel and make sure that it's using the dedicated GPU instead of the integrated graphics, but it'll work fine. Also, remember to plug your monitor cable into the GPU itself, not the motherboard.

God, CNET makes it a pain to find anything on their articles. They always just link to their own past articles instead of the ONE THING the article is about and if they do link it, it's in yet another article that you need to carefully comb through.

    Summary

Gabe Newell (Valve founder) has partnered with Rocket Lab to include a 5 inch titanium replica of the gnome on the Electron rocket launching from New Zealand on Thursday. "Gnome Chompski" was originally featured in Half Life 2: Episode 2 where players could get an achievement by carrying him through the game and then placing him inside a rocket. In addition, Gabe has pledged to donate 1 dollar for every viewer of the launch to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the New Zealand Starship Children's Hospital.

As a huge half life fan I think this is really cool, and I'll probably watch the launch to contribute towards that donation. I'm also glad that gnome's gonna burn up in the atmosphere, I'll take that as payback for having to drag him through the car segment of episode 2.

I'm excited to see the result! one problem I can see you having is not enough room for an ATX power supply so you'll have to buy an ITX one and even then you may have to make some modifications to get it in.

You'll also probably have to use a PCIE riser cable to get a 2070S inside, and it'll have to be sideways because I don't see how it could stand upright in that case.

Adorable Cat got a reaction from Crunchy Dragon in Mag lev fans need 4 pin connector?
4 pin fan headers are PWM, that's the standard at least (if they weren't PWM they should be 3 pin connectors).

You may have to go into the BIOS under the fan control options (on my B450M PRO4 it's in the hardware monitoring section I believe) and change the fan control mode to PWM

Adorable Cat got a reaction from minibois in Using Thermal Paste on VRMs???
normally VRMs use thermal pads not thermal paste because they're affixed to the VRM with less pressure than like a GPU or CPU cooler, which means the paste isn't spread as much

Adorable Cat got a reaction from kaans42 in rx 5700 xt sapphire pulse overheat?
    move the computer?

the 5700xt draws more power than the GTX 970 and makes more heat, you can't really change this because it's the laws of physics. The temperatures being equal doesn't change this, it just means the 5700XT puts more heat into the air.

I suppose you could try to undervolt the card.

it'd gonna be really hard to find a half decent GPU under 100 USD, let alone Australian Dollars. Your best bet would probably be to either save some more money, or look on ebay for a cheap used RX570 or 1050/1050ti
