  1. I made my own minecraft server, a 1.18 PvE 100% vanilla server with a whitelist. If anyone's interested, I posted it on minecraft forums: https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/servers-java-edition/pc-servers/3125699-cat-land-1-18-snapshot-pve-survival-on-a-purely .

  2. yeah, as long as you don't accidentally install windows in the wrong area (i personally disconnect every drive except my new boot drive when I'm installing windows just so I don't have to worry about that, then I reconnect them after windows is installed.)
  3. you'd still be able to access that data and you could manually copy stuff over onto your new drive, at least that's what I've done every time I've upgreaded my boot drive. As for whether to clone or do a clean install, I've never tried cloning the drive so I don't have any input here. I know from experience copying stuff over can be a bit annoying, but idk if you'd run into issues cloning either.
  4. that's a m.2 SSD, it connects to a slot like this on the motherboard you probably destroyed that drive by plugging it into a SATA power connector.. Disconnect it from the power supply and hopefully your pc will boot again, otherwise you'll probably need at minimum a new PSU.
  5. something like https://www.amazon.com/100-240V-Transformers-Switching-Applications-Connectors/dp/B077PW5JC3/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=12v+power+supply&qid=1634073766&sr=8-3 would be a real cheap way to do it, you don't need like a pc power supply.
  6. It probably depends on how your school monitors students, if you're just signing into another microsoft account your school should only be able to monitor stuff directly tied to that microsoft account.

  8. I've got a NH D15 and yeah I can confirm it's plenty quiet. Just make sure you pick a good case, GamersNexus does really great in depth case reviews, their case review playlist is https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsuVSmND84QtrMP_niRTD2zIa3uUhxIvn. If you want even better thermals and you don' think you need the extra cores on the 5700G you could probably get a 5600G because at least what i see at https://www.anandtech.com/show/16824/amd-ryzen-7-5700g-and-ryzen-5-5600g-apu-review/11 they're pretty close in iGPU performance.
  9. does it look like this? (without the boxi just copied it from an amazon listing) Those are fan splitters, they let you connect multiple fans to the same fan header on your mobo (in case you have too many fans or not enough mobo headers or whatever else)
  10. every time someone asks when the gpu shortage will be over they add another 5 minutes to the shortage
  11. was this previous computer a pre built one? people like hp and dell like to manufacture e waste by making their power supplies useless on everything else. If it was anold computer and has a 20 pin instead of a 24 pin it should still work, I just wouldn't recommend using a power supply that old
  12. do they have any stickers or engraving on them? you might find the model number that way.
  13. is anything else plugged into the usb ports? "USB Device Over Current Status Detected ! !" sounds like either something attached to the usb port is broken or the usb ports themselves are broken/shorted.
  14. a 240mm liquid cooler seems a bit excessive on a 5600x to me (but there's nothing really wrong with it), other than that the build looks fine.
  15. with a 6700XT I'd get the Optix MAG322CQR-002 because you definitely have the gpu power to run it at 1440p, Unless you really want 240HZ for like ultra competitive gaming idk. 165HZ refresh rate is pretty good too, and the Optix MAG322 or whatever also seems to have the same brightness as the acer one (I think, I can't read german but I assume both of them say 300 cd/m^2)
  16. the gpu market doesn't make any sense right now. don't think too hard about it. I could probably sell my RX580 for 400 dollars right now...
  17. if you know how to solder (like pipe soldering, not electronics soldering) you could try (i don't know anything about pipe soldering though so maybe that's a bad idea). You could also order some thermal epoxy and try using that, that may have been what was originally on the heat pipe too.
  18. have you tried inserting the drive the other way? it looks like the keying (the little slots in the drive) match up that way.
  19. I got one of the 20oz water bottles when they first launched, then I got a 40oz a bit after those launched. They're super great stuff, they really do keep drinks at temperature for really long times. I pretty much use the 40oz one exclusively these days, I occasionally grab the 20oz one and fill it with coffee if I'm going on a road trip or something.
  20. you could get a 12 volt drill battery and hook it up to a power inverter like you'd use in a car
  21. Summary Charles "Chuck" Geschke died at age 81 died Friday according to Adobe. He founded Adobe with John Warnock in 1982 and was part of developing the PDF format and basically revolutionized modern printing and publishing. Quotes My thoughts Honestly I'd never heard of him until seeing this news, but seeing someone who had such a profound impact on computing pass away is always depressing. Love them or hate them, PDFs are pretty much ubiquitous everywhere you look, and while they have their downsides they definitely get the job done better than a lot of alternatives. 22. seems all good except I hope you mean "3900x" or "3700x", because the 3800x is nothing but a waste of ~$100 over the 3700x
  23. looks like a solid build to me, I don't see anything bad about it. Unless you're doing streaming or production stuff occasionally I would go with a r5 5600x instead, you get about the exact same gaming performance for like $100 less.
  24. Some motherboards (like the one you picked) have a BIOS flashing button that'll allow you to flash the BIOS even if you don't have a cpu for it. You can find out how in your mobo's manual, though a lot of B550/X570 motherboards will say "5000 series compatible" if the manufacturer has already gone and updated it for you.
  25. Everything on that list seems good except the GPU, I know you're waiting for better stuff like a 3080 to be available but a 1050ti is just going to do poorly especially at 1440p. If you guys are fine with that (because hey it'll at least do a lot better than his old mac) I guess it'll do when/is GPUS go back to normal, but personally I'd try to find like a used RX580, 1650 Super, 1660, or something
