  1. So lets say you wanted to stream to twitch playing in SuperUltrawide. Using this method. When I stream it's all about the experience of my viewers, not mine as much, so I'd be happy playing a game in 3840 x 1080 in a window, with all my stream garbage on the other half of the monitor, (I have a 40" 4k Monitor) But there are no games that I can find that will support that resolution on a 16x9 screen even if I'm running in windowed mode. How do you set something like this up?
  2. I"m confused about the question marks surrounding his Big Blue comment. Do the LMG editors really not know the History here? It was a very clever reference. Shows that this guy is more of a PC nerd than most people we see on LTT. Big Blue... IBM's super chess computer? As in Mac in the Power PC days were powered by IBM chips? Did seriously nobody get that reference? Consider this neckbeard disappointed.
  3. As an audio engineer I have to say. Reverb might cause standing waves, or rather reflections do, but the sound of reverb and the sound standing waves cause are 2 completely different things both subjectively and scientifically. I really think LMG needs a real true audio person on staff. With all the "RIP headphone user" jokes that even they say themselves. FWIW: Standing waves happen in rooms with parallel surfaces, where the reflections interact with the originl wave as they pass through each other. It's an issue with the resonance of the room. The reflections interfere with the original sound and the wave form will cancel each other out at certain frequencies and create a very physical "node" somewhere in the room where you will actually completely lose certain frequencies, even if you are standing there and listening with your ears (which makes mic placement very crucial), Standing waves refer to the frequencies that end up reinforcing each other in the reflection rather than cancelling each other, and they tend to sort of vibrate around these dead nodes in the room. Sort of like plucking a string, holding it still in the middle and having each half vibrate around it. It's hard to describe, but usually what you'll hear in that kind of situation is boomy bass frequencies, and other weird artefacts in the sound referred to as "comb filtering" You can hear these things demonstrated very easily by having a single speaker in the room playing a tone and just walking across the room. You'll hear the volume get louder and quieter as you pass through the nodes. That's what standing waves do, and it results in comb filtering. Add in the Reverb, and it's just a soupy mess. At least you didn't get any Flutter echo in the room with all the gear in there. That one sounds terrible. also. Hire me LMG lol. I'll move to Van no issues. I'll fix all the audio problems :P
  4. If I win I fully intend to drive there, it's only an 11 hour drive from me, and there are no laws forbidding inter-provincial travel. Of course I'll ask first if they are comfortable with it, but if it's on my dime and I follow all the recommendations I don't see them having a problem with it.
  5. Alright, screw it. I'm actually proud of it.. Most of the cringe is intentional, but not all of it. I'm less happy than I could be but I think it's a contender. Not happy with the audio, but I used what I had on hand. What do you think?
  6. I'm the Gary from Final Space in the screen shot. What an excellent take down of my accusation. lol Please discuss. Pedantic neckbeard arguments about qwerty vs dvorak vs. colemak welcome.
  7. I posted this in the comments on the video, but here are my thoughts: I have had 3 specific gaming setups in recent years. #1 was an Eyefinity setup 3x16:10, which was amazing. Then a cheap Korean 4K 40" monitor. Amaze balls, but even my GTX 1080 struggled to deliver 60fps in games even 2 to 3 years old at top settings. It had a subpar controller which hated switching resolutions, and if a game tried to force a res it didn't like the computer became completely unresponsive. It was really freaking awesome for document editing and content creation though, especially video editing. The MVA panel was almost as good as IPS for colour as well. I ended up switching to a Dell TN 144hz 1440p Gsync monitor because it was about $300 off through the IT store at my university. I don't think I'll go back to gaming on 4K, but I think if you really are a baller, and you want something over the top, VR or Surround is the way to go. if I could have 3 1440p high refresh rate g/freesync monitors that could keep up, with a stupid aspect ratio of 24:5 like I used to have with my 1050p's back in the day. I'd go for that over a high refresh 4K any time. Or maybe an ultrawide monitor with a 1440 height and high refresh rate.

  9. I might just be Linus's unicorn... I'm applying.
  10. I've been looking at ways to push my system as far as I can take it. This is a pretty cool vid for me because I'm running a 7700k on a z270 board totally stock right now. Which I think is running at 4.5 GHz. I'm running cooling with a Corsair H60 AIO, so I should probably be less of a wuss and get overclocking finally.
  11. My In Win 303 case mounts the PSU vertically I actually find it helps with having space for airflow and a cleaner look, at least in this case. (ignore the cable mess, i'm working on it)
  12. I've been watching a few videos. I think doing a full sleeve on individual cables sounds like just the tedius time consuming adventure that I would love. So that will be the first step. Does anybody have any insight as per the SLI question?
  13. Yeah, the cabling situation is a little messy because I've been in and out of there lately swapping drives and such. It used to be better, and the case really works with you if you want to do it cleanly. I've heard problems with airflow with the 707, but my experience with the 303 has been great in that regard. My PSU isn't fully modular. I can disconnect un-needed GPU power cables, and that's about it. Unless there is some magic way I don't know of to swap out the cables I'm stuck with them unless I buy a new PSU.
  14. Hi all. I have never been one to go top of the line in my builds, because I find the price creep to be just too much when you start hitting that (totally made up threshold) of the 70th percentile as far as parts and price go. But since I have been picking up several peripherals over the years which have stood the test of time, my upgrades are getting better and better without spending as much money. So I'll share my current rig specs and ask if you think there is anywhere else I could improve, and share some ideas I have been kicking around. Specs: Core i7 7700k @ stock speeds ASUS Z270 TUF Mark 2 MOBO Corsair Vengeance DDR4 32 GB (4x8) @ 2600 Mhz (running at 2133) MSI Aero GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5 Running stock (reference design, single fan etc) Corsair 850 Watt PSU (I can't remember the model number.. Probably TX850) In Win 303 Case For Sound: Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 KRK Rokit 5 x2 near field Monitors for Cooling: Corsair Hydro H60 All in one Cooler for the CPU EK Vardar 120 mm on the Rad 4 Corsair fans, 2 on the bottom of the case pulling, and 2 on the top in the PSU compartment pulling out the grate for the side panel. (it's a bit weird to describe if you don't own a 303 so I'll post a pic) for Storage: ADATA XPG m.2 2280 XS7000NP 128 GB NVMe drive x2 (one has Windows 10, and the other I plan to install Mint Cinnamon on, Tried it in RAID 0 for Windows, and never manager to get it to work) Sandisk 256GB SSD for games Seagate 1TB HDD drive for Storage I also have an Intel 256 GB SSD to RMA which will be used for more games. And a 3TB Toshiba HDD I recently pulled out to use in my NUC Nextcloud Build for a NAS For Peripherals: I have an eksbawks one controller with the wireless dongle Razer Ornata Chroma Keyboard Razer Deathadder Chroma Mouse for Displays: Dell S2716DG 27" 2560 x 1440 144Hz TN w/ Gsync Asus PB278Q 27" 2560 x 1440 60Hz IPS HTC Vive Right now I'm using a Dlink USB wifi dongle because plugging ethernet direclty into the mobo throttles my speeds for some reason. (i have 150 Mbit connection and plugged in directly I'm lucky to get 60 on speed tests) But on wifi I routinely get up to 175) And for occasional use, I have a usb DVD burner, because my case has no external drive slots. Upgrades? Installing Windows on that M.2 was a huge hassle even just normally. The UEFI + NVMe + RAID thing just... would not work. so I've given up on that unless somebody knows a magic pill that works. If that worked I'd probably install Mint on that Intel drive when I get it back from RMA to SLI or not to SLI? I had this video card in my previous SandyBridge build, and went with the reference model because it was the cheapest of the best, and I figured I'd be able to find another one for less money down the line. Of course... we know how prices are right now and I could probably sell this thing for a profit at this point. But assuming I can find a stock, reference GTX 1080 for a resonable price (less than $900 CDN) Would it even be worth it? I get confused with how this works. Given that I am running z270, does that mean running in SLI drops me to 8 PCIe lanes per card? If I do that what do I end up getting, like a 30% boost in framerates on a good day? I have no idea if this is even worth it at this point since I'm not running an extreme edition CPU. How about one of those expensive SLI bridges? Is it worth it to buy a 1080 TI and try to sell this one? Should I bother unlocking my ram's full clock speed. Is there risks involved and will it give me any real benefit? Should I try for a full water cooling loop? Custom? Could look pretty badass to watercool my GPU as well. That upper honeycomb lattice is designed to hold a huge radiator.... Add a thunderbolt card? I'm not planning on adding any additional storage to the Desktop, if I want more storage I'll upgrade my NAS. Or get a bigger SSD or something. I want to do something cool. But I don't know what else is left or if I really have any upgrade path with my current CPU/Mobo combo.
  15. The description says "new members can say hi here" so that's what I'm doing. Only recently have I started to binge watch LTT, despite watching Linus' vids from back in the NCIX days. Ever since the MaximumPC forums closed down I've been looking for a tech community to bother for help I think this might be the place. Primarily I am an audio engineer and I build guitars. I also like screwing with single board computers and hobby electronics, but I hope to jump in to all of the myriad of conversations and goings... on. here.. n stuff.. Cheers!
