  1. Hello! I've been running my trusty old system in a couple of different set-ups for a couple of years now. She runs pretty well, but I'm wondering if it might be time to upgrade the graphics card as it chugs a bit on some games. Unfortunately as I've not been building systems, I've been out of the loop for a while so have no idea the state of the market for graphics cards at the minute. My current system: i5-4460 (3.2GHz, quad core) 8gb ram GTX 750ti (EVGA ftw edition) 1189/1268MHz, 2gb 1080p monitor I don't have a big budget at all, so I guess the question I'm trying to ask is: if I buy a new GPU, would I get a meaningful upgrade in gaming performance for less than £200? I don't want to end up spending money to find I've barely made a difference that I'll notice. If there are any cards in this price range that you think would be a worthwhile upgrade to go for, please let me know! (Although it's pretty old now, I'm assuming the CPU isn't going to be a bottleneck?) Cheers!
  2. I've had an Honor 6x for about 9 months now. It's been fairly rubbish since I got it but I've put up with it because it has a lovely camera and I kind expected to get what I paid for given how cheap it is.Generally it runs okay, a bit slow, but cheap android slow not anything super out of the ordinary. But when it comes to certain apps: Spotify, Snapchat and the Camera app are the main culprits, it is basically unusable. I have to use spotify in offline mode most of the time just to get it to even vaguely work and even then I often have to restart the phone to make it functional and scrolling past about D in the artists causes the app to crash completely. Snapchat crashes so often that I have just deleted it from my phone because I can't use it, and the native camera app is painfully slow or just altogether doesn't work meaning I've missed a bunch of great photo opportunities. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced similar problems and it is just a cheap and not that great phone, or if this is unusual and maybe there is an issue with my handset that I need to sort out because I don't want to keep using a phone that takes 10 minutes to play one song on spotify. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  3. Cheers for the help guys! Think I will probably end up going for an old Lenovo as there's so many and a lot are refurbished with warranties
  4. Awesome man, seems like there's a lot about! Do you have any idea if the X1 Carbon is any good? I like the idea of something a bit lighter and there seems to be a few knocking around
  5. Cheers man! It doesn't look like there's a lot of 8540p aroud in the UK, would you say a lot of the other elitebook range of about the same spec are worth a look?
  6. Hi guys! Looking for some advice about a good laptop I can pick up used/refurbished on ebay or similar for fairly cheap (around £300-£400 hopefully). I've been using a chromebook for the last year or so and it's been pretty great but I need to be able to use a few applications that you just cant get on chrome and also be able to store a little more on it so I'm looking to pick up a fairly basic laptop to take to uni/on the train etc. (I have a desktop which I use for most work but sometimes you gotta be portable) Battery life and build quality are top priority for me - it doesn't need to be a powerhouse (most intensive thing I'll be doing on it is probably photo editing) as long as it is not a pain to use on a daily basis and doesn't sound like a jet engine/melt my lap. My chromebook has a 14" screen which I really like, but I know it's not that common, so I think I'd be looking for a 15" screen with the smallest bezel possible as I want as much screen as I can get but still be able to sling it in a backpack nice and easily. If anyone has a laptop they like they bought a few years ago that they think might be cheap to pick up now, or just has any laptops they think are worth looking out for let me know! I was also wondering if getting an old macbook pro might be a good shout, as they are built pretty well and have good battery life but I don't know if anyone has any experience with how well they work after quite a few years or if they are still far too expensive. Cheers!
