@CuriousPlaces: my best advise would be to purchase a new device and leave the current one as evidence for police to investigate, unused and not connected to the net. And she should stop using M$ accounts as well as their software. VPNs are not a solution, they only change the location where the lady appears on the web, and does not protect her clearly already compromised PC from outside access.

I agree that law enforcement should clearly get involved as his actions require attention by a Court of Law,

She needs to save every message. I’d have her contact law enforcement. I’m the US this would be covered under the Computer Fraud and Abuse act. Most states have their own as Federally they can only be prosecuted if it cross state lines or a certain dollar amount.

Best advice I’d give. Change to all new accounts with new passwords. Reformat the computer and reinstall Windows, in case he put software on it. Another thing is to see if she can figure out when the harassment is coming, like a time. Because if he’s on company time , she could contact the employer and get his ass fired. Because breaking the law on company time could make them liable.

I work at an independent repair shop and a woman came in yesterday with a HP Probook 445 saying she had a "Jerry Spring esq" security problem. She than described to me a situation where an ex husband who 'works in IT' has been stalking her digitally. It seems he had access to most of her accounts before they separated and has been abusing that power to harass her. She covered her webcam because the ex was texting her a descriptions of what she was wearing. She has moved, changed isp and purchased a new router. One issue I identified was that she was signed into a Microsoft live account he has access to. Thus far my recommendation to her is to create a new email account to than create a new live account, and than change the email associated with her other accounts. Once she has changed the email to than changed the password and the security questions (and change those questions to something she knows he doesn't or just use them as passwords themselves). Than to turn on 2 step verification on all accounts. Some research seems to indicate that her changing the name of her access point at home and then changing the password before signing back in with her devices might help. Would using a VPN in the future help her as well? This problem is out of my depth and was wondering if there were any other steps she could take to block this person from continually messing with her.

    Hi,

I've change my motherboard from a Asrock B450 Gaming-ITX/AC to the ASUS Rog Strix B550-I Gaming (Mainly because the ASROCK motherboard woudn't power down by itself after shutdown)

    Anyway this is my build:
    Ryzen 5 3600
    HyperX FURY Red 16GB 2666
    Samsung EVO Super 970 m.2 1TB
    Gigabyte RTX 2070 WinForce 8GB
Phanteks Enthoo Evolv Shift Air ITX chasis
    be quiet! SFX-L Power 600W
Corsair K95 Platinum RGB Gaming Keyboard

All the parts are tested on my ASROCK motherboard and is working fine.

Now to the issue, when i boot up i get to the Asus ROG splash screen and the message "Press F2 or DEL to enter UEFI BIOS settings", is posted. When i tro to press either key, nothing happends and it doesn't boot into Windows 10, an installation from my former motherboard.
On the Asus motherboard i can see the Boot diode (white) is on, indicating that there is a boot device issue (no shit).
I don't know if the screen is frozen or the keyboard simply isn't working, but when i press CTRL + ALT + DEL, the PC restarts and displays the Splash screen again, also i can turn Num lock on/off etc..

TLDR: I'm unable to boot to the Windows installation on my m.2 disk and unable to enter the BIOS to solve any boot issue.

    What i've tried so far:
A different keyboard (USB, the motherboard doesnt have PS2 ports) Pluging keyboard into any other USB port. Dissasemling the build and reasemble outside chasis with a bare minimum setup (RAM, CPU, GPU) Removing m.2 disk Updating BIOS using the BIOS button and BIOS USB slot Unpluging all USB devices Resetting BIOS (jumper method) Shuting down PC and Removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes Anything i might be missing?. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

No, I don't have another computer or router unfortunately. I have added a switch in between though. PC to Switch = 1000mbps. But actual speeds are limited to 100mbps.

I'm currently crimping the ends of the leftover of that Cat6 I have, and will see if I can run that in-house between the rooms to test. Sadly not really in a position to move PC around (WFH, I need the PC online :P). I'm guessing I'll have to replace the Cat6 cable, but hope to find other solutions as removing the current and re-running it again will cost my quite a bit of time and money.

T568B. I tried A as well to see if that somehow made a difference (did not). Both ends are the same yes. I can confirm this with the tester I use as well, as it sends a signal through each wire in the cable. So it shows "Sending signal 1" and at the other end "receiving signal 1". That is repeated through all 8 wires (so easy to spot if a wire a connector is not crimped properly, or if the ends are mismatched (in which case it could be something like, "sending signal 1" and at the other end "receiving signal 4".

I spilled sprite on my pc, and instantly it shut off. I unplugged everything and take it apart fast and gently. Then I started blow drying it with warm air. Any tips or advice for what I can do to ensure everything works. I know there is a chance it’s done for but I can at least try [Edit] thank you so much everyone for the advice and tips. I did everything I could have done and with your help my pc is up and running again thank you so much!

I have a couple basic questions that have stumped me recently. Recently my memory usage seems to be too high for whats running (even if I restart my entire system). I have ~32 Gb of ram installed but (on startup) around 40% is used, just steam and my virus protection are running. Any reason why so much of my memory is being eaten? I can't even find what is eating all of it on Resource monitor. In addition my task manger shows my ram speed as 1333MHz, but my ram is advertised as 2666MHz (do I need to enable XMP, or is this just something task manger gets wrong).

    Thank you for your responses!

    Hello everybody,
So, today I was upgrading a dell 3043 aio. I installed 8gb of ddr3l ram, and swapped out the 500gb hdd for a 250gb
Samsung 860 evo ssd. It booted up fine. But, I cant restart it, just ends up on a black screen; and it does not wake from sleep.
I have tried disabling fast boot, and making sure AHCI is enabled. I also swapped back over to the original hdd, but now I have
same problem with it as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I had so far no issue with my current PSU an EVGA G2 1300w, i clean it out regularly and happy that it comes with an extra CPU
8pin cable as i am able to run two 8pin CPU cables from the PSU and planning to build a New System with a 10700k and the new MB has a 8+4 CPU header

main question i dont feel the need to get a New PSU when the current one is a Gold Unit and never will exceed 85% power usage with the new system i hope, i am waiting for the new AMD card
i always see build with new PSU's and i always like to reuse anything to save a buck or two and get that better part i want, is there any cons on not getting a new PSU im just happy when i got the PSU in 2014 because i was in a pinch to get my system up and running with an r9 295x2 that needed a high amp 12v rail for the GPU alone and this PSU is really future proof providing two 8pin CPU headers on the PSU

Thanks a lot really most people would just give me a bs answer, tell me something else, or just not know what they are talking about; but I appreciate the time and research you put in to helping out and again thanks for your input and all your effort I'll definitely keep looking into my options and do some digging in my router.  I totally get what your saying about "what about what it doesn't get" too and I agree with what you said and whether my equipment is stopping the attacks or not either way it's nice just to explore what you can get with all the options out there from simple security software to business class server equipment.  I mean ever since I was a kid I was the one who knew the most about it all and most of the stuff I know I've just learned over the years doing research, watching videos, and reading about it, and just playing with my own equipment; it's a valuable skill to have.  Also I appreciate you actually being straightforward and knowledgeable or at least doing you research before telling me something and not just arguing.
