  1. ill do that and im using a 9900k too so its not my cpu
  2. i keep getting random frame dips about every 4 seconds while watching hulu on google chrome and gaming using directx9 anyone else experiencing this issue???
  3. So for starters my motherboard is an ASUS Z9PA-D8 with two intel xeon e5-2670 cpus installed, and all 8 ram slots populated with 8gb dimms. I was using a gtx 980 ti as my main gpu and it worked just fine, no issues at all, but I decided to upgrade since the 20 series from nvidia has proven to be a good generation of cards my 2070 arrived today and i was super excited to put it in and benchmark it, i installed my new card, pressed the power button and BOOM post screen with the asus logo... but the system is unresponsive, pressing delete doesnt get me to the bios and nothing else happens. when i popped a spare 1050ti i have laying around in everything fires up and boots like normal, status beep followed by full boot sequence with the 2070 installed all that happens is i get the asus post screen and nothing else. and idea what i might be doing wrong??
  4. Actually i do have the resources to flash and re update the bois i think ill try that
  5. Just bought one of these to replace my aging dual xeon x5690 build... I got it on ebay in non working condition for $60 wondering if anyone can think of what the problem might be, with one cpu (e5-2670) vga disabled, and a graphics card in (gtx980ti) i can get video, and get into the bios, but it crashes randomly and freezes in the bios, does this with both cpu sockets, and no matter what ram configuration I use. The chipset heatsink isn't getting warm at all, and the vrms aren't either. every time i try to install the latest bios it gets to 10% then dies completely, wont work with the onboard vga for more that 45 seconds, i've already tried. any help would be appreciated as this was a total steal! <3

Sounds like you should try reinstalling drivers, and if that doesn't work then try taking your computer apart, booting using onboard graphics, running windows update, then reinstalling your graphics card.
  7. Thank You! Appreciate the word of warning, I would be running in AHCI mode and running a regular m.2 ssd.
  8. Actually my 980ti is fully overclocked and pulling the numbers it should (i was honestly surprised by this). As far as sata 2 I have a RAID controller card and an m.2 PCIE card on the way that are going to help me solve both problems
  9. This all started with me planning out a Ryzen 1700 build, I looked at ram prices and parted everything out and I couldn't stomach how much 32 gb of ram was going to cost me (need at least that much for streaming and video editing), so I decided to look into server hardware instead. All parts except the power supply, case, heatsinks and ssd were bought used, all in all ended up being a good budget rig. A cinebench score of 1800 Isn't too bad either. Mainboard - Supermicro x8dtl-if $100 Dual Cpus - Intel Xeon X5690 $185 48gb ECC Ram - $145 GTX 980 ti - $350 Samsung 860 Evo 500gb - $160 Case - $80 Heatsinks - $60 Fans etc. - $40 A hard drive caddy on the front of a build is very important when you're working with a lot of hard drives. Fitting the motherboard was super easy because it used the same holes a standard ATX board There is no native USB 3.0 support OR rear USB ports, so I had to use a pcie card to get USB 3.0 to function Heatsink mounting was a royal pain, and I had to modify both coolers to get them to fit, in the end I think it turned out pretty clean. I also had to mount a small fan to the main chipset heatsink just to be on the safe side as these mainboards were meant to be mounted in a 1U rack space with fans directing air over the entire board and low profile cpu heatsinks. After mounting all fans it doesn't look to bad
  10. Buy a used board on ebay. They go for about $100, and yes I am talking about server parts here. Nothing wrong with pci 2.0 my current rig has a gtx 980 ti in an 8X pcie 2.0 slot and it doesn't run slow at all.
  11. I was mistaken I was talking about a 7700k, however, my dual x5660 motherboard, cpu, and 32 ram COMBINED cost less than just an 8700k
  12. Personally I would invest in one 500gb ssd, and possibly build an old 12 core server with dual xeon x5660 cpus, you can buy them in pairs for $100 and get dual socket motherboards for $100. My current rig with a dual x5660 cpus pulls a 1400 in cinebench, an i7-8700k can only pull about a 1200. Also if you went the route im talking about you could buy 32gb of ddr3 ECC ram at the price of one 8gb stick of ddr4... something to think about
  13. Good to know! I do have slots filled on both sides of the motherboard but i will fill up all 6 slots asap
  14. I have recently benchmarked my new light gaming and editing rig in both Cinebench R15 and Passmark. I get a 1400 in Cinebench which is really fantastic, but I can barely pull a 8100 on the Passmark CPU test whe i should be getting around 11,000. I have two 8gb sticks of ddr3 non ecc ram installed but it passes every ram stress test I can throw at it. My motherboard is a SuperMicro x8dtl-if. Any thoughts on what might be the issue?
