Jenshiye reacted to Gorgon in Aftermarket VRM cooling - Aorus B450M Ryzen 2700
Sorry for necro'ing this thread but I just had the VRM on my Aorus b450m DS3H fail catastrophically. I was running a Compute workload on all cores on a stock 2700x and it did take several months for the VRM to melt down even with no over-clock and a Hyper 212
FYI - to get lm-sensors working under Linux for any Gigabyte (and a lot of others) you will need an updated it87 package for lm-sensors to get the kernel driver working. You can find one that works here so you can monitor the sensors. PM me if you have trouble getting the /etc/sensors.d/ .conf file working

Jenshiye reacted to Emily Young in Where did THESE come from???
Every gaming handheld I’ve ever owned has come from some big Japanese company – But these didn’t. What are they, and can they possibly be any good?

Jenshiye got a reaction from - A - in Gaming on a Linux...
By installing Lubuntu and Midori you can breath new life into old hardware.
There are some nice games on Steam that would probably run on your machine:
Baldur's Gate series Oxygen Not Included Rimworld Left for Dead Borderlands
Make sure to double check the requirements on the store page before getting any of them.
As for myself, I went over to Linux 4 years ago, I have a 5820 @ 4.1GHz, 64 GB of RAM at 2666, M.2 NVME, SSD cache, SSHD RAID, Vega 64
I could easily have fit Windows into that budget but at even $1 I would feel I was paying too much for that bloated mess.
Microsoft has bought a platinum seat at the Linux foundation, GIThub and are incorporating Linux more and more into their products. Even they know Windows is terrible. I think either way in the next 5-10 years people will be using Linux just with a Windows skin.

Jenshiye got a reaction from Krosis in Upgrade advice for my aging core i5 2500k build
As long as cost is not a factor. mid-range, I think you can get more bang for your buck with AMD, however, no point in the OP changing motherboard, that would void the value of going with AMD.

Jenshiye got a reaction from lukart in Which MSI motherboard for AMD?
Word of warning: I am not impressed with MSI build quality, for example, I took my graphics card out of the motherboard and the port came with it. Instead of being soldered in, there was a set of clips holding it in the board. That was a $300+ board.

Jenshiye got a reaction from Origami Cactus in 7 Days to Die + 1x PC + 1x VM + 1x Steam Link
Thanks. I think the router in the loop is a gigabit one and I am using Ethernet. I think the screen scales okay if that is necessary but I hope not as I do want to impress them into getting a PC rather than the next generation of console.

Take the internals out, make a new enclosure for them, and mount them to the back of a regular monitor.

Well ... Nvidia ... I can agree.
AMD? I think they would be more responsible with something like this.
