How do you negotiate with vendors such as AMD/Nvidia etc. to give you sample products to review? On what basis do they let you know things before the general public (on occasion) and how do NDA's work?

Is it hard to get a partnership with a big company (say like Intel) as a beginning web company?

Let me just start by saying I've never been much of a fan of gaming monitors. They've oftentimes in the past been otherwise completely unexceptional monitors with a cool colour scheme and some skin-deep "collaboration" with a pro gamer, which basically amounted to slapping a sticker on the box and giving the aforementioned pro a few bucks for the privilege.

Not the case with this one. No, it's still not an IPS monitor with respect to colour reproduction, but it's also not an eyesore like every other 120Hz or 144Hz monitor I've used before. If you want "dem fast refreshes" and you don't want to wait for something with G-Sync support, this is it, folks.

You would probably need $600-$700 for a full loop for those components.

Get any rads you want, the brand of rad rarely makes a difference. Just look at price, material, FPI and dimensions. You can find more info on rads in the 101 and FAQ stickies.

Also, get any Laing D5 pump. The MCP655 is just a re-brand. All Laing D5 Vario pumps are the same pump with a different sticker on them. Get the cheapest one you can.

I would also have a look at Scythe Gentle Typhoon fans if I were you.

sc1997 reacted to LinusTech in @Linus Power Consumption, and why it is not irrelevant.
This is a good point. Power consumption IS a very important thing, but from a performance enthusiast standpoint (I want more performance) I don't care. If I wanted a power efficient system, I would buy a power efficient SKU. I'm as excited as anyone about Intel's S SKUs that offer pretty good performance with very low power consumption. It's like... being excited about a new Civic hybrid or something because I can save on gas. I'm excited about NUC because of the phenomenal form factors that Intel's power efficiency enables. Awesome stuff!

What I'm not excited about is a Hummer with no extra passenger space, no extra towing capacity, a top speed that's exactly the same as the last one, and slightly better fuel economy. I'M BUYING A HUMMER. If I cared about fuel economy I would choose something else and it's fantastic that those options exist, but that's not what I want for a beastly gaming rig or video editing workstation.

sc1997 reacted to LinusTech in Do you think my man Linus is a bit too harsh on consoles?
Console exclusives are the main benefit, with ease of use being another huge one.

The cold hard truth is that not every gamer is some tech-savvy LTT forum member who is willing to try 4 different voice chat clients to find the one that doesn't sound like butt or give his IP to everyone in his/her contact list.

    Consoles fill that void.

I just have no use for them, that's all.

Probably placebo. Unless you use some EQ on one of them, they should sound exactly the same.
Foobar2000 is good, but it won't make your music sound better. It's good because you can customize it.

That will be completely useless. The audio is already compressed so the only thing that will happen is that the file gets bigger. The audio quality will still be exactly the same.

    For around 400 USD?
Sennheiser HD 600 and some of the Beyerdynamics headphones like the DT990 600ohm/250ohm or the DT880 600ohm/250ohm. There are like a gazzillion different DT880/DT990 though so be careful so you get the right one.

Your the first one in a while on this forum to not immediately convince yourself it's actually better. It's good to look at the world with an objective view and form your own opinions, and not buy into anyone else's based on face value. Pretty smart, actually.

Aint your fault. People who know nothing assume something along the lines of, "Yeah, since it's a $200 soundcard why wouldn't it be good?" Then they recommend it to other people like you who usually just believe it to be better through placebo - you're actually pretty smart to realize there's little to no difference.

HD558 and the Xonar STX have impedance mismatch. That certainly doesn't help either. Sell the Xonar, get a dedicated DAC and amp.

Open headphones usually provide a larger sound stage because there's less reflection of sound off the internals of the headphones. That said, if you prefer closed headphones for more isolation, it isn't a big deal.
AKG, Beyerdynamic, and the Sennheiser's you already mentioned are all good headphones for the money you're willing to spend. The more money you can spend will obviously get you "better" headphones, but just pick a budget you're happy with; you can always upgrade in the future if you want. :)

Hey, I was planning to get an Essence STX because I've seen only good reviews for it.
I now need to know which headphones to get.... Closed vs Open, which to chose? Budget of arround 200+, maybe can strech more (like 350 tops) if it is realy worth it. Now, I don't really care for headsets as I have another mic, so a set of headphones would be nice.
I have seen the 7H, HD555, 595 and 598 but can't find the difference. Any (other) suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

I believe that both Windows 7 and 8 have a 3 or 5 key activation limit per key, and once you go over that limit you have to call up Microsoft.
When you call Microsoft I am not sure if they reset your key or if they just give you a new one altogether. If you haven't installed more than once you are in the clear.
