  1. Sorry I couldn’t really give a budget because idk what laptops go for. Looking for something for a few hundred dollars or less probably.
  2. Hello! I am not typically a laptop person and don’t really know much about the laptop space in terms of what are good brands, features, price, etc. However, I do know components and am an experienced desktop builder. Anyways, I have found myself to be wanting a cheap laptop that can of course satisfy general use (which I already have) and more importantly light gaming (which my current laptop cannot do). I just need it to comfortable run WOW, LOL, and such games on medium settings. I am not wanting amazing performance and want to prioritize something cheap that gets the job done over higher performance. what would be some great used options? I just want to run 1080, 60hz, at least 60fps wow, & LOL. Would of course be nice to get a screen with higher refresh rate or something with an IPS panel that gets bright or helps to negate glare. Thank you!
  3. Yeah bummer about not upgrading the ram. I think swapping a faster ssd would give it some good life.
  4. No I don't even use one of them right now. I will use one in the future but right now not a chance I would use both.
  5. Any point in selling both and getting something for about $1000? Just kind of thought of that idea.
  6. I may do so, but I'm still a little un-decided on which laptop to keep. I really won't be pushing the laptop hard just web browsing, homework, writing papers, office etc...
  7. It was running pretty well on windows 10 and I swapped to Ubuntu and now it just feels really slow and sluggish. I wonder if I can just lookup this laptop and what pads I would need?
  8. Alrighty, maybe I should. Hp laptop just runs so slow and sluggish on Linux. Re-paste as in thermal paste for the cpu? And I'm not familiar with "repad".
  9. Yeah for sure, the 2013-2014 macbook pro's are considered 'the best' and will probably last longer and hold their value better. My issue is that I installed linux on the HP laptop and it just feels so slow and sluggish. I slightly prefer the macbook pro and I know it will hold it's value longer. I just don't want to let 1 laptop sit around let alone 2 and then lose potentially more money by waiting to sell. And I want someone to be able to get some use out of one of them.
  10. So as the title states I have 2 laptops and I'm not really sure which one I should sell and which one I should keep. My wife has a new ipad that she uses and my old desktop PC, while I have a new desktop PC that I pretty strictly use. Laptops only get use in very certain situations and stuff like traveling. So even as is we probably don't even need 2 laptops but in the future I will have some college classes in person that I will probably need a laptop for. Right now my thought process is to sell the HP laptop and then upgrade the Macbook Ram & storage and then put linux on it and call it a day. I'm just not sure what I want to do and was hoping for some good insight from fellow LTT members. The laptops: Apple Macbook Pro Mid 2014 (3GHZ Core I7, 16gb 1600 MHZ DDR3, 256GB SSD) Seems to go for about $500-$600 on Ebay HP Spectre X360 2017 (2.7GHz I7-7500U, 16GB ram, 512GB SSD) Goes for about $500-$600 on Ebay as well.
  11. Just looking for suggestions for a 24” 1080x1920 monitor to use as a second vertical monitor. Looking for something in the $100 range hopefully IPS panel and vesa mount.
  12. Looking for advice here. So I bought the Dell S2716DG monitor which is a 144hz 1440p TN 1ms Gsync monitor and I had the first one for about 6 months or so and then it had issues and had to get a replacement. The process was fairly simple and they sent me a 2nd one but then another 6-8 months later and it had issues. They then send me a 3rd replacement and the next day it had a white screen of death and wasn't working. Now I'm waiting on a 4th replacement that they said it won't be in stock and ship for a few weeks. So now I'm wondering if I should Just out right buy this monitor: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TD94TQF/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1#customerReviews And then try and sell mine on craigslist as new in the box when It arrives since it has warranty etc... Or should I just wait until this 4th one gets here and hope it's solid? I don't know if I'm just having bad luck or what.
  13. Old Monitor is the S2716DG haha Dell was offering me either as a replacement because the S2716DG had an issue but they had it back stock. Decided to stay with current monitor.
  14. Would I just get something like this then? 100ft https://mainframecustom.com/shop/cable-sleeving/teleios-fusion-black-silver-25ft/ ? and then I need a heat gun right?
  15. Good to know, I may go with the freesync option but I'm still not 100% sure. Apparently the backlight bleed is bad on the freesync version.
  16. I contacted cablemod...unfortunately they don't have a set for my PSU that is compatible! I wouldn't mind sleeving myself but it looks difficult to take the wire pin out with staples but I mean doesn't look difficult just time consuming. I'm assuming I would just re-sleeve the stock cables that came with PSU?
  17. I just want to leave the option open because I'm either going 3060/3070 or getting AMD if they come out with something solid and affordable. How can I check if it's "Gsync compatible?" I really haven't even ever used gsync on my gsnyc monitor and only tried it once and it had issues but I didn't notice a difference anyways. Should I just go with the freesnyc monitor since it's newer and supposedly "higher quality" ?
  18. My Dell S2716DG is getting replaced because I had issues with it and dell is giving me the option of waiting for the same monitor (since its back stock) or to get the S2719DGF (free sync) option instead and it ships right away. I can wait for either monitor so time is not an issue but I'm just wondering what to go with. I heard the S2719DGF is a newer model and is "better" it can also be overclocked to 155hz although I doubt it would make any difference but I like the idea of flexibility to get an AMD GPU. Other than that I'm not sure the differences or reasons to go with one over the other. Any thoughts?
  19. Got it built today! just wanted to say thank you for all the help! Only issue that needs to be fixed is that the cable extensions I bought with the cables that came with PSU are way too long and I just want to get all black modular cables that look good so I have more space to cable manage. Any suggestions?
  20. Nothing important haha... 21. Forgot even what I typed haha it was an in-store deal only... I won't be overclocking and so should be fine then. My plan is to wait and get a 3060 and just use 1070ti until then.
  22. Ok, does this board have 4? and would it be worth a $30 jump? I can't see where it would say and I'm new to this so having a hard time. https://www.newegg.com/asus-rog-strix-b550-i-gaming/p/N82E16813119322?Item=N82E16813119322&nm_mc=AFC-RAN-COM&cm_mmc=AFC-RAN-COM&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_source=afc-PCPartPicker&AFFID=2558510&AFFNAME=PCPartPicker&ACRID=1&ASID=https%3a%2f%2fpcpartpicker.com%2fproduct%2fXBH8TW%2fasus-rog-strix-b550-i-gaming-mini-itx-am4-motherboard-rog-strix-b550-i-gaming&ranMID=44583&ranEAID=2558510&ranSiteID=8BacdVP0GFs-RCtWKDowNIhpp6YzYgg7wg I was just worried being such a small and tight space it would have cooling issues. Doesn't look as tight as I thought after watching a similar build. He did a water cooler for the cpu which didn't seem a bad route either. NZXT one.
  23. I think I will go for the higher board then, is this one solid then? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089VRZ6JX?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1 As far as the fans I really don't want an RGB kit is there anything else I can go with? Also I'm really concerned because someone brought up it having heating/cooling issues anyway to know or see other builds and see if that could be an issue? UPDATED LIST: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Jcdanible/saved/FKtW4D Thanks!
  24. I'm actually thinking about going this board: https://www.newegg.com/asrock-b550m-itx-ac/p/N82E16813157954?Item=N82E16813157954 Because It's quite a bit cheaper and I don't need the extra two USB on the front. The super flower also has a 10 year warranty so I guess it doesn't matter too much! Ok, so it should be fine good to know! I'm hoping to just keep stock cooler and not overclock anything. With the fans are you suggesting getting this as the splitter? https://www.amazon.com/JBtek-Black-Sleeved-Splitter-Converter/dp/B01EF9OI0O/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=pwm+fan+splitter&qid=1599504397&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011&rnid=2470954011&rps=1&sr=8-3 Thank you!
  25. I think I would go with the Asrock just to save money but is there any reason to spend the $30 more? Ok, I won't be needing anything more I feel that the build I made is more than enough and will last many years. I was asking advice about PSU earlier to a discord of PC users and I've seen people suggesting this PSU: I'm just getting confused because there are corisar/nzxt/super flower but IDK what I should pick lol! https://www.newegg.com/super-flower-leadex-iii-sf-850f14hg-850w/p/1HU-024C-00005?Item=9SIAMNPAY43503 I understand, My biggest worry right now is that a 3070 or future 3060 won't fit in the case or MOBO, is there anyway to know? It says the 1070ti will fit fine I would assume the 3070/3060 would as well.
