    Thanks. I wasn't certain.
I'm going with a custom water cooling system with an EK Water Block. Heat isn't the issue, noise is. I can get the temps down in the 50s during heavy gaming workloads, but that requires a very aggressive and noisy fan curve--loud enough I can hear it while wearing headphones.
I doubt it will be an issue. The only time it gets that hot is when I'm playing something like CP 2077 with ray tracing on and using the stock fan curve.

I don't get the hate either. Sure, some people really overdo it and it ends up looking crappy. But I don't mind some subtle lighting for the rig that I paid some serious money for.

And @Bananasplit_00 I don't really think that the "RGB tax" is as noticeable as you make it out to be. The components themselves are so expencive, a few bucks more for lights that you may or may not use don't really end up making a difference. Besides, there usually are a lot of RGB-free alternatives, so just get them instead.

It all ends up comming down to personal preference I think, but why some people can get so worked up about it I don't understand either. But that's the internet for you I guess

He said he's doing a course in game development. Compiling code can be parallelized for faster processing. Game development also means making 3D models, and probably other things that I probably don't fully understand because that process never really interested me. I do know that all of those benefit from multi-core CPUs far more than just gaming. I also am a proponent of a minimum of six cores for serious gaming machines because it frees up overhead for games to monopolize whatever cores are needed without having to shut down other programs.

Just my 2 cents, but if you're using this for gaming, the 1700 or 1700x won't really provide much in the way of benefit over the 1600/1600x. Game developers don't often code for more than four cores. Six cores gives you a little leeway so that the operating system can run on the other two cores while the games monopolize the other four. 8 cores only really provides a benefit if you're doing content creation or something along those lines, or at least, that's the way I've understood it.

i only noticed this with the AMD Ryzen spire cooler. i was converting videos and temps hit 67-70c. so i took out my old zalman cpns 9900led. now my temps don't get any higher than 59c. i've read some review, where people will tolerate high temps for quietness. im the total opposite.
