  1. I have done it! I went with Herman’s. I have ordered the parts and now I play the waiting game :3
  2. Build me a PC to run games at 4K. I game all the time, but my computer needs a serious upgrade. Build price around $1500 (I’m in California) but slightly higher or lower is not a big deal. Please also keep future upgrades in mind. I have peripherals and a monitor. In the future I will move to multiple monitors. Oh oh and yes I play intensive games like gta v, the Witcher 3, etc.
  3. So here are the pcpartpicker links for the upgrades. A little busier than I thought I’d be today and don’t have time to type it all out. AMD: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BCHr7W Intel: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Scapechild/saved/Q8B3FT plz note the final price on these are a bit higher than it would actually be as I would go through Nvidia for the graphics card and save myself a lot. let me know what you think about where I’m looking to go and where my starts are at and what might be better options and your thoughts and opinions on each side of the house.
  4. First off this may be quite long with no TL:DR. So if you don’t wish to read all the way through, well... I don’t blame you. Haha. Anyway, here goes. So I am currently planning out my road to computer godhood. As such I have come up with various lists for different price points as well as different options to explore. I would like all you tech lovers like myself who have more experience to give me recommendations and criticize my choices and what not to help me out. Note: I am wanted an extremely strong PC that can run 4K at 60fps minimum on very intensive games. (Seems like tomb raider is one of the best for checking from the videos I’ve been watching, but I also play like Witcher 3 and the likes) I will also be using this computer for game creation which will also meet handling 3D modeling, intensive rendering, etc. and because I just cannot have enough, I plan to be streaming what I play... or at least need that option. So so to begin I want to decide between going the intel route or the threadripper route. I have done a lot of research and if I’m going AMD side of things, I want to go threadripper. Here are my “budget” builds for each. intel: 1: intel i5-8400 2.6GHz 6core processor 2: be quiet! - Pure Rock Slim 35.1 CFM CPU Cooler 3: Gigabyte - Z370P D3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard 4: GeIL - EVO POTENZA 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory 5: Seagate - FireCuda 1TB 2.5" 5400RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive 6: NZXT - S340 Elite (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case 7: EVGA - BT 450W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply 8: Nvidia Gtx 1060 (probably straight from Nvidia since prices are ridiculous elsewhere 9: Cougar - AttackX3-4IS (MX Brown) Wired Gaming Keyboard Final price: 894.64 (I have a great monitor and mouse already) AMD: 1: AMD - Threadripper 1900X 3.8GHz 8-Core Processor 2: Cooler Master - MasterLiquid Lite 240 66.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler 3: Asus - PRIME X399-A EATX TR4 Motherboard 4: G.Skill - NT Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory 5: Samsung - 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive 6: Seagate - FireCuda 1TB 2.5" 5400RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive 7: MSI - GeForce GTX 1070 Ti 8GB Video Card 8: Lian-Li - PC-O11 WX ATX Full Tower Case 9: SeaSonic - 520W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply 10: Cougar - AttackX3-4IS (MX Brown) Wired Gaming Keyboard Final Price: 1,763.43 now a couple things. 1. I used PC part picker to ensure everything I chose was compatible and if I can find any of the parts for cheaper than the listing (like I used the prices for buying straight from Nvidia on the gpus) then obviously I’d take that route and save a little. 2. I understand it’s a major price difference between the two starting builds. Just as it’s about the same for the final builds. I’m doing this on my phone so final builds will be added later for you guys to see. I am ok with the price difference depending on what you guys say/advise. It will just take me longer as I’m not in a position to be able to save a lot right now. 3. Have fun tearing down my build
  5. I'm not sure if I have SODIMM or DIMM. (Probably SODIMM since it is a laptop) and won't know until I actually open it up. That being said I really appreciate all the help. I'll drop all the specs once I have everything ready. Also out of curiosity, if it was regular DIMM, would it work then? because I know the CPU is compatible (since I'm taking it straight from the laptop that's working with the RAM) just no real answers on whether the motherboard could potentially run DDR3L. I know that I should just buckle down and get the DDR4 since I would be doing it later, and I will be. I am just really curious now if it would work. I love technology too much to not wonder about this. Thanks again for all the help guys!
  6. Alright, thank you! I knew this was the place to go for help.
  7. So I am planning my first ever computer build. I have done a ton of research and am almost ready to begin buying the pieces that I need for it. I do have a gaming laptop from MSI right now, however it got ran over (please don't ask the story it makes me sad every time) and while it works with an external monitor I really want to upgrade as well as move over to desktop. That being said I have a question that I can't find anything specific on and since I watch a ton of LinusTechTips, I figured this would be a great place to find super knowledgeable people to ask. So I am trying to find out if the Gigabyte - Z370P D3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard can actually support DDR3L RAM. now I know its supposed to be DDR4 and I know that I "should" use DDR4 and I completely plan to down the line. However, I am trying to save as much as I can to get this project rolling and get the computer going so I can play my games as well as create content, (streaming, videos, game creation, etc.) my plan already is to rip the CPU from my laptop and use that (I have found it is compatible for sure so no worries there) but like I said, I can't find anything on whether I can use this DDR3L RAM in the motherboard. My laptop has 16GB of it, and honestly that's more than I was originally planning on placing of DDR4 at start. So I would like to use this at the beginning IF POSSIBLE. Plz note that it would not be a final build in any since, as I plan to upgrade over time almost everything about the build I'm putting together. Just trying to save some time and money at the start.
