  1. Thank you for your input, the more I read reviews the more that seems to be the case.
  2. Looking to replace my 27 inch 1440p 144hz Acer with another 27in 1440p monitor 144+ Hz with something that has decent HDR and deeper blacks than what my old TN panel can offer below $300. The AOC Q27G3XMN seems to fit the bill but haven't been able to find a place that has one in stock. The Sceptre c275b-qwn168w looks to be the next closest thing in the price range. There's also the Dell G2724D but HDR seems a little poor. Anyone have a recommendation?
  3. The concern was whether or not the x4 slot would be able to provide enough power to the card as it's bus powered. Pcie x4 specs show max power output of 25 watts and the card requires 50 watts.
  4. Decided to try out the a380 using the x4 slot and somehow (despite Pcie specs saying otherwise) it works. Power draw maxes out at about 45 watts. The card is definitely crippled in this config, but since it will be used for transcoding and not gaming I'm not worried about it. I did run time spy just to see what the numbers would look like and it got a graphics score of 3196. That's with the a380 in a x4 gen 3 slot and no rebar. This puts it more in line with the a310 which has an average score of 3133 according to 3dmark. Thought I would share this info in case someone else finds themselves in a similar albeit niche situation.
  5. I have some, not a lot at the moment. It's mostly a future proofing thing and to kill two birds with one stone. If I recall correctly, the 630 might support tone mapping on Linux, but not Windows. The information available from Plex says Intel driver's don't support tone mapping on 630, has to be 730 or newer.
  6. I've definitely considered it, but figured for the price difference and lack of reviews for the Sparkle card other than someone reporting that the fan is really loud I would see if the a380 is doable.
  7. The issue is the UHD 630 doesn't support AV1 or tone mapping (Plex has released a pre beta version of Plex for Windows with tone mapping support for Intel, but it's limited to UHD 730, Xe or arc). So I figured I'd just throw in an arc.
  8. I'm working on a Plex project with a Dell Optiplex 5080 and looking for a graphics card, the a380 seems to fit the bill. Since it's a SFF Optiplex and Dell decided to put the x16 slot below the x4 slot and the smallest a380 I can find is a dual slot (only populates one bracket but the fans take up an extra "slot") there isn't much room between the x16 slot and the power supply. I'm thinking of it doesn't fit then I might try the open ended x4 slot. Does anyone know if the x4 slot can supply enough power to the card? It's the ASRock a380 LP that's bus powered. Worse case scenario I can use a riser cable, but want to avoid it if possible.
  9. If you don't mind my asking, how did you get your memory running at 3800 C14? I see you have them at 1.6v. Did you increase soc voltage and fclk to 1900mhz?
  10. Yes, been running at those speeds nice I got the memory back in 2021 and couldn't get XMP to work. I haven't had any issues. If I lower the voltage I start to get infrequent crashes. Thank you and everyone else for your input. I'll give that a try and see what happens. If I don't see meaningful gains I'll probably just set the soc voltage back to default and keep running at 3600mhz.
  11. I've had two 16gb kits of Patriot Viper Steel (PVS416G413C9K) for two years now and can't get them to run XMP. They are rated at 4133mhz with XMP, but I've only been able to get them to 3600mhz with good timings 14-14-14-14-34 with fclk at 1800mhz at 1.42 volts. Anything past 3600mhz will not post, even with looser timings at 1.45v. I originally thought my old 5600x wasn't up to the task, but I've since upgraded to a 5800x3d and still not having luck. Any ideas?
  12. Thank you to everyone who shared their input. I'm thinking I might keep the 4070 and possibly look into putting the extra $180-$200 towards a 5800X3d.
  13. I'm still within the return period, so I would just exchange the 4070 and pay the difference. You make a good point about ray tracing, I would definitely want to look into that further.
  14. I recently decided to pull the trigger on a 4070 to replace my 2070. It's definitely an upgrade from the old card (especially when using ray tracing) but I wonder if the 7900 XT is a better value in the long run. It's $180 more but it comes with Starfield for free, so that's something. I have a 144hz 1440p monitor and don't really want to upgrade my 650 watt power supply or Ryzen 5 5600x. I'm curious what others think?
  15. Found a fix. Had to install Intel rapid storage driver..... Thanks for the help all!
