I just move my system from a full ATX case to the Node 202 to make it more portable for traveling. The CPU I have is i7-9700K. Everything worked fine on the old set up as it had a big cooler. After finishing putting everything together, I used afterburner to check the temp, everything still looks normal (CPU and GPU are both around 40 when idling or under trivial tasks), but as soon as it start Kombustor or playing game, the CPU starts to raise to 100 C after 20 minutes. First I thought there was something wrong with the thermal paste, so I took the cooler off and reapplied the paste, but it didn't help.
I'm using Noctua NH-L9i, I even replaced the stock fan with a thicker 100 mm Noctua brown fan. The thermal paste that I use is also the one that comes in the box with the cooler. One thing that I noticed with the cooler is that it didntt have the protective plastic on the heatsink surface when I opened the box, the surface also has some sort of concentric texture instead of smooth like the old cooler that I have.
Before I applied the paste, I wiped both the CPU and the heatsink with Noctua CPU wipe. When I took off the cooler to repaste, it looked pretty good to me, the compound covered the entire surface of the CPU.
An interesting thing is that even though the CPU is running crazily hot, it doesn't seem to throttle too much. The core's clock speed drops from 4.9 to 4.6 and my fps drops about 10-15%.
The GPU still runs comfortably at 70C consistently.
Please tell me someone knows what the issue is? At this point I'm just too scared to play games again.
Thanks
