  1. The sticks are DDR2 yes. Don't think it's worth trying to recycle the sticks into older platform though. Originally tried finding replacement board assuming that was the problem and it's a pain and not as cheap as you'd think. Right now leaning towards slapping together: AMD Ryzen 3 2200G 3.5 GHz Quad-Core Processor Asus PRIME B450M-A/CSM Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard And some cheap ram.... Roughly 250 bucks CDN and more than enough to browse the web and multi task a bit I would think.
  2. I'm sure these are thrown out there all the time, but a cursory search had not as many relevant responses as anticipated. My uncle has some parts thrown together from upgrading his son's PC's (I did it of course). I tried to throw in my old LGA 775 mobo/cpu/mem but it's unstable. Keeps freezing randomly. So not worth the hassle. (I know mem is good for sure) In any case, all he really does is browse the web, so I haven't really used AMD before almost ever, but I'm guessing that's the way to go for a really budget basic combo. Open to suggestions though! Thanks everyone.
  3. I've built 2 nearly identical systems this week. One for me and one for a friend. We both have 960 Pro's. His runs the Samsung Magician software in about 20 seconds. Mine takes 2:20. Anyone else with a 960 feel like a quick check for reference or can shed some light?
  4. Thanks everyone. I"m familiar with the essentials of the differences, but as always, out of curiosity, I'd love to see Linus confirm with hard data! 8) There is probably a grand total of 4 people that feel the same way though. Thanks again!
  5. Wondering if he's done any videos touching on this. I'd love to see 2 things. Eco/Balanced/Performance: 1) Performance Benchmark 2) Energy Costs
  6. New system build: ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-H i7 8700K 2x8 GB Corsair DDR4 3000 - RGB Corsair RM750 PSU GTX 960 EVGA Samsung 960 PRO Seems to have been running OK but just had it hang on me randomly I just happened to notice while playing with my daughter that it happened and that the QLED lights were on in the top right of the MOBO. Orange and Red... corresponds to DDR and CPU respectively. The light stays on to indicate likely source of problem. So far only happens trying to wake up from sleep mode. But I've only had it working for a few days at most here, and not really tested thoroughly. Ran a couple of games and novabench a few times. My BIOS has been updated to latest. All drivers from Asus site are installed.
  7. Thanks I never really used embedded option... mainly because i used to use memtest to have something outside of windows environment. I was just wondering if there was any new go to programs out there really. It's been awhile. 8)
  8. I'm assuming people still run memory tests after new builds? Any new go to's these days? Or are we still looking at Memtest 86+, etc?
  9. I upgraded my system recently... trickled my old system to the wife... wife's to her mother. Fresh installs across the board.. Everything works perfectly post install with default windows drivers. Only thing I bothered to manually install was GPU drivers. Is it still necessary these days to install motherboard drivers from their site? What do you guys think?
  10. Thanks guys it did come with 2 standoffs and 2 screws in a bag, but the manual showed removing a screw that was already on the board (not the case) and nothing at all about a standoff installation. http://dlcdnet.asus.com/.../E13354_ROG_STRIX_Z370-H... Manage Luckily it seems to be ok.. performing as expected using samsungs own performance test. i unscrewed it and put the standoff in just to do it right. Hopefully it's all good.
  11. Hi, can you tell me if I need to use the m.2 standoff on my Z370-H to install a M.2 Samsung 960 Pro? I wasn't even sure how to install one until I watched a video and it didn't mention anything about standoffs.
