Can anyone recommend me what CPU to buy that is good for not just today but will serve me well if i upgrade my GPU sometime down the line, while being budget friendly. I'm looking at the ryzen 7700 or the 7800x3d as both are very efficient (I've got a 550w psu) but cant decide for sure.

I believe it is not worth to spend the Greens on gaming only
  17. Do we really need to spend $2K - $5K only to make a gaming oriented computer or consoles with nowadays very flashy price to performance ratios are a good (or even better) options?

So I use my main rig for anything but gaming (I game some but not much because of life). With that said my Tinker Box was budget oriented and I overpaid on it because of the inflation. With that said people will build the best gaming PC they can within their budget. I spent $800 alone last May upgrading my main PC to a 7700k, a 1070, and cpu cooling because building PCs is fun for me. If prices come down and you want a decent gaming PC, get a Ryzen 5 (or Intel i5) and something like a 1060-70 or a RX 580 or a Vega 56. My first verison of my rig was valued at $1100 and my current sits around $1700 (before inflation, my rig now is worth over $2000). With that said I paid for it with my own money and it works great for me and my IT degree I am going for.

With that said people will spend money because its fun and they may want to game better. When I wasn't busy 2 years ago when I first built my PC, I would spend hours on end tinkering with my PC. When I was younger I did the same thing with my hand me downs too. With that said my main rig I don't tinker with anymore because I need it to be stable (mainly for school) and thats why I have a tinker box because if something happens I know my main PC works. In the future that tinker box will probaly get water cooling because that looks fun.
