Recently received a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO headphones and had a couple queries. With them being high impedance (250 Ohm) I was under the impression that an external AMP would be required however while doing some research I've discovered tons and tons of conflicting opinions / pieces of advice. Some have recommended sticking with onboard, some recommended an AMP / DAC combo while some recommended that the power supplied by a Focusrite Scarlett Solo (I'll touch on this more in a moment) will be more than sufficient. The reason I mention the solo is that I am a musician (Would use the XLR & Instrument Jacks of an interface) and I was looking to purchase one alongside a Shure SM58. Im in the UK with a budget of around £100, posting this just for a bit of guidance on either Interface recommendations (With sufficient power and a DAC to 'Open up' the soundstage of the open backed DT990s,) Amp recommendations, or a recommendation of a completely different product im yet to discover. Thanks in advance for any help, happy to provide any further details if need be.

I got it october last year so it should (in theory) be supported. Part of the issue is that we couldn't find the instructions but when I looked online, the standoffs used in the instructions were different to the ones we had. I previously had it mounted on an "ASUS A68HM-K" with an AMD A8 7600.

If you dont have a 1st or 2nd gen CPU to hand then you are most likely going to need to update the BIOS. A lot of the MSI boards have a "Flash BIOS Button" (This is what I used to update the bios as I didnt have an old CPU to use.) This video shows the process, it's pretty simple, even for a novice like me.

Thanks for all the help everyone! I've now got my Ryzen 3600 running on my MSI B450 Gaming Plus w/ 16gb of Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM (3000MHz) and it's wonderful. I had to update the BIOS but it was really quick and simple. The only issue I had was with my cooler (Cooler Master Hyper 212X) - Didn't have the right standoffs, couldnt mount it. Had some issues mounting the stock cooler too... got it all sorted now though! Thank you all for your help, I really do appreciate it!

I think whoever you bought the board from (In my case MSI) offer to flash it for you if you send them the board but I believe AMD also send out free rental CPUs for you to use so you can flash the BIOS.

Ok. Thanks everyone, I'll post an update in a few days when everything is up and running

Any chance I could ask, how was your experience? Did you have to flash the BIOS etc?
-
alright cool, I was just really worried that i would end up killing something. appreciate it.

Hello all, Sorry if this post is just a waste of time, I just want to make sure i'm not going to break something. I have ordered an MSI B450 Gaming Plus MOBO to go with a Ryzen 3600 CPU (Both from amazon at the same time). I am aware of the fact that there are some issues regarding BIOS versions on B450 boards and 3rd Gen Ryzen. I'm a novice to PC hardware and I wanted to ask a question on this forum as i'm not gonna lie, I'm terrified of breaking something. If I go ahead, take everything out of the box and install it all only to find that the BIOS is outdated and wont work, am I at risk of breaking something? I know that the MSI motherboard I have chosen supports USB BIOS Flashing however, I don't want to flash it if I don't have to. Any advice on this topic would be extremely helpful, If you need any more info about the matter then don't hesitate to ask Thanks!

Really do appreciate the help guys. I think I am gonna take the plunge and opt for a better PSU just incase I do upgrade in the future. With regard to installing all these new parts, is it as simple as just swapping everything out and pressing play or do I need to do other stuff. Also, Is it possible to move windows from one drive to another or should I just re-install it. I've only got 1 drive atm (WD Blue 1TB HDD) and im gonna be buying a 240GB SSD when I upgrade. I'm assuming ill just have to re-install windows (I've done this before in the past, it's not an issue for me.) Thanks again for all the help

CPU: AMD A8 7600 GPU: GTX 1060 6GB RAM: 16GB DDR3 HyperX (Unsure of speed unfortunately, think it might be 1866MHz) MOBO: Asus A68HM-K CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Game at 1080p 75Hz (Might increase in the future to 144Hz)

It's a 400W from Cyberpower (Bought my PC prebuilt, have since upgraded it)
-
Any chance I could ask why you think the 3600 is the better option? (Mostly out of curiosity and the fact that i'd like to learn a bit more)

Hey all! So I'm looking to upgrade my PC. My budget is around £300 - £400 pounds and I primarily use my PC for Gaming with some light productivity work taking place aswell. I'm looking to upgrade to a Ryzen CPU however I am unsure of 2 things. 1) What MOBO I should get - I've been told some brands / makes should be avoided but I would like some help choosing if possible 2) What Ryzen CPU I should get. - I do not know if I should go for the R5 3600 or the R5 2600 / R5 2600X or even a R7 2700... Again, I have been told the jump from the 2000 series to the 3000 series is huge and I was wondering which would be best for me. I'm probably gonna end up getting Corsair 2x8GB 3000mhz kit for my RAM and I will be able to upgrade my PSU from my current 400W if need be. Thanks in advance
