  1. I've priced up two identical builds one from a UK retailer and one from NCIX Canada, even with import delivery and fees, the one from Canada is usually about £600 cheaper than if I'd bought it from the UK.
  2. Please do not stop this kind of content. It's pretty much like Facebook forcing me to go download the messenger app because they're removing the messenging feature from their standalone tab (ok yes I know the negative connotations behind the word forcing, not being forced to do anything). I don't want to HAVE to go elsewhere because linustech doesn't do phone reviews, I prefer this style of video, hell I even prefer linus' voice and enthusiasm compared to most of the other tech reviewers. It's quick, concise, balanced and accurate all traits associated to good Journalism, which this undoubtedly is, and I don't want to be forced to make a move to start subbing to other channels. HELL! I'm sad that the unboxings have stopped, I loved those I liked knowing about motherboards and graphics cards and cpus and memory in such depth, it was educational to me, that's how I learnt about PCs, about overclocking about power management. But honestly, the first phone review I ever saw of the HTC One on this channel convinced me to buy the phone I am currently using to type this out, and I have been waiting for this to come out to send the review to my less tech savvyfriend because i know the quality of the review will be exceptional I'll leave it at this, I bought the HTC One because the LTT community suggested it, I swapped out to apollo, swift key and others because the community suggested it, I've bought components and technology because of unboxings and good reviews on here. I've advised so many people to get HTC Ones because it's a good phone but that was only because these videos provide me with such good support to this day. 5 of my friends use HTC Ones under my suggestion and because of videos like these. DONT STOP!
  3. I was looking at benchmarks for Kingston HyperX 3Ks in raid 0 and apparently it doubles the performance in pretty much every field. Either way I would like the extra storage space, I'm looking forward to running games off of an SSD. Ultimately though, I probably don't really need it, I do a little bit of video editing, and some photoshop work but not enough for me to say justify buying an i7 or along them lines. I'll test it and see how it goes, really looking forward to it tbh. Always heard good things. And If I'm honest the amount of system restores I've had to do this year alone is pretty ridiculous. Nvidia graphics drivers do not appear to be my friend on the best of days. Thank you for the advice mind, if I find I have stability issues I may try RAID 1 or just revert simply to having 2 separate drives, as I'm sure the Kingston will be a hell of a lot more reliable and stable than my current refurbed OCZ drive.
  4. Ahh right, well I've only ever had problems with SSDs when I've messed around them or tried to update the firmware, human error more than anything. So a weekly backup should be fine if I'm just keeping OS and Games on there? Cheers for the help!
  5. Evening folks, Ebuyer was selling 120GB Kingston HyperX 3K SSDs at £58 each and with my OCZ Agility 3 Refurb no longer under warranty and OCZ going bust I decided to go for 2 of these little beauties. Honestly though, how stable is Raid 0? From your experiences how often is there a corruption of Data? I plan on running them as an OS drive through my Motherboards (ASRock z77 e-itx) Bios. And I shall be most likely performing backups once a week onto my 1TB SSHD (With 500GB set aside for backups). Is this often enough do you think? All crucial work data etc will be stored on the SSHD as opposed to on the Raid array, which will be mostly OS, general applications and some games. ps. If any Brits are interested in purchasing some they're now at £65 still pretty cheap http://www.ebuyer.com/363436-kingston-120gb-hyperx-3k-2-5inch-ssd-sh103s3-120g
  6. I believe they're the Avexir Core series yellow (: http://www.avexir.com/homepage.html They do a lot of nice custom skews as well, MSI and ASRock themed memory. European brand haven't seen them for sale in the US or NCIX
  7. Cheers for this, this is actually contributing to a couple of ideas on questions I'll be asking some "professional experts" aka lecturers. Completely forgot about things like Hulu! (:
  8. I wanted to keep it concise and to the point I agree it could do with more questions but I'm only using it to give a margin as to how much piracy actually goes on, I know this makes it a little more black and white and gives less room to the grey but my focus won't be on who pirates and how they pirate but why they pirate! (: I agree it is more interesting, however the statistics I receive from this poll will only be going into a single graphic. Focusing on why people turn to piracy is going to be part of my vox pops, I've just got to be delicate with the angle I go down for questions as I don't want to incriminate anyone. This is essentially just value added media that will be going into my TV piece (:
  9. I can show people who voted with what using that poll I just chose not to (: to keep privacy and results a secret really, didn't want to encourage it to go a specific route. But thanks for making that for me anyway, I may use straw poll next time! I'm neither pro nor anti-piracy, at least not for this article anyway, it's more of a localised piece so I'll be mostly speaking to students and lecturers for their views on piracy and trying to give a balanced argument to it and popcorn time. Good journalism and all that! (: Cheers for the help guys, got 15 more replies already! I was going to include this but felt that I'd end up with 3 yes answers and one no answers, leaving it a little too biased on the chart. Interesting thought, I may have to ask some questions similar to that. Why do you think there is a difference between the two? Is one valued more than the other or...?
  10. Hello all, I am a Journalism student currently studying in the UK. I'm working on an article for my convergence portfolio (my courses equivalent to a dissertation), on Popcorn Time and piracy and how great an impact it has or whether it's just common place now days. I have an anonymous poll set up here, and would really appreciate it if you guys could answer it for me. It's a single multiple choice question and literally takes seconds to do, no signups or anything stupid. http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=5328a7afe4b07c9e253b08a5 Any help you guys could give would be greatly appreciated, it's entirely anonymous and won't be going anywhere other than my portfolio and on a DVD for marking. Cheers! Trip
  11. 4Ghz on stock cooler! Holy cow, I'd never risk it! And yeah technically, I mean I could perhaps but I just ran it for 20 minutes and hit 85 degrees, does not make me feel comfortable so I'm back down to 4.2, it's just nice to know how far they'll go! I don't watercool as such, I have a corsair hydro h60 all in one, with a bitfenix spectre pro pwm on it, but that's it, thus my reluctance. But totally agree, H100i for my next build too, might wait until the new new Haswell comes out though, and the memory controller returns to the motherboard! Well said, it's more to do with the silicone lottery and I was proud that it was in the top 5% of cpu's (: either way though you're right, I just wouldn't feel comfortable running prime for 24 hours even at stock tbh aha!
  12. Today I achieved something which I personally thought I'd never be able to manage. 5Ghz on an i5-2500K is something I've always wanted to try but have always been too scared to punch the vcore too, it's currently at 1.4V and I dare not try running Prime95 for longer than 5 minutes at a time but I'm just so proud aha! I know that's ridiculous, what have you guys managed on your little beauties? System Specs i5-2500K @5Ghz 8GB(2x4) Patriot Viper Memory (1866Mhz) Asrock Z77 E-ITX Mobo Corsair TX650W PSU Corsair Hydro H60V2 (With 1xBitfenix Spectre Pro) In a little bitfenix prodigy with all this at the moment, and a lot of fans, it is very loud! My question is though, is overclocking too easy today? I mean to be quite frank I don't know very much in regards to what most of it means, other than increase the multiplier increase the vCore and viola, I know there are limits of course and it's damaging but is it too easy for ams to do, and potentially endanger their rig & hardware???
  13. See the problem here is your definition of "The Media". I know the media in the US for example is more about stating rash opinions and commenting on what clothes Sarah Palin is wearing today (as is much in the Murdoch Media Empire) but in the UK it's run slightly differently, granted we do indeed have our Murdoch run papers, but we also have independent news. The Guardian, The Independent, The New Statesman, The BBC, all of these news companies are for the most part unbiased media organisations. So what does this mean exactly? We'll take your analogy of "The Boss" again, as it seems everyone's drawing on it. What if you work for the Police department, your boss is hitting people? Who do you turn to? The police? You have no one to turn to, because if you did you'd get fired, or in this case sent to prison etc etc. What about going to a committee, well you don't have any evidence your boss is hitting you so yeah, not much they can do about it either. So who's next, well let's speak to the press someone who can get the message out and bring up public debate. In a more civilised world all it comes down to is a balance between "Public Security" and "Press Freedom". In the UK we need a free press, they're often called "The Guardians" or "The voice of the people", and our job (I say our as I am training as a Journalist) as much as it is, is to expose those bosses who hit each other, to bring attention to areas which otherwise the members of the public would miss, we provide transparency for a government that is otherwise constantly fighting to remain opaque. Before Edward Snowden and The Guardian's revelations about any of this, I would suspect very few would have known much if anything about the GCHQ in Britain, the data they were hoarding, or the methods they were using in collaboration with the NSA. And because of this revelation it has many people, like you and I doing our research on the subject and writing about it and discussing it, bringing attention to whether it is necessary or not. All in all Press Freedom is vital to a transparent government, and a transparent government should both keep it's people informed and serve them. Something which our government (speaking as a British Citizen) has not done, and as such reform is and will take place in regards to this. We're just very fortunate to have the ECHR at the end of the day Article 8 The right to a private and family life (including correspondence) and Article 10 The right to expression, which allows us with these freedoms. On a personal note, your arguing style is insulting, it doesn't add anything to the conversation and insulting people isn't going to change their opinions, nor make them believe you're in the right, it just makes you look like a bit of an arse.
  14. As a Brit I can safely say that we're part of the EU and the European Commission of Human Rights, which provides us with certain rights. Namely Article 8 - The right to privacy Article 8 – Right to respect for private and family life 1. Everyone has the right to respect for his private and family life, his home and his correspondence. 2. There shall be no interference by a public authority with the exercise of this right except such as is in accordance with the law and is necessary in a democratic society in the interests of national security, public safety or the economic well-being of the country, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others. Last I checked being curious and going on a wikileaks website to figure out what all the fuss was about isn't terrorism, disappointed in both my own government and the American government for permitting action like this. On a side note Journalism isn't terrorism.
  15. The telegraph featured this video today. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/10513887/HTC-One-2-HTC-M8-exclusive-3D-concept.html#ooid=9yYTBoaToGOPwG_sfA7SCBjPR9Q4Ce-T My mind can't fathom, is there anything more perfect?
