  1. I also heard it was the 990. Either way I obviously plan to upgrade the firmware as soon as Windows 11 is freshly install. Yes, I plan to use it as system + some games drive. I read the Firecuda is a bit faster on sequentials read/write, but I happened to stumble on a couple of multi-purpose benchmark that make them equal or even favour the Samsung... Could it be that it has smarter managing or faster random read/writes?
  2. Guys quick question: Samsung 980 Pro or Seagate Firecuda 530? Same price, same size (1TB for 100€). I come from a Samsung sata SSD, I liked the utilities. By name I'd pick the Samsung but if the Firecuda is hands down just better I'll get that instead. I have an AMD 3700x on x570 mobo. If it's the wrong thread sorry for the bother. Thanks.

  4. Hey guys, I need your help. This is the system, oldie but goodie: Intel i7-4790K Asus Maximus VII Hero 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 G-Skill RipjawsX 2133MHz ASUS Strix GTX 970 Cooler Master G650M psu Cooler Master Hyper212 Evo heatsink Corsair 450D case Basically when I push the power button (either on the case or on the motherboard) fans turn on but the motherboard doesn't even get to finish hardware checks: Q LEDs (image attached) say there is an error with the CPU and the Q-code LED (debug display) shows 00 (Not used). You can find attached a video from yesterday where the computer would turn off right after releasing the power button. Today, lights and fans stay on but the PC doesn't POST. The debug CPU_LED stays lit. Troubleshooting - I tried: - clearing CMOS - cleaning all dust - removing GPU - removing RAM sticks one at a time - changing PSU with a new Seasonic 650w - removing CPU from socket, compressed air to clean pins, then reseated CPU and heatsink - removed every storage device Nothing. Still the same issue. I don't have access to compatible hardware other then some DDR3 RAM sticks and another PSU. Buying used compatible components here in Italy is almost as expensive as buying new ones but without return policies... I can't find any decent one sold from amazon.it and I don't wanna waste any money on ebay unless I'm sure I'll solve the problem. Buying a new PC (CPU, Mobo, RAM) unfortunately is out of the question for me at the moment. To be honest, I had this problem a few months ago, I tried the same troubleshooting then out of desperation left the PC alone. After a couple of days everything worked as usual... Now the same issues again. All this would lead me to think it's either the CPU or Motherboard, but It's a strange issue, trying different things doesn't always deliver the same result. Sometimes it just turns off, sometimes it doesn't post, a couple of times it turned on! and next time I restarted the computer I was back at square one... Can I try something else? Thank you in advance for trying to help. video.mp4
  5. Specs: CPU: i5-3570k @ 4.2 GHz GPU: GTX 970 4GB, ASUS STRIX model, moderately OC @ 1450MHz (I think I can get to almost 1550MHz without touching the voltage). RAM: Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz 16GB (4x4GB) Score: 7.4 If only I could afford a VR headset right now... Hope they get way cheaper soon enough.
  6. Let me rephrase: if I spend 300+€ on a graphics card I will make it last 3-4 years. I'll tune down graphics options just like I'm doing now with the 660 until it won't be enough to decently play new games on medium-low settings. Then, I will upgrade. I figure the 970 will be up to the task since I have no plan to upgrade the monitor to a higher resolution. Of course new cards would be able to last even more, forcing an upgrade maybe 4-6 years from now, but you have to consider that I'll be buying it at least a year from now and probably at a higher price. I think I'm leaning more towards buying a 970 now and enjoying new games at max settings... Unity, Arkham knight and a few others made me suffer a little with this poor little 660.
  7. Mine sits at 1202MHz, it served me well for 2 and a half years. No, if I buy a 970 right now I'll be good for at least 3-4 years.
  8. Update: The model is not G1 Gaming, it's the other one: GV-N970WF3OC-4GD Still really good for the price, considering it's lower than reference models, even if the OC is not quite that good. However it does not have a backplate and that makes me sad.
  9. AMD unfortunately is out of the question. I'm well aware of the performance and I quite like the 8GB buffer but I rely often on features provided by Nvidia (Shadowplay, Gameworks, Gamestream, CUDA) and AMD optimization doesn't quite match Nvidia on most games (driver issues, maybe). And it costs more, at about 370€ you're paying for the difference, it's not a bargain.
  10. Unfortunately used market for single components is almost non existent (or not cheaper than new) here in Italy, apart from sketchy eBay sellers, I don't know why... That's what worries me. I don't know what to do T_T
  11. It is overkill for my use and for my money. I don't mind tuning down msaa. However, the point is: should I wait or just upgrade now?
  12. Hi, I have a GTX 660 oc and so far it served me well. I can still play all games (some just at min settings though) and I was planning to upgrade to the Pascal equivalent of the GTX 970. To put you in perspective, when the 970 came out in USA at 330$ it was available here in Italy over a month later and at more than 400€. It finally went down to 350€ after more than 6 months and it still is at around that price, depending on the manufacturer. Yesterday I came across a Gigabyte 970 G1 on amazon.fr at 299€ (310 including shipping) and it's bugging my mind ever since, it might be a nice Christmas present to myself... Now, the card it's just now a year old and my GPU is still fine to play just about everything but considering Pascal will not be released for at least 4-6 months, by the time it reaches a "reasonable" price (which means 350 to 400€ unfortunately) it will be already Christmas 2016. So I'll have to wait a year and spend 50 to 100€ to get Pascal... My question is: is it worth it? I know everything they said about 3D memory, NVlink, etc., which will probably effect just server stuff. The gaming related improvements are speculation for now and I don't know if it's gonna be the same 15% or so improvement or more... Looking at release history, the "next generation 970" will probably be around the 980 performance, I think. I stop here cause I could speculate for hours, so let me know if in your opinion I should wait or just buy now a 970 and enjoy games like Battlefront, Fallout etc. in full glory (yes, I play almost all new tripleA titles and Ubisoft ones are especially annoying with my 660). P.S. Does the Gigabyte G1 gaming have any negative I should know about? I know it fits my case and system (you can check the specs below) and that unfortunately it has no 0-rpm mode (is noise gonna be an issue?) i5-3570k at 4,3GHz Maximus V Gene 16GB DDR3 Corsair at 1600MHz GTX 660 OC CoolerMaster V650 PSU Corsair 350D
  13. Is this confirmed by Nvidia? Damn, not even for next Christmas then...
  14. No, a 980 or future equivalent is just overkill for me. I play on a 1080p monitor (144Hz) so the 70 is more than enough. I don't think spending 600€ on a graphics card is reasonable for any normal person. And it's nice because when the GPU raw power gets obsolete it's about time to upgrade anyway due to new features etc. Just think that my plan was to do another year with this 660... If I didn't think it was enough (even if just barely) I would have already upgraded.
