What I've found is that setting clock speeds achieved with lowering power limit, to the same speeds without lowering power limit... Doesn't change power usage or folding power. If that makes sense. I'd strictly stick with lowering power limit and calling it good. Just from my limited experience so far though.

You can just pause the slot you have set on your primary GPU

So that super slow WU I got, I decided to reduce the number of cores in that slot to 4, and create a new 6 core slot for something else to run at the same time.

Turns out reducing it from 10 to 4 cores has had ZERO impact on its TPF...like what?

Yeah, the reported numbers are a bit weird. I'm not sure exactly how it comes up with that PPD number. Current work unit? Processing power over the last x-amount of minutes? I've found it hard to tell when changing a setting actually shows the correct number on the client.

Also, that number is crazy low for a GT 1030. At least, I think it is? But it might just be that the full number hasn't shown yet.

Here's one of my rigs. Stats are in my profile.

Other rig is a twin-Xeon PowerEdge T610, nothing special.

Hey gang. I was just curious why F@H is so bad when it comes to multiple cores? I've got 12 cores / 24 threads and only get a bit less hashrate using say, 12 threads, as opposed to all 24, or even 20. Clock speed seems relatively unaffected too with those different settings, but the numbers are what they are, but with vastly less power consumption. Why?

Could it maybe have to do with cache or something like that where there ends up being a big diminishing returns because you're already running close to max? Same kind of situation on my i7-4600u. 1 thread gets me like 5,000+ PPD. Two gets me like ~8,500. 3 gets about the same. And 4 actually seems lower! But clock speed and cache frequency do suffer after 3+ threads which is expected I guess.

Well hey, with their processing power combined, you should still be working with some serious horsepower there!

How many points per day are you seeing with that GT 1030? Just curious.

Pretty much me, only with an bunch old desktops (AMD A8-5600K, AMD Phenom II X4 Black Edition 965 and a Intel i5-2130 and a crappy GT 1030 XD (also tried an old Intel Atom, is not worth the try for this XD ) Could add to the fight maybe a Intel E2160 or a Q6200 (that one is actually only running seti@home for now).

I got up this morning and, after four days of folding across 5 machines, I've got 109,000 points. I thought that was cool, then I saw some people get twice that in a single WU. Oh well, every little bit helps.

I have the gaming PC in my sig folding and that is it, 200k ish points a day at the moment. I wont win anything but hopefully if I can fold for most of the challenge I will place respectably.

Restarting the PC if both aren't grabbing for 30-60 minutes or pausing the part for 5 minutes if same but one part is.

We are constantly watching our systems for when they are out of WU and manually pausing and restarting ready slots to trigger calls for more WU every couple of minutes.

Is there anything we can do do help with shortage of work units? Either through our own client, or somehow running as a server? Or does the latter require extensive setup / expertise?

P.S., did the LTT gang ever set up their server they talked about?

Typically most of the professional cards have more and wider/faster access to memory which F@H won't take advantage of.

Titans are a better value for folding than Quadro RTX models as it's all about the number of Cuda cores and how fast they clock on the Nvidia side.

Not too many people use the AMD FirePro or RadeonPro cards for folding. I have one for the driver stability in Professional Workloads and they're usually not as productive as similary priced consumer cards.

yep it had the stock crap corsair includes with the CLCs and was hard as a rock and not very thin. and I applied the "crap" paste I keep for low end systems I repair Arctic Alumina I will likely get some Grizley or something but for now its stable and happy

I bet maybe a lot of people's GPU's are struggling for new work because so many people are favoring GPU folding over CPU?

my poor CPU on my main System the AMD 3900X since I opened all the cores on it has not had a rest for almost 24hrs. reapplying thermal grease on CPU Dropped the temp my 20F and raised the CLC by 10F its getting some Large jobs too takes it 30-40 mins on all cores and gets 6-10k

I know there's been a lot of discussion about CPU jobs just not being worth it as the power used for the points obtained (efficiency in PPD/W) is significantly less than the GPU Work Units (WUs) but please take into consideration that while GPUs are stellar at processing certain types of WUs other equally important simulations can only be done on CPUs due to their complexity.

Over the last few weeks there have been 20-30 new COVID-specific WUs that have passed Beta testing and released to the Advanced and Regular streams and if you have the thermal headroom and spare threads on your systems please consider configuring a CPU slot for folding.
