  1. Thanks for that. I was trying to do some reading on the UPS front. Would I be after an online UPS compared to an offline or line-interactive one? Or should I be looking for something else? Haven't delved too much into UPS's before...
  2. Hi everyone I have been having a rather unusual issue since solar was installed on my house a few months ago. Every time the panels are producing power, the PSU (Corsair RM1000X ~3 years old now) begins to make a very high pitched sound around 16khz. The moment the panels stop producing power, the sound ceases. I have had someone come from the solar company and tell me that it isn't really a problem. I think it is related to the modified sine wave produced by the Inverter (Sungrow SH5.0RS) and this causing some resonance in the power supply. To fix this, would buying a UPS work? I imagine it would need to be online to clean up this signal? Is there something else that can be done to the inverter or would a new PSU also solve the problem? Is there something less expensive then a UPS that i could connect to the wall to filter the power from the inverter Please let me know if you would like any other information! Other info that may be useful. I live in Australia where we have 50hz grid frequency with 240v power. I have attached the sound the PSU makes, slowed to 1% so it is audible for most people (160hz) PSU Buzz 1percent.m4a Cheers
  3. Thanks for the advice and sorry for the long response. Managed to get the RAM working at 2933mhz after some tinkering and would be nice to get it up a little faster. I'll keep having a play and see what ends up happening. Just very time consuming (but I guess that's overclocking for you!). Cheers Nick
  4. G'day I have recently (about 4 months ago) installed a 64GB kit of RAM into my computer (upgrading from 32GB) and this has been causing me all sorts of problems. I have not been able to overclock the RAM and it appears to be crashing constantly if my CPU and/or RAM usage is too high (often while processing photos and videos in lightroom/premiere). I'll attach some screenshots of my exact Motherboard, RAM and CPU. It worked well and overclocked to 3200Mhz when i had the previous kit, so not sure what might be the problem here other than faulty RAM? Is there any way to check this? It's not specifically listed in the compatible RAM kits for the motherboard however no 64GB kits were and I thought if my previous Trident Z kit worked, this one would too. Cheers for any advice or help! Nick
  5. Hi all, I have decided to invest in the Samsung 49" Super Ultra Wide D-QHD 120hz 5120x1440 monitor (LC49RG90SSEXXY), unless anyone vehemently objects... My main concern comes from how to implement this into my two monitor setup. I currently have a 32" 4K display alongside a 36" 2560x1080 ultra wide that reside side by side. I intend to use this new monitor for mostly productivity work (having more tabs open in chrome is sorely needed for my line of work) and so was hoping the monitor would lie above these two monitors, in front of the calendar in the photo below. I was wondering if anyone was familiar with a monitor stand that could handle both the weight (11.6kg/25.6lb) and dimensions of the new monitor so high above my desk. The base of the monitor would need to be about 50cm above the desk, putting the stand height at about 69-70cm. I haven't found any reasonably priced solutions so was wondering what you all use? Or if you think there is a better way to organise things please let me know! Many thanks! Nick
  6. Quick question relating to multi monitor set ups on the GTX 1070 Ti. I currently have a 2560x1080 monitor at 144hz and a 3840x2160 at 60hz monitor in use on my desktop. I'm looking at getting a third 49" 32:9 super ultrawide monitor (either 3840x1080 or 5120x1400) to rest above these two for use in my job (which often involves having multiple word docs open and various chrome tabs). Currently flicking back and forth across tabs, even between all these screens, is quite time consuming. For this low graphic intensity workload (I can always switch others off when gaming), will the graphics card be able to support all the monitors or would an upgrade be necessary? Thanks for your help! Nick
  7. Yeah I was honestly wondering when building the system if that 1080Ti was going to be overkill. All the games I play are pretty low spec (GTA V being the highest) so decided to get the 1070Ti which I found for a killer price. Saving up for a secondary monitor right now though as the one screen severely impacts my workflow for editing videos as well as my actual job haha!
  8. Well G'day everyone I have finally finished my Threadripper build to replace my 4 year old laptop (quite the upgrade!). Certainly was interesting putting this computer together as I have never done one before but the results were well worth it! Specs: AMD Threadripper 2950X NZXT X62 Kraken 32GB G.Skill 3200Mhz RGB RAM Aorus Gaming 7 Motherboard Corsair RM1000X PSU Gigabyte Aorus GTX1070Ti Samsung 970 Evo NvMe M.2 1TB SSD Samsung 970 Evo NvMe M.2 250GB SSD Thermaltake View71
  9. Here I am running a single core cine-bench mark test. Still sits at 3.9Ghz. Any ideas? Do i have the XFR2 boost disabled somehow? I also cant seem to determine which core it is utilizing during this test. It seems to be jumping around a little.
  10. G'day everyone Please excuse my lack of knowledge but I am currently a little confused as to how my task manager (TM) is displaying the Ghz my threadripper chip is outputting. AKA its supposed to be running at 3.5 Ghz and overclocking to 4.4Ghz but the TM is saying its normally idling around 3.8 and never over 3.9 despite having a 4.4Ghz boost clock. Is that normal or is the TM useless at trying to examine this sort of statistic and if so what would be better. Note: I haven't attempted to overclock it at this stage? Thanks for any help.
  11. Ahh life saver. Might get the noctua then to save some cash and then side grade to wraith ripper when its released.
  12. Thanks for your advice everyone @EsaT @Firewrath9 @LoGiCalDrm... Might end up going with the Kraken X62 due to its better looks and how it provides more room for the RAM as I do plan to eventually in the coming months fill all 8 slots... I know the thermals aren't as great but am probably not going to overclock, yet... Let me know if you have any gripes with my choice! Edit: I have also decided to get the Aorus Gaming 7 motherboard instead.
  13. Hey all. I have devised this lovely PC build but need to confirm as to whether or not the Noctua air cooler will interfere with the RAM slots or possibly any of the M.2 slots. https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/FGL6pG Any help would be greatly appreciated! Nick
  14. Well with those 2080Ti prices I'm just gonna hold back and maybe pick up a 1080 and upgrade next generation to save myself from any teething problems... It'd blow my budget way out of the water...
  15. Hey I'm literally in the same boat as you right now and looking to build a editing rig with maybe some casual gaming in the evenings. I thought this article from Puget Systems may be of interest as it helped me justify AMD (especially the 2950X when it comes out Friday week) CPU's given the second gen base clock and turbo clock increases. https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Premiere-Pro-CC-2017-1-2-CPU-Performance-Core-i9-7940X-7960X-7980XE-1034/ While it may not be the greatest optimisation, its definitely better than you may think and can only continue to get better in the future... If you decide on a final parts list let me know because I am still interested.
