I'd like to see an "ingredients" portion of the label. How much fiber is there really when they claim I have "fiber to the home"

williamcll reacted to LogicalDrm in Finnish electronics retailer mixed up in selling drones to Russia, partners cutting ties
To me this sounds and looks like overreaction. There are Finnish companies which are still knowingly operating in Russia. Here there was middleman and Jimms doesn't seem like knowingly doing anything (which would mean knowing and accepting what middleman is doing and knowingly aiding in such actions, the difference is big if you stop to think about it). With exception of not checking further on the middlemen who were exporting to Russia before the war and continued exports after conflict began. From those sources, I don't even see mention about them being investigated or accused about wrongful actions. The middleman got not guilty verdict on export charges from lower court.
Though I get that one would take another result. The wording, especially on io-tech article, makes it sound like its worse. Customs did investigate things and Jimms being the retailer, they were part of, but not main focus on, the investigation. There's also mention about "suspicion on drones ending in Russia", but thats from US putting the two main suspects on ban list. No proof, no direct investigations, no convictions. So other than admitting being scammed, not so bad.

williamcll reacted to Donut417 in U.S. revises chip export rules to China, RTX 4090D likely to be affected
Biden posted a tweet about how he talked to President Xi Jinping about US/China relations and other world issues. Im not sure if he did that before or after he forgot where he was.........
At this point its getting comical. We cant put the AI back in the box and really all these restrictions do is slow down the inevitable.

williamcll reacted to da na in U.S. revises chip export rules to China, RTX 4090D likely to be affected
Can't Nvidia come up with a more creative solution than removing 4 shaders and pretending it's a different chip?
-Sell China-only "RTX 4010" cards that turn into a 4090 when a different BIOS is flashed
-Split the graphics processor into two dies (ATi Fire GL4 style, separate the pixel and vertex shaders)
-Sell the boards to Chinese vendors then sell the chips separately
-Hire con men to transport 4090s to Asia in submarines
Come on, have some fun!

Hardware vendors can't catch a break. The US government is turning up the heat on export controls for advanced AI tech.
Quotes
Dunno what to say more about this farce, but that the looming black market for high-end GPUs amid tightening trade restrictions will push up the prices even more for all of us.

williamcll reacted to venomtail in The US Department of Justice accuses Apple of having an illegal monopoly over smartphones
Interesting dynamic in other countries when reading how the smartphone ecosystems work in the US, Japan and Korea. Segmented (in Apple's favor), prestige and socially not even accepted amongst younger generation if you don't have an iPhone.
Where as in Europe everyone uses 3rd parties. Whatsapp, Signal, Instagram, Messenger and Snapchat for most of people's communication.

It shouldn't be up to the government to decide that. Be a better parent.

-
williamcll got a reaction from TempestCatto in Lumafield (who make LTT's CT scanner) post CT scans of the lead in Stanley's Quencher Cup to help understand why it's there
No because the cup does not have a "do not use if vaccum seal is broken" sticker and people will get poisoning from having the solder leaking from the broken base.
