  1. If things don't work out or whatever, I'll definitely keep you in mind if I end up needing to offload my ticket for any reason! Now if only someone involved with LTX could answer my question about the BYOC/volunteering then I could know for sure what I'm gonna be doing ?@CPotter any info?
  2. What's your RAM usage looking like?
  3. I spy a CRU dataport on there, a Rosewill USB/card reader and you have a very similar fan controller to mine also - 40TB? how much does that sucker weigh!?
  4. Oh yeah, I'm working on that. I've also applied for the open positions at LMG so I already am getting on the trail of getting myself a work permit. As far as I've been able to determine, I need to at least have an offer from a potential employer first before I can apply so I have to wait to hear back about both the LMG position and the LTX volunteering. Either way, I have some legwork to get done to ensure I can go to LTX, on top of pulling some more money outta thin air by then
  5. Yeah I bought the BYOC ticket anyway, I still don't even know if I'll be able to go as I have to get my EDL to cross the border and make sure I have enough money for two days away from home. at least I don't have to worry about class on top of it but it also means I have no money from financial aid and I'm currently still job searching so....yeah. Its kind of one of those hoping my luck holds out for this eheh
  6. I'm coming up from Washington, planning on doing the BYOC and pulling an all-nighter, potentially also volunteering; 28, female, not usually a loner but my friends aren't as enthusiastic about LTX as me I am also very introverted generally but for some reason being tired af and hopped up on energy drinks makes me more outgoing than usual so its more likely I'll be way more social on the second day ?
  7. If all the pieces fall in to place for me to be able to go I'm planning to bring my Blue Beast desktop (AMD A8-7600 on an ASRock Killer Fatal1ty board + Sapphire Radeon Fury Nitro) with me, unless I decide its too much of a pain and then I'll just bring my kinda wimpy laptop (HP Envy x360 with a Ryzen 5 2500U + Vega integrated) with a cooling pad...
  8. If you've submitted an application to volunteer and also want to do the BYOC, do you still need to buy a full price BYOC ticket or will there be some sort of discount or compensation since volunteering also gets you tickets to LTX? I want to be able to go do BYOC so I don't have to get a hotel or drive home and drive back the next day of the event.
  9. I would double and triple check that the RAM you've picked is on the QVL for your motherboard because Ryzen is notoriously fussy with RAM. Or, at least in my experience, it was ? I would also recommend if you can take advantage of your motherboard's NVMe capability and get a 120/240/480/500 (probably comes down to price and how much stuff you want to put on it for regular use) GB drive for your OS and most used programs/games, then you can get a big HDD for mass storage.
  10. So far I love the Ironclaw. Its a bit chunkier than the Dark Core, and has a few less buttons but its great for palm grip and bigger hands. I can rest my hand on it comfortably and not have to move my fingers into funky positions to reach the buttons or move the mouse. If it had one more thumb side button, it would literally be the perfect mouse for me.
  11. I'm not sure - I checked the Corsair website, but didn't see anything. I know they offer some of their other keyboards with various different switch types. If they do have another version of the SE white board it might not be in production anymore.
  12. Have you tried checking on ebay? If you can, find the maintenance manual for your laptop and look up the parts list - it should list replacement part numbers to help make finding the right part easier. I've done this with an old HP laptop and have also used it to help buy compatible non-OEM parts for my new laptop.
  13. I use this Cooler Master VGA holder thing to help hold up my GPU. As far as replacing fans, it shouldn't be too hard depending on if you can find a suitable replacement for them. I would also suggest, if you haven't already, take the card out and give it a good cleaning - and the rest of the system, too. If you're comfortable with taking the card apart you could do a full clean that way. I've done it for a friend's GTX 1080ti and it actually got her temps down after I cleaned it out and replaced the thermal paste, but I don't recommend it if you don't know what you're doing.
  14. Definitely don't do less than 3000mhz RAM for Ryzen, don't bother with an aftermarket cooler if you're not going to OC as the stock cooler that comes with Ryzen chips is decent.
  15. Maybe not to the specific systems but the PSN has most definitely been hacked and user info leaked, so I wouldn't really call that any better.
  16. I've used ZoneAlarm for years with no trouble. Along with running a good firewall, and good anti-virus, also having a secondary scanner is another good idea - some AV software may not detect something that another will, so if you suspect a virus but your main software is not picking up anything, grab another scanner and give your system a pass with it just to be safe. And, as I mentioned, you may have to get at your system from outside the OS if its a particularly nasty little bugger that's hiding itself from regular scans. EDITED to add: I personally use a combination of Windows Firewall with ZoneAlarm, Avast AV and MalwareBytes. I also use a custom hosts file to block redirects to known "bad" sites - though this may not be something you want to mess with if you're not super familiar with tinkering around in your OS.
  17. Avast, AVG, BitDefender, Malwarebytes, etc.
  18. First off, do you use a firewall? Anti-virus software? Does your router have a firewall? If the answer to any of this is no, then that needs to change first of all. And no, relying on only Windows Firewall and Windows Defender is not enough. As for recovering the computer, you should be able to do that using a virus scanner and removal tool that allows you to scan and remove files outside of the OS. Check out this guide here for how to do it >> https://www.howtogeek.com/175234/how-to-use-an-antivirus-boot-disc-or-usb-drive-to-ensure-your-computer-is-clean/
  19. I know its kind of over-the-top, but I'm a giant Corsair fangirl so I always have to push a recommendation for them The K70 RGB MK.2 SE is actually the board I'm considering for an all-white build I want to do eventually. Its super sleek and clean looking, plus I particularly love Corsair's volume scroll wheel and I don't think I could buy a board without one again...
  20. I got one of those stupid gaming chairs. It killed my back so I took it back and just got a basic high-back office chair, just like my previous chair which had broken, and all is well again. If you can, go to a store and try out the chairs until you find one you like. That's how I had to do it and it took me a couple weeks to end up with the right chair because the gaming chair initially felt okay in the store, but not after I got it home and sat in it for hours at a time.
  21. It looks to be a power-only cable. I'd suggest a cable from Anker, like this one. Never had any problems with their cables and they're good quality.
  22. I love Corsair and the Dark Core, that being said it has some....issues. The ability to change the right side panel between flat or with a pinky-rest is nice and being able to use it via wireless, bluetooth or USB is also neat. However, the bluetooth connection has been a little buggy in my experience, ie whenever my computer goes to sleep, the mouse stops working when I wake it back up and the only way to get it to reconnect is restarting the computer. Its a fairly lightweight mouse. And of course, if you're already fully Corsair geared then it will fit nicely with your system and the ability to sync RGB lighting. I also have full Corsair for my desktop which made the choice between a Logitech G502 and the new Corsair Ironclaw basically an easy one after testing both mice for a while. One other downside is the SE model with wireless charging and the QI enabled mousepad...unlike Logitech's wireless charging, you can't use the Dark Core SE while charging. It has to sit on one specific spot on the mousepad to charge, so I wouldn't even bother with the SE version and the QI pad. So if you're planning on using the Dark Core with the wireless dongle, or the USB cable, then I'd say give it a shot. Its also a lot more affordable than the G Pro if you're on a budget.
  23. I'd say a good mouse should feel comfortable to you, first and foremost. People can recommend you mice all day long but its so subjective - everyone raves about the G502 but I hate how it feels in my hand, and I tested it for a few weeks before switching it out for the Corsair Ironclaw which fits my hand perfectly. I still like the G502, but using it long-term, I found myself groaning about how small it felt in my hand and how hard reaching certain buttons was for me. The best thing I can say is, figure out what you want from a mouse. What kind of grip style you want, how many buttons do you absolutely need to have, do you like a heavy mouse or a light mouse, etc. and then pick some mice that fit your criteria and give them a shot. The best way to find your perfect mouse is to just try some mice and see what feels right to you.
  24. The G502 Hero is pretty nice, smaller than the G602, plenty of buttons and its lightweight with the option to add weights. I find it too narrow for the way I hold my mice, but other than that I liked the button layout and wish it were as big as the G602, which I also have. It isn't wireless but I'd still recommend you give it a look.
