See, I was hoping to make this card last at least until Christmas when I should have some more funds, and hopefully there are more sales, but I just never know anymore. My first R9 270X didn't even last a year before it died, my Fury was fine until it wasn't, I've gone through 3 PSUs already since I first built my system, and I've already had to exchange the CPU and RAM on this build when I upgraded a few months ago because I couldn't figure out for sure what was faulty. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it was just a momentary glitch.

Well, I might have to pull the trigger on a new card sooner rather than later and settle for what I can get. I think this GPU might be on the outs because I just had a black screen crash when tabbing back in to a game. Either that, or the PSU could be the culprit according to Event Viewer logs and bugcheck codes. It might have also just been a random fluke because I was also adjusting the fan curve while it happened, though I was doing the same thing earlier today and had no problems. I hate my garbage luck with technology. ?

There's part of me that would love to see her work for LMG (I think they need more women on staff tbh) but the other part of me jealous because I have at least another 2 years before they'll even consider hiring me cause I'm not Canadian (gotta get that bachelor's degree to be considered "skilled" enough to get a work visa) and I've been trying for the last 2 years while working on my associate's. BUT I am glad to finally see a female win one of these tech giveaways for once; we like computers too ya'll!

Fury was only 4GB, but it was HBM. I never ran into memory problems, surprisingly, even at 4k with that card. I definitely want to go for 8GB for whatever I get next, but I'm hesitant to go for a 590 because it might not perform as well at 4k from what I've read.

That's what I'm hoping, but so far nothing I've had my eye on has changed price at all. I got really lucky with my Fury when I got that, my luck might have all been spent on that. I literally bought that card at a badass price on the very exact day my GPU at that time died on me lol

Yes, it was a Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury, (not a Fury X) and it was an amazing card. Like I've mentioned, I'd just buy the same card if I could find one for the same price but I'm limited to buying from Newegg because of how my warranty refund worked. Newegg has a used one for about $300 which I can't really justify for a used card even one as great as the Fury. So yeah, I'm kind forked til I can scrape up enough money to go for a better card or hope the ones I'm looking at for viable replacements drop in price (and preferably before my old card that I'm using in the interim decides to die - again) or something new comes out at the right price point. I just can't really do much with the card I'm stuck with and was hoping to get back in working order sooner rather than later. Chalk it up to the instant gratification culture I was raised in, I guess. I'm impatient, especially when it comes to working on my computer.

I'm not familiar with the MSI BIOS but it should be pretty similar to most others, there should be a section for "Advanced config" and listed under north bridge config. At least that's where it is for me on my asrock board. If you have your motherboard manual handy (you can also Google it for a digital pdf) it should also mention where that setting is located specifically for your board. I added a pic of my bios screen that may or may not help depending on how similar yours is.

Did you go into the BIOS and disable the igpu and the shared memory it uses? That'll make your gaming experience a bit shit if everything's trying to use the igpu because it's not as good as a dedicated card and it uses system RAM as it's vram which will be slower than the gddr5 on your rx580.

I wish that were the case here, but I'm in the US and warranty/return policies are all the feck over the place depending on where you bought it from. The card itself came with I think a 2-year warranty from Sapphire, but I contacted them and they said it was no longer under warranty and they don't make them anymore (there isn't even a page for the Fury on their site anymore). I was a dumb and at first I forgot that I bought the 3-year extra warranty via Newegg (which actually went through Square Trade, that was fun hunting it down because they changed providers since I bought it and I never got any emails or notifications about it) so in the end I'm only out the $50 I spent on the plan + tax/shipping from when I bought the card, since I didn't have to pay to ship it back and I got back what I paid for it when I bought it. I only wish that I could either find another Fury for the same price, or that they'd given me a generic Visa gift card so I could buy from wherever instead of being stuck to only Newegg (nothing wrong with Newegg, I just sometimes find better prices elsewhere). Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna wait til I can afford an RX 5700 or potentially grab a Vega or Radeon VII, depending on what goes on sale and how much money I'll have to spend past the $250 I got back. I'm currently broke and in between jobs or I'd already have ordered something. I'm still torn between either Sapphire or ASRock for my next card though, considering both my GPUs that I've had die were Sapphire and I've had 3 ASRock motherboards with zero issues. I'm very wary to try brands I'm not as familiar with personally. I might give an Asus card a shot seeing as my Asus display is still serving me well 5 years later. I'm hoping there will be some good sales this holiday season, or someone takes pity on me and I get a buttload of money for Christmas and/or my birthday in January...

Idk what you mean there. But I have no problem with them, I'm just annoyed that my refund was a Newegg gift card and not like a Visa I could use anywhere in case I found a better deal on like Amazon or something. lol I only paid $250+tax and $50 for a 3-year warranty when I bought it nearly 3 years ago. Brand new. It was a good deal, and considering my 270X died the SAME day I bought it, it worked out well. I sent the 270X back to Sapphire and got a replacement under their warranty (Had to pay shipping) so that's the only reason I even have a working GPU at all right now. I don't really care about the noise, my neighbors make more noise than my PC most of the time ? but blowers tend to run hotter, don't they? I do care about temps as I'm pretty sure that's what killed my Fury. The thermal paste was actually burnt when I opened it up after it died.

Basically, I'm having a hell of a time figuring out what my upgrade path is going to be. Originally, I'd settled on getting an RX 5700 XT once I had the money, but that plan went out the window when my R9 Fury died. I got $250 back for it from my replacement plan with Newegg, and after doing some research I really can't find anything comparable to my Fury for that price. Problem is, I am stuck with an R9 270X until I can get a new card, and its not able to push my 4K display like my Fury could. I can't find another Fury for the same price, even used, on Newegg, or I would just get another one. And that 250$ is a Newegg-only gift card so I'm stuck trying to find something there, and I can't shop around like I would normally. I've read a bunch of stuff about the RX 5700s having some horrid driver issues and such, which makes a little less inclined to go for that now. My other thought was to just wait until I have enough money to go for a Vega or a Radeon VII instead. Unless I can find a sub-$250 GPU that will perform as well at 4k 60hz or better than my Fury, I'm probably going to have to wait. That said, if anyone has any suggestions, knowing I'm limited to Newegg right now - I could use some ideas. If it helps my current system specs: Ryzen 5 3600, ASRock X570 Steel Legend, 32GB Corsair Dominator RGB 3000mhz, Samsung 970 EVO m.2, Corsair 750W PSU, and my good old Sapphire R9 270X Toxic, the first GPU I ever bought for myself.

If you're doing programming and gaming you might be better served on a Ryzen system. I used a laptop with a Ryzen 5 2600U while I did my IT degree, which included everything from spooling up multiple VMs to scripting in Powershell and bash, Python programming, and working with the Microsoft ADK/SDK, Azure and AWS, etc. It never had a problem with anything, and this was a 2-in-1 little bitty laptop. It kicked my desktop's ass at the time til I upgraded that to a Ryzen 5 3600. I'd definitely look into going that route since you could save yourself a lot of money while still getting the kind of performance you're looking for.

Try removing and replacing the RAM in a different order. If the board is flashing a RAM error, even only briefly, removing and replacing it may solve the problem. Make sure all your modules are fully seated.

If you didn't update the BIOS prior to putting in the new CPU, that board would not recognize that CPU. It needs the BIOS update to be compatible with newer Ryzen chips. See if your board has the USB BIOS flashback feature, as that will allow you to update the BIOS with no CPU.

If you haven't already, also make sure the integrated graphics are completely disabled via the BIOS, and that you aren't allocating any shared RAM to them. That can also impact performance if you're not using the iGPU but still allocating resources to it. However, I can tell you that APU is a giant bottleneck for any GPU that isn't the one integrated into it. I had an A8 7600 and it was constantly maxed on any game where my GPU just laughed at it. I would recommend an upgrade to at least an AM4 socket CPU without integrated graphics since you're using a discrete GPU, since the socket you're on has no options that will get you out of that bottleneck.

Did you make sure your BIOS can support the new CPU? Is your motherboard listed as compatible with the new CPU? Check for bent pins in the socket.

I upgraded from an old AMD A8 to Ryzen 5 3600, and for the first week when nothing worked I started to regret my decision there. But, once you nail down the cause, and find your fix (in my case I sent both the CPU and RAM back to Newegg for RMA) everything is great. Even if your CPU doesn't have visibly bent pins, it can still be faulty. It could also be a matter of a few pins not having made proper contact, so removing and re-seating it again usually fixes that. If your problem still persists then it could be a fault in the CPU that isn't visibly apparent, or it could be a different component. To test your RAM, you have a few options. Windows has a built-in memory diagnostic that you can use. I'd also suggest Memtest86 as that's been the gold standard for RAM testing for basically as long as I've been alive. Its a pain in the ass but you'll have to run tests on each stick of RAM separately as well as together, and you'll also want to test each stick in each slot on your motherboard. That can narrow down if the cause is a faulty RAM slot and not a RAM module itself.

It sounds like you have failing hardware. Have you got known good spares of all your parts to test with? It seems the likely culprit might be your motherboard, so if you have a spare working motherboard to test that theory, then that's where I'd start.

Check your RAM, re-seat your CPU, if you have a spare CPU to test with, I'd also try that. I had similar issues with lots of BSODs and it turned out to be my CPU being faulty. It can cause all sorts of weird issues.

If reseating the CPU doesn't fix your problems, I'd try replacing the CPU. I had similar problems and couldn't isolate specifically what was causing it, but just sent my RAM and CPU back to Newegg for replacements and now seem to be running just fine.

Finally, my replacement RAM and CPU have arrived. I have my system all back together and it seems to be working now, I booted into Windows with no issues and have been hopping around on the internet for a bit just fine. Played a video, had no problems with that. I'm guessing it had to have been the CPU, or something. Now that it seems to be stable on default settings, I can start working out my fine-tuning with that Ryzen DRAM calculator and then maybe I'll try firing up a game and see what happens with that. Here's hoping my problems have finally resolved, though if not I'll be back....

Alright, I've gotten to the point where it can literally only be the CPU or the mobo, so I'm going to return the CPU, and the RAM just in case it might have gotten screwed up, and see if that fixes my problems. This is such a pain. I just hope replacing the parts works, and if its still not working I'll have to replace the mobo too. At that point if it doesn't work I would willingly just go back to my old system and get my money back
