Note that the RX 480 will not 1440p75 unless you're playing games in the late 7th gen or games that are made for easy 60+ fps gameplay (like Battlefront)

Not that I can remember, was ages ago when I did it. Best advice I can give is don't just follow Linus's video . Have a look on youtube and watch a few to get a feel for who actually knows what they are doing, but common sense really is the most applicable thing here.
 
 

I'm not sure what scenario you're referring to, but from what I've seen they're pretty good overall. Much better than most others in fact. 
If they acted stupid in one specific issue, I can understand getting annoyed. However, you look at most other popular tech channels (Jayztwocents, Linus [no offense to him of course], tek syndicate, Awesomesauce Network, Digitalfoundry), I can point out so many more issues they all have when compared to Gamers Nexus. Digitalfoundry and Tek Syndicate most notably say some of the dumbest crap yet people consider them reliable.
Whether they made a notable stupid mistake once or twice doesn't make their testing less valid considering half of the Youtubers I mentioned don't even use minimums all the time, let alone the 0.1% and 1% fps deltas. Their numbers aren't simply made up just because you've lost faith in their competence. 
Whatever their past configurations were, it looks like they learned (something that tells a lot more than one or two stupid mistakes). Their test setup is definitely not an FX-9590 anymore, and (at least on the GPU side) I've noticed they're not biased for one brand or another, or even one card or another (something I can't say for any of the youtubers I mentioned above).
In any case, I won't respond to your next comment because I know how people on the internet generally take to being challenged in their logic and this'll likely only escalate. Just noting: you do what you do, I'll continue to do what I'm doing.

The GTX 970 will likely satisfy your needs best due to its more consistent frame times (and lowest frame rates) in games and its memory compression is efficient enough that (even when SLI'd) you're very unlikely to run into a VRAM bottleneck at 1080p or 1440p.

The 270x/7870 GHz tends to be the most similar in performance to a GTX 950. For current gen cards, the 370 is generally a bit worse while the 380 is generally a bit better.

I would never do that trade. I'd definitely haggle or nothing here.

If you can find a 680 like these are saying that'd be great... but that's usually a lot more than $100 like in your post.
A 580 on the other hand isn't, and is pretty good. It's not a huge step up from a 6950, but hey- Cuda cores right?.
280/280Xs are usually only slightly higher in price, but will benefit you more in its overall value. 

It doesn't take away from its value, but most people simply won't be able to/willing to (and it won't be worth it for many either) deal with that considering it's not a site where you can ship items elsewhere. It's just viable in one part of the world.

The 580 is a a decent amount worse than the 670. The 670 was quite the hit when it came out because of its crazy performance.

As a quick side note: Before anyone assumes I haven't looked at Jumper's LGA775 guide I have. Jumper's LGA775/771 guide was definitely useful but there's still a lot I don't know about older hardware that's important for buying what I'm wanting (LGA775/771 conversions, knowing about the other mobo chipsets not included in the guide, how to find the appropriate RAM, what the approximate equivalent Xeon CPUs are, etc.)
I've been trying to figure out the best combo for price/performance in the low(ish) end spectrum of eBay parts. It's a little frustrating though because many LGA775 motherboards don't support the C2Q series or, more specifically, the Q9xxx series. The main frustration comes from it being very difficult to find out support lists and such even when given the motherboard model number. This, for example, says it supports the C2Q series... it doesn't specify which CPUs supports though. Some motherboards I come across will support the Q6xxx series but not the Q9xxx or Q8xxx series. Also, there is a ton of different speeds and types for RAM. If this combo won't work for whatever reason, I'll probably post more threads or ask in this thread for more help. I'm pretty much set on the Q9400. It's really good in price/performance, though I would take advice if one could find a better price/performance Xeon CPU or something in the same range. If anyone's curious, my experience with compatibility is pretty limited and I really only know about newer hardware. I do know the performance of most hardware significantly better than I do compatibility. With the info I've been given, will this combination work?   CPU Motherboard RAM   I understand that overclocking is very useful, but it's not absolutely needed for what I want to do. Keep that in mind if you try to help me out with the motherboard... it's nice if it does have it, but it's not needed. EDIT: I have no idea why it says "Default" in the title. I may have gotten side tracked or something when typing it?
