Salv8 (sam) got a reaction from DededeKirby in Filmora is no longer supporting user's Lifetime licenses.
the filmora community looks like it'll be no-mora after this.
(oh shut up someone would make it)
anyways, they technically advertised it on their website and since they have taken it away it could be a case of lying to the consumer. if anyone where to oh i don't know, complain to their country's advertising standard's bureau, filmora could get into a bit of trouble and i wouldn't be surprised if they had to honor the old licenses (begrudgingly at least)

I welcome this, it would accelerate the exodus of any well-adjusted person from the platform until only the shitlords remain.

Salv8 (sam) reacted to HenrySalayne in The First Room-Temperature Ambient-Pressure Superconductor has been found
This is quite interesting, but I see two problems:
- Lead is banned under the RoHS directive, so a lead-based superconductor might be a problem.
- The time between creating something in a lab and solving the technical issues to deploy and use it in everyday applications can be easily two decades.

Salv8 (sam) reacted to da na in Google proposes turning browsers into DRM software for the web | Ending AD Blocking for all browsers
Like with any DRM, it will inevitably just become an arms race of addons and extensions trying to circumvent website DRM, and Google trying to block addons, wasting a ton of time and money that could be spent somewhere useful.
At this rate I won't be too bothered if solar flares knock out internet access for several years.

No. Time to dust off the Sherman Anti Trust Laws and pull out the fucking hammer they used on the Ma Bell and break Alphabet up. Along with all the cable and phone providers.

Salv8 (sam) reacted to wanderingfool2 in [Rumour] Switch 2 Dev Kit controller contains scroll wheels, patents corroborate
By having things on a prototype, it doesn't mean it will become a thing. Sony's boomerang comes to mind. It could be so they could test it out and figure that it's not great or practical (but it still remains in the prototype).
With that said, someone's going to be fired. If someone asks for a private screening and the TSA officer openly talks about what was inside said contents, they must be violating some trade secrets conventions or something like privacy policy (just my guess)

It will be interesting to see how the dust settles on this one, not just in the EU where it is required, but how it will spill over to the rest of the world.

Salv8 (sam) reacted to whispous in Australia Drafts Bill to Fine Social Media Companies for spreading Misinformation
It's a two-edged sword, always.
It hinges entirely upon an impossible factor:
What is truth?
There's shades of grey, at each end you can clearly identify outright lies and objective truths, but in the middle dwells opinion and assertions about people's motives. Having this part under the control of a government always leads to propaganda, having it under the control of the social media corporation always leads to no-one on either side being happy, and the government will screech at them when it doesn't go their way.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as FOSS, is in fact, FOSS/Commerical Repackaging, or as I've recently taken to calling it, FOSS plus Paid Developers.

Salv8 (sam) reacted to Uttamattamakin in Windows 365 Boot. A Paid subscription and internet to be able to use a PC at your workplace. What great idea !
Exactly. I could see this as being, perhaps, a way to share hardware that is in short supply. Like Nvidia has a product that allows sharing of their enterprise GPU's as a virtual workstation, or virtual desktop. Not sure how that works though.
You know they could just have a Samsung Dex like app that one installs on their cell phone, and the access a full fat windows desktop remotely. I'd bet that's a thing already.
What I think they are really selling is the service of setting up and maintaining all of that. A lot of businesses would rather just pay a subscription than have an employee on staff to handle these things. Businesses aren't run by IT departments, they are run by people who don't understand IT. They are run by the ones who hire and fire.
Hiring people is not easy especially when small-medium companies are still looking for a perfect fit and haven't learned to be flexible around an employee. Firing people is not easy ... because if they hired someone and gave them a real chance to do the job 1-2 years. Get to work with someone for 1-2 years and it can be hard to make that cut.
So, they just pay a subscription to a megacorp and be done with it.

if the key to the lock is stored with said lock it doesn't matter how hard people make it to get to said key, with enough time, patience and will, it will be cracked.
