  1. I recently bought a new keyboard which has media keys+volume dial. The volume dial works fine and so do the media keys when watching videos on Youtube. However the overlay is distracting as it's a big block with the picture preview and name/title. I'm just wondering if its possible to hide that part and only show the volume ui/overlay?I know you can disable Hardware Media Key Handling but I still want to use it, just hiding the text part.
  2. Thanks guys, will keep the 6600k for longer then. 8 cores/12 threads wouldn't have a huge impact in todays games ay? I've seen forums/tech youtubers seem to praise the 2600 price and spec wise performance it offered compared to 8th gen i5. My i5+z170 2015 msrp cost more than the current 2600+b350 prices which was a factor on if I should upgrade+fps boost.
  3. Hey all, I've had a 6600k oc to 4.4ghz since 2015. Recently got a GTX1080 to replace my 1070 but sometimes I feel its not using its full potential in some recent games/stable or above 144fps. I play at 1080p and will eventually upgrade to 1440p 144hz. I'm wondering will the 2600 oc to 4.2ghz be viable for me to maintain fps? Will the more cores and threads also benefit me? I was originally planning an 8600k but 2600+B350 pricing is more attractive here. I don't do any productivity/content creation just mainly gaming and multitasking by the way. Also another thing I have to consider is that I hear Ryzen is better with faster RAM, but I only have 2400mhz sticks. Or is it best to keep the 6600k for a bit and wait for a new generation/chipset?
  4. Hey all, I'm looking into buying a 8600k to replace my 6600k and Asus Z170M-Plus I've had for nearly 3 years. I'm going to pair it with a GTX 1080 I recently purchased and would like to achieve a stable 144hz fps at 1080p/later upgrade to 1440p 144hz. I've narrowed it down to these two boards within my budget which I can't decide which is reliable to overclock. Ideally I would like to run at 4.5ghz but sometime later I would like to achieve a stable 5ghz. The other features I would like to know as well is which one has a better onboard sound chip, and if the second PCIe slot runs at 3.0 x16. I would like to hear your guys experiences from these boards and overclocking results. I'm also using a NZXT x61 AIO. ASRock is cheaper about $40nzd compared to Asus but I've only used an Asus mobo and it's been good/easy bios for me to understand but willing to try ASrock as it seems to be praised for this chipset.
  5. Hey all, currently I have an: i5 6600k oc to 4.4ghz at 1.3v ( temps are under 49C when 100% load) Asus z170m-plus mobo 16gb 2400mhz Ram GTX 1080 NZXT Kraken x61 I upgraded from a 1070 to a 1080 but didn't really see too much of a difference in fps. I play at 144hz 1080p (planning on 1440p later in future) but noticed my cpu would be 95-100% load at certain games and sometimes fps can drop minimally to 80fps. This didn't happen too often when I had a 1070 and I used to game at 1440p 120hz! (maybe because of W10 1803 build and I'm using 391 Nvidia drivers). I feel like it's time for me to upgrade cpu/mobo so I can get full usage of my 1080 and would like a stable 144hz. Where I'm from, an i5-8600k is quite reasonably priced and I only game (no streaming, occasional program and office work here and there) is good enough for my needs but I would like to overclock it to at least 4.5ghz under 1.4v. At some point in the future I would also like to run at 4.7ghz to max 5ghz stable with the 8600k. What motherboard would be suitable for this without spending too much extra money on features I know I don't need? So far I was thinking of Asus prime z370-p or ASRock Z370M Pro4. The Asus prime z370-a is an extra $90nzd and seems ideal but I would like to know first if the other lower end z370 can achieve good enough overclock.
  6. I got the build plan idea from this. This user's specs was an i5 2400+GT 1030 and they were going to run SW2015/2016 for their build so I wouldn't have think SW2013 required to have latest components. Ah that video explains it more clearly, cheers! I have a general idea of what components and build to go for now + my friend's needs. Only thing to consider now is either W7 or W10? I've never used SW but will there be any compatibility/support issues? I thought W10 could be good since it's the latest and still supported OS but SW2013 was meant to run in W7 correct?
  7. I am helping a family friend who needs a new PC primary for SolidWorks 2013. I have little knowledge about a workstation/CAD type PC as the only thing I can help with is the building process and I'm more acknowledged about gaming orientated/spec type builds. Short story, they were using an old laptop and the GPU must have fried out as they were running work type/CAD programs (mainly SolidWorks 2013). I believe it had a Geforce 8000/8600 series GPU. Main requirements they wanted was a dedicated GPU, 2x display outputs (vga/hdmi or else converters could work), 64 bit preferably W7 but W10 could be fine. They don't game. They do basic web browsing/usage and MS office programs. I'm just wondering what GPU, CPU, PSU, Mobo would be suitable for this? From my POV/price wise; Geforce GT 1030 (Quadro could be better suited but idk which model suits/how demanding SW 2013 is?) 400 or 500 watt PSU DDR4 Ram W10 OS Will this be sufficient enough? I'm unfamiliar with CPU but a stock cooler i7-4790 or I7 6th gen? Or are some i5 good enough as well (eg i5 2400) or even i3? Again SolidWorks 2013 is just the main application and I’m looking for the build price to be inexpensive/fair that match the specific needs. I'm from NZ so some prices/availability may be different compared to Western countries but am open to your guys recommended build plans/specs.
  8. Hi there, I recently bought a new laptop but am in need for a travel type wireless mouse. I use the Razer Naga as my main desktop mouse and love the left/right tilt function on the mouse scroll. I was wondering what cheap/off brand mouse also have this feature. I am looking for: preferably bluetooth (dongle is fine), 2 side buttons, and the left/right tilt scroll function. I don't need a $50+ gaming mouse/big brand just looking for a cheap wireless mouse for occasional use if I game on my laptop when I'm away from my PC. Aliexpress is the best online shopping platform for me but am open to other suggestions/links. TeckNek or E5 seems to be nice mouses as the side buttons look comfortable but they both don't have the tilt scroll. Regards.
  9. @RandomGuy13 Thanks for the acknowledgment. I'm also gonna post a new thread sometime about a ideal monitor to look for. At the moment I have a Qnix2710 I've been using for 2 years and its PLS panel+overclock has nice colours when watching and gaming. Never tried VA before and I'm planning to get the Crossover 32SS which has a AMVA+ panel. @M.Yurizaki Cheers! The comparison has made it more better for me to understand. Where I'm from we don't have vast monitors on display at tech shops compared to TVs
  10. Hi there, I'm planning to buy a new 1440p monitor and currently I have a PLS monitor. I usually stick with IPS type panels as I'm more into the colour accuracy/reproduction but now I'm just wondering how does AMVA+ stand up today? I've heard AMVA has improved and even can be better than IPS by today's standards but I've never used an AV panel before and last time I heard was that AMVA has better black/white contrasts but lower colour accuracy than IPS. I'm primarily just using it for gaming and general video watching so nothing professional but do love colours.
