As @thepanda66 stated above. Typical home use case, modem (fiber, cable, DSL, etc.) connects to the WAN port and your personal devices connect to the LAN ports.

For the second part of your question, you'll need to double check your user manual but typically you'll use the LAN port for repeater function.

A bit off topic but I'm the opposite... I tend to get caught off guard when a cashier (who many times is young enough to be my kid) asks for my I.D. when buying beer...

The sad part is, now anti-vaxxers are going to point at this to reinforce their beliefs that it's all a conspiracy and that the government is trying to hide the truth ... God I hate Facebook, it's worse than the YT comment section.

Personally, I love VMs; you only have to maintain a single set of hardware, you get lower electric bill, depending on one's configuration, it's really easy to re-allocate the resources for the VMs whenever one needs and so on. The only downside is that if the machine goes down, it takes everything running on it down with it. I don't see that as a very big concern: just make sure all the hardware runs stable and pop a UPS on it and all should be well.

The largest issue with running everything in a VM on one machine is as mentioned above. If you have to take the server down for any reason everything hosted on that server would go down as well. For a home user it probably isn't the end of the world if you have to take down the server to clean it out or repair it and IMO the pros far outweighs the cons.

For any server you build, the reliability will come down to the most unreliable component. Running one VM host server instead of multiple bare metal units will allow you to splurge a bit more on it. For me, power is a pretty big factor. In my instance, running PFsense on a bare metal server consumed approximately 70 watts where as when I run it in a VM, the host server power consumption barely increased (likely due to the low resource consumption of PFsense). A big advantage is the ability to snapshot your VM so if an upgrade borks your setup, instead of having to reload your OS or try to repair it, you can just apply the snapshot. You can increase resources with a few clicks of a mouse if your VM needs it...depending on factors, you may even be able to do this without shutting the VM down. With all that said, having redundancy and maybe even hot swappable parts is a good idea. I run a retired Dell server which has hot swap PSUs, fans, and every HDD. Still...keep on top of backing things up and have a plan if one day you wake up to a server that releases the magic smoke.

even if it was YouTube automated system it would still be Linus's fault?
also shouldn't you wait to hear a statement from Fullscreen and LMG.

But this falls under the same ruling if you go to a accountant to get your taxes done, and they made a mistake. the mistake is on the accountant not the person that went to the account. Fullscreen does copyright management which makes them responsible for the claims they make.

You seem to be misinformed. There's a HUGE difference between a copyright claim and a takedown notice resulting in a copyright strike.

Copyright claims, which is what has happened here to The Linux Gamer are often an automatic process where Content ID detects that a portion of your copyrighted content has appeared in another video on Youtube, and will issue a copyright claim on the video. The video remains public and viewable by the viewers, however any ad revenue generated by the video may be redirected to the original copyright holder. There's no punishment for the channel when a copyright claim is made against them, they will just lose the revenue for the video.

Copyright strikes or takedown notices, which is what The Verge did, are when they manually issue a legal notice that a video is infringing on their copyright and that they demand the video be removed from the platform. The channel will then receive a copyright strike against their channel which comes with punishments for the channel, such as losing their ability to live stream or perhaps no longer being 'recommended' or promoted in the search results or feed which can severely hurt the channels traffic and views. If they are issued with multiple copyright strikes, their channel can be removed completely.

What The Verge did was malicious and was purely because they didn't like what Bitwit was saying. What happened to The Linux Gamer is just the result of an automated system, and it appears the MCN Fullscreen has swiftly corrected the mistake and the video is no longer claimed.

Same where my parents live in Alabama.  They will annouce the checkpoints and where they be at.  They still nab a few drunks on occasions.  Indeed, very hilarious. They just basically ask for driver license and insurance (no searching, no breath test unless they smell it on you or see open beer cans in a seat).
