  1. They were too expensive for what they were. People did buy them, I have seen a couple in my lifetime (personally). Some even with those horrible composite in capture cards or WinTV cards
  2. Maybe location or environment? When I was in high school and starting college, multimedia PCs were all the rage...seemed like you couldn't go to a micro center without tripping over one...people were so excited that you could watch a freaking DVD on your computer!
  3. Consoles were always just smaller, less powerful computers more dedicated to games than general tasks the PC does. Same is true today. Even though consoles have way way more functions than they did in the past, they're truly a viable replacement for media PCs that were marketed so heavily before the Xbox/PS3 days. until gaming with the cloud becomes a thing.
  4. which you still need hardware to use those online services.
  5. I was making an example. You escalated that with your inability to rationally understand my analogy.
  6. What? I though we were talking about used hardware sales?
  7. Why though? Unless there is a clause about non transfer of ownership, that argument is invalid. Let's play a game then. Using your logic, lets say I buy materials from my local hardware store and make a bird house with it. I then sell that bird house to someone. Did that person I sold the birdhouse to just become a thief? According to your logic, the hardware store just lost material sales because that person bought my birdhouse.
  8. Cheaper for the company not the consumer. Why would the company invest in something that costs them more? I'm not sure what you're arguing about here.
  9. How is buying used goods that have not been previously stolen make you a thief? It is not morally wrong. Pirated software or media is a completely different thing. The person that pirates distributes the content with no compensation going to the creator. That can create hundreds of thousands if not millions of lost sales. If someone sells a CD, that is creating one lost sale. At the same time, that person who sold the CD no longer has the CD. Essentially the creator neither gained or lost anything.
  10. Not as cheap as downloads. I don't know the real costs to publish a title and I doubt you do either. You not only have the disks, cases, and inserts you have to think about waste. As high speed internet is now in pretty much every corner of the marketed nations it makes less sense to spend the money making physical copies. From that it seems like you're just ranting about big business rather than trying to make a legitimate argument.
  11. I doubt that. It is very expensive to manufacturer physical media for one. Two it removes the horrible middle stage of getting a brand new game only to have to download a bunch of patches.
  12. Not necessarily, it pushes the creator to come out with something better so they get sales of new hardware. Otherwise what incentive is there for someone to even sell their old gear if not to buy something newer? It would really suck if Sony released Playstation from the late 90's and never came out with PS2,3, or 4.
  13. The creator was paid with the initial purchase. There is nothing wrong with buying used hardware
  14. Yup it is also the only Sega console I've ever owned...
  15. I assume you're talking about owning them, not necessarily playing them on a regular basis? Ones I have that are not on your list include Dreamcast and Virtual Boy (though more of a show piece...it hurts my eyes way too much to actually play it) Otherwise, after the mid 2000's (fat PS3 era) is when I switched back over to PC gaming.
  16. Make double sure to follow the naming formats for files and folders... https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/media-preparation/ I've run into this before but usually it was a mistake on how I named the file or folder. It especially is important if you start adding music or video files that have no metadata (created content)
  17. Porch pirates don't scare me as much as possible crack heads looking for quick and easy scores following a robot delivering goods inside a house or garage...I'd rather lose my case of toothbrushes than my tools, electronics, or other valuables.
  18. I recently saw this video about the subject. Seems like if you're willing to do a little DIY to make a hub, the payoff would be the ability to use almost any brand of IOT devices. If you want really simple, there are a couple eco systems such as SmartThings and Wink you could go with. But you'll be limited to what devices they support.
  19. Just browsing random server stuff on Amazon and ran across this...

    Seriously?

    Spoiler

  20. That 1GB per TB has been proven over and over to be an..... well... you beat me to it lol
  21. IMO go for the highest density RAM you can afford. Less power consumption and room to expand if you do decide to go with FreeNAS (which benefits from more memory) Doesn't the T410s have 8 DIMM slots?
  22. Ah interesting so you have internal drives only? Well believe it or not that makes things pretty easy... all you would need is either a RAID controller with the SFF-8087 to SATA breakout cables or just plug them into the onboard ports on the motherboard. Sorry I pretty much assume everyone has hot swap backplanes with these old servers...
  23. Those SATA ports can operate as AHCI so shutting down is not necessary required. Out of curiosity... it doesn't have a hot swap backplane? Curious...what was the Perc 6 controller connected to?
  24. True especially if using a SATA storage drive. I haven't messed with the ports on my R410 or R510 other than optical drives. There are SFF 8087 to sata breakout cables but there isn't a guarantee that your backplane would operate properly or not. If not, you lose the function of the hot swap bays and would have to find a different way to power your drives.
