I don't normally post crap like this...but seems like a heck of a deal for people looking for a 1U server that can take 3.5" drives... I already have a Dell R410 but found this while browsing eBay. This is not my listing BTW.

If you want to add another CPU you need another heatsink, I've seen those on Ebay for around $10...

So, why would someone want a server that can only hold 2 drives? How is this better than just shoving them into a PC?

@dizmo It can actually hold four 3.5" drives. It wouldn't be too bad for someone to turn into a hypervisor or throwing a new raid card in and a couple high capacity drives it would make a decent NAS box... but what really makes these old servers shine is the iDRAC remote management. You can actually manage the server completely remotely even if the server is off...which means it can be a true "headless" server.

Either way for $50 it's hard to go wrong... if all else the rails and drive trays are worth that.

Very nice, it's local pickup only though.

@Psittac looks like the seller will ship or have local pickup not sure if they'll ship out of the US though...

To add to the previous post @dizmoThe thing is its a great deal but the r410 is pretty limited due to its thin form factor. There is only one PCIe x16 slot and one slot for the modular HBA or Raid cards that came with some of them. It does have like 4 or 5 on-board SATA ports too so I was kind of toying around with the idea of picking one up to stuff in an ATX full tower to make a low budget NAS.

Ahhh ok, four wouldn't be too bad. Two would be a little too small...but then again, it's only $49 :P

I've toyed with the idea of having something like that for back ups, but then I look at something like an external WD drive and it would suffice.
