A kid at my school has been telling to all the techies that he built a system with 4 titans, 4960x and a whole bunch of expensive stuff and some of them believed him and people started thinking he was actually good at it. A couple of months later, this kid comes up to me and says that his computer wasn't working well and he had really bad temperatures. (90-100 on the cpu). I came over his place and I see none of that overkill hardware, but an Intel core 2 Duo and a very old Asus gtx 550 full of dust. I ask him where his overkill rig was and he made up a whole bunch of lies to get away with it. Anyway, I go and remove the intel stock cooler and underneath I find an enormous amount of toothpaste which went dry and fossilized the cpu inside the socket. When I saw that I started lolling so hard that I thought I was going to die    :lol:

I would try to see if its software related.  Maybe update video drivers, or rollback to previous versions.  do testing to see if it comes up in games, watching movies etc.  See if you can narrow it down to what specific circumstance it shows up.
 
If it's purely hardware, you might be screwed.  I guess you could open it up and start poking around for loose connections, but you might just ruin your machine in the process.
 
I would also try looking for user forums on the manufacturers website.  see if others with the same model have the same problem.

DFGT is a good value option. 
The FFB isn't that good, there is no H Shifter, and no clutch pedal.
Other than that, it's absolutely brilliant. 
Add a joystick and use it like hydraulic handbrake and u've got the sequential shifter.
Mine is still holding even after 4-5 years of heavy abuse  - drifting in LFS for 3 hours straight almost every day with the FFB settings turned up high.

That's better, for that, yes, I can recommend a DFGT. 
It's not the best, but it is in the same price bracket as that thrustmaster and has tons more of functionality.

Just use plastidip and peel it off in case you need to rma the card.

Since it's from 2006 it relies on single core performance, any other cores are used for stuff like terrain/texture rendering. 
I would also suggest installing it to an SSD, when the game loads it doesn't actually cache it to the RAM, it just pulls it from the internal storage on demand, so you will see blurry textures while you're flying sometimes.
