1. Minor edit to set chkdsk to actually fix any errors found while scanning, and to use the %SYSTEMROOT% variable (a tiny fraction of computers will have Windows on a different drive letter, or perhaps the users starts out under a different drive where they saved the batch file. %SYSTEMROOT% fixes that) EDIT: see blurb at the end for a (supposedly better?) method of getting admin as well. I didn't bother putting that in, though. It's just in case you found it interesting. Here's the improved non-vbs way to get admin:
2. Start search uses Windows Search which uses Indexing Service. By default, MS Indexes %programdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu - all well and good HOWEVER, by default, MS DOES NOT index %appdata% -- and in there is %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu - and if you check Indexing Options, you will find that no, MS does NOT include that specific directory. I've sent feedback using Feedback Hub on this, but for now, any items in Users' Start Menu folder and not the %programdata% Start Menu folder will cause delays, and it appears Start Menu will wait for those results, so even if your item is in %programdata%, your result will be delayed. NOTE you cannot enable indexing of other users' Start Menu locations unless you FIRST access their profile folder in Explorer to get access (their folders will show as not existing in the Indexing Options dialog as that dialog does not display folders the user does not currently have access to). ALSO, it will take a while for Indexing to update and include results from the users' Start Menu folder, so either find a way to force immediate Indexing, or let the computer idle for a half hour on AC power when testing this. In summary, to fix this, find Indexing Options in Start, hit Modify, browse to the \Users\{username}\AppData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu folder and hit its checkbox, then hit OK, then OK. To fix this for other users on your system, Open Explorer, browse to and select their \Users\{username} folder, click to get access, then repeat the above process to enable Indexing. Then wait for Indexing to update the location(s).
3. RIP TinyPic... anyone have that picture and can re-upload to Imgur or similar?
4. *whistles merrily* @17:35: "...or maybe like, Linux versus Mac versus Windows, gaming, all at the same time, on the same box, I mean, I dunno, the possibilities are kind of endless here." Although this is a bit beyond triple-booting; you can run them simultaneously, which is kinda freaking cool.
5. Right, so, from the YouTube comments, which illustrate my thought, which is, why not have the combined storage capacity of the mechanical and NVMe, and connect the two servers with a dedicated optical networking link using Fiber Optic NICs (no affiliation: please feel free to refer to any source for FONICs, I just did a quick Duck search). Files not accessed in a certain $time get moved to slow storage. Accessing a file gets it moved to fast storage until it's not accessed for $T. Or if you've got the space in one server you could do it locally. But you need the network share to see both $slow and $fast tier as 1 drive. So network share ONIC (sp?) = $slow + $fast. Internally, however, the server is configured so that files arrive in $fast, move to $slow after specified $time of no access, and get moved to $fast on access in $slow. djdannypachy: HoudWarZ: Nikolaos Videos:
6. I guess I'm meaning that you could pretty much make it water proof if you made both units completely sealed and only transfer the juice wirelessly. But moisture might defeat that, hmm. Especially if wireless charging uses microwave. EDIT: wait, the S5 was IP67??
7. Let's see if I can solve this in one... Magnetically attached slimline battery case that transfers power to the phone via wireless "charging". The wireless power transfer tech is there already. So now you'd have a waterproof sealed battery and a waterproof sealed phone. You could even pick how bulky you want your battery / case to be depending on how much juice you need. As well, I'm pretty sure this would mean you could place the phone on a wireless charging station with no battery and just use it that way in a pinch. Thoughts?
8. Wait, are you saying "legit" meaning legal, or "legit" meaning genuinely the same as the original / working as intended? It's not legal. it is, however, the same code that's running in a Mac or Windows machine (hackintosh / Windows rolling beneath the black flag). EDIT: read your response. Yeah, there's more area in-between. Legal and illegal is one thing. The stuff under the hood is the same. Windows can be activated by simply injecting an OEM SLIC (or even flashing one to your BIOS for it to load) at boot, thus duplicating an OEM license. Then Windows activates itself, checks out genuine, etc. Legal? No. Legit? Microsoft says so (and no, they can't block it, or they would simultaneously block that entire OEM's devices from activating). Mac OS is just a matter of drivers. So if you build a hackintosh, you can select hardware that has Mac drivers, or well supported 3rd party drivers. Is an LS-swapped RX-7 legit?
9. Preeetttty sure that's like saying Windows acquired from torrents (discussing here, not linking) isn't legit. Even when the MD5 matches. ? ...And if he only supports legit OSes, he wouldn't have made the video. The actual reason is, he doesn't really care that much about OS X (see 18 minutes, 30 seconds into the video.
10. That's what I was saying; if you don't purpose-build the computer for Mac, it can get rather interesting finding supported 3rd party drivers and workarounds for the hackintosh.
11. Also, after doing a search, I am dissapoint. After the intro, I'm pretty sure that's Luke doing all the grunt work.
12. *several hundred, FTFY , but I suppose I could have included HP-UX just to say I've used it, or UNIX just cause it's the great grand-daddy of them all. I was going for modern tech-savvy end-user relevance, however. No, VPN Unlimited
13. Someone didn't check my registration date. ? I didn't mean build one, what's the fun in that? I mean take a regular run of the mill PC and do it (it's possible for a decent amount of PCs, just takes some research to be sure all components are supported). And for the record, I use a VPN. Except it's off, cause I'm just posting on LTT. ? And even if I wasn't, my ISP doesn't assign a static IP (do any of them unless you pay extra for it??)
14. Just wanted to see if there's interest (and hopefully get Linus to take this on, it'd be cool I think).
