Is it possible restore burnt pci contact pins?
keshavcolonel replied to keshavcolonel's topic in Troubleshooting
I did turn on the PC, The GPU fans spun a bit, then stopped. There is white LED above 8 pin connector which is working and the heatsink also gets hot BUT there is no video output on the monitor. In conclusion, dead GPU. -

If someone has access to Asus Strix GTX 970 pinout diagram then pls share it with me. I might be able to fix the issue. -
Is it possible restore burnt pci contact pins?
keshavcolonel replied to keshavcolonel's topic in Troubleshooting
I've thoroughly cleaned up the GPU and wiped off any obvious corrosion residue from the board. I'll put my GPU on an old discarded pc of mine which still works. I've checked my test pc, it boots into windows and works fine. It's an Intel i5 4440 and has a single 8gb ddr3 ram stick with 550w psu. Let's just hope my pc boots up to windows with GPU intact. -
Is it possible restore burnt pci contact pins?

It doesn't have any warranty and it's already dead so I might just give it a try. Also I was hoping to get a display output from it. I don't game on it anymore. -

In 2017, a rat entered my gaming pc and it pissed on the graphics card. When I turned on my pc, it fried my poor Asus Strix GTX 970 GPU. Today i decided to take a look it and saw burnt pci-e contact pins. There is no actual damage to the vram, capacitors or GPU die itself. But the contact pins are burnt and something probably decomposed on the card. So, these are my questions- Q.1 Is there any possible way to restore my graphics card? Q.2 Should I clean it up with isopropyl alcohol and try turning it on? Q.3 Will it damage my pc?

Thanks for the help. Looks like I will have to upgrade my case too before installing any RTX 4090 GPU.

I'm a 3D artist and I want to get a new RTX 4090. My PC case is a micro ATX Silverstone Fara H1M. I was wondering which RTX 4090 will fit in my micro ATX case.

Is this normal temps when gaming?
keshavcolonel replied to Hunterkillerdrone's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I was updating bios for installing Windows 11 and now that motherboard is bricked. It was a Gigabyte DS3H B450M around $60 in 2018. I will get a new B550M board for 5900X due to micro-ATX form factor limitations. -

Vrm temps spikes upto 105 degrees on my gigabyte b450m motherboard. Is it normal? I've seen sudden throttle in my ryzen 9 5900x while gaming. -
Want to build computer for sister/upgrade
keshavcolonel replied to xZaino's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I've heard rumours that both intel and amd are planning to drop their support for DDR4 in favour of DDR5. So probably many 600 series Intel boards might be unusable for 13 gen CPUs. It is a rumour, nothing confirmed. -

Go for Intel I5 12th gen and a new b660 motherboard. There's a disadvantage of Intel, i.e. everytime you get a new cpu, you have to get a new mobo with it. -

If you want to go with current gen Ryzen CPU then a decent B550 motherboard with wifi costs around 100-150 USD and you should go with a Ryzen 5 5600g if your old GTX 1060 ever fails on you then you could use the integrated graphics as a backup. If you are considering Intel 12th gen then go with a Intel core i5 12400 and a decent B660 board. Intel offers better performance than ryzen counterparts. -

Current gen Ryzen CPUs and AM4 platform are at end of life. I would suggest if you want to get into newer platform then 12 gen Intel will suit your requirements. If you are already rocking an AM4 motherboard then you might be able to upgrade to a better Ryzen CPU. But if are building a new pc (new mobo, new CPU) then 12 gen Intel is way to go or else you could wait for the next lineup of AMD CPUs and motherboards. -
Run benchmark software such as cinebench, pcmark, furmark etc. for atleast 30 minutes to see which component fails on you. Make sure your power supply is good for running Ryzen 7 and a 3080. If your pc is booting into windows, then it's doing fine. Freezing could be caused by unstable oc, inadequate power supply or temperature etc. Worst case scenario, faulty components.

Your overall gaming pc spec looks great but I suggest you to wait a little bit more for the GPU prices to go down. You can also go with Intel's stock cooler and integrated GPU if you want to purchase an Nvidia GPU later at much better price.

B550 vs X570 for RYZEN 9 5900X
keshavcolonel replied to keshavcolonel's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
That's great to know. But sadly, all B550 boards start at $100 here in India and the MSI B550m Mortar Wifi costs around $190. At this price, one could also enter X570 territory. -
I've heard that be quiet! cpu coolers take a lot of space around the motherboard. Make sure you get enough clearance around the ram slots.

B550 vs X570 for RYZEN 9 5900X
keshavcolonel replied to keshavcolonel's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
My previous motherboard used to thermal throttle my cpu and hwinfo showed the vrm temperatures above 105 degrees. That motherboard was Gigabyte B450m DS3H. Sometimes I also encountered BSOD on it. -

What processor do you own? -
Hello everyone, I was wondering which motherboard should I get for my PC. I currently own a Ryzen 9 5900X and Radeon RX580 8GB graphics card. I casually play and stream eSports titles such as csgo and valorant and use my pc for editing gameplay clips and photoshop. My previous motherboard got bricked during the bios update and now it won't post a damn thing on my screen. Now I need to get a new motherboard but have no clue which one to get. I've heard that X570 doesn't come for m-ATX form factor. I've also heard that a B550 gets the job done in terms of gaming and streaming for long durations. AM4 platform is also at the end of life but motherboard prices haven't dropped enough. So I want suggestions regarding which B550 or X570 one should pair with Ryzen 9 5900x

YouTube Tutorial Bricked My Motherboard
keshavcolonel replied to keshavcolonel's topic in Troubleshooting
I actually unplugged my cmos battery for 5 hours then reseated it. My pc was also not connected to wall and i ensured that there's no electricity left in the board. The only thing I didn't try is to jump the circuit using screw driver. But anyways, I'm tired and now on my way to get a B550 board for my 5900X. -

Update to the situation: I need an AMD APU to post into bios. This soft brick thing somehow disabled the pci slots and it won't post unless you have a cpu with integrated GPU. After this, I'm never ever gonna play into bios. Since I don't have an APU with me, I officially declare this motherboard bricked. Now I want to buy a good motherboard mATX with many m.2 and sata ports. Is there any good X570 boards out there in mATX form factor? Final update: it has been decided that I am going to get a new motherboard (B550 probably) and keep the old one as a retro tech collection. -

Windows 11 installation sucks. First it nags about tpm and system requirements. Then it requires a internet connection. Also there are so many options one must uncheck to prevent unwanted data sharing to microsoft. I guess I will roll back to windows 10 once i get my pc up and running. -

I've only changed that platform key setting in the secure boot after disabling csm option in bios. Will CMOS battery trick restore all bios settings? For now I've unplugged everything from motherboard except the nvme storage and cpu. I'll wait for couple of hours before plugging everything back.
