  1. Okay, after some reading online I learned I could start the computer in Windows Safe Mode. This worked and I was able to download and run DDU to remove the remnants of a broken install of the AMD driver. After doing this the PC will start up and run in "non-Safe Mode" again. So my assumption is that the GPU driver I attempted to update was the problem. However, now I have no sound which I presume is due to the fact that there is no GPU driver and my sound runs via HDMI to my television in my living room. When I attempt to reinstall a driver the exact same thing that caused the original issue happens. Its gets somewhere between 40 and 60% of the way through the driver install goes to a black screen, then blue screens again. Please help! Thanks to all!
  2. Hi all, I'll be really up front about the fact that I'm pretty much a complete newb with a lot of this. I did put this PC together as a little learning project for myself having never built one and had fun doing it but would like a little help/guidance on how to troubleshoot my current issue. Computer is -Ryzen 2400g -Asrock AB350 ProM Mobo -Rx570 graphics card -Corsair 550 power supply Last night I noticed a lot of weird hiccuping in video playback (YouTube) that I thought was kind of unusual. I have been ignoring Radeon driver updates for literally months and figured maybe this was a good excuse to update it and see if it helped at all. I opened up the application that leads me to the drivers (can't remember what its called now) and selected the newest version that I think was in Beta. I believe this is where my mistake was, probably should have chosen the production driver. The update started as normal, I turned away to feed my dog and when I went back to the computer it was on a blue screen. It attempted to restart and only bluescreens again, attempts to "Repair Itself", says it can't, and bluescreens. It doesn't even make it to the log in screen of Windows. I think what I need to do is revert back to the older, or at least the production driver version. Can someone give me some guidance on how to go about getting that old driver off the PC and installing the new one when I can't even log into windows?
  3. So.... I started following your instructions to uninstall the old drivers and when I went to do this I couldn't find any AMD drivers to uninstall....Hmmmmm So I followed your link to download drivers for my processor, downloaded them and the issue seems to be much much less severe than before. Additionally, I now have an AMD Radeon Settings program that I believe installed as part of the driver package that has some options for me to go into and change things. What I'm wondering (based on what your help has led me to) is if I was running on the Native Windows Drivers that were explained to me above this whole time as I never installed any drivers upon first build/setup of my new PC. Is that why my video was so poor and is now looking better? Again, thank you guys for the help! Just installing the drivers seems to have made an improvement!
  4. You are correct, I don’t have a discrete GPU. So maybe a stupid question but if I uninstall the driver will the lack of having a driver installed before reinstalling the new driver cause issues with the PC being able to run....I’m really sorry if this is a super dumb question lol
  5. Thank you very much to all three of you for helping me out with some advice. I'm still very new so sorry if I don't seem to completely know what is going on! Since I am using the AMD APU will I have specific GPU drivers that work for it? I assumed because it was an APU with integrated graphics that I wouldn't have graphic drivers like I would if I were running a discrete GPU.... I'm very sorry but I'm not sure what DDU is referring to....Not trying to be a smart A$$ just haven't heard of the particular acronym. I did connect the PC to my computer monitor that I use as an external display for my Macbook Pro in my office and the issue appeared to be unchanged. I also have heard that the screen tearing cause is because the PC can push out more frames than the display can handle so you are showing multiple frames at one time when the tearing actually occurs. Would I be better off getting a low end graphics card (something like a 1030 or 1050) that might have some additional "settings" the Ryzen APU does not have? For instance could I cap the graphics output to a maximum frame rate to prevent overwhelming the TV? Again, thanks for taking a look at my post and providing feedback, I'm still trying to wrap my head around many of these important details...
  6. So I recently completed the first PC I have ever built. Its pretty basic with the following parts list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Nn9btg. The purpose of this PC is to be a replacement for my cable box, Apple TV, and DVD/BlueRay player. For the most part and for being the first PC I have ever put together it is working well but when watching Netflix, YouTube, and YouTube TV I get the WORST screen tearing on any scene except for those that are very, very low on motion. I am using my television, a Samsung UN55D6000 1080p LED TV. I have found and tried some of the following advice about this after searching online 1. Disable smooth scrolling in Chrome browser (Did not help) 2. Disable hardware acceleration in Chrom browser (Did not help) 3. Tried Microsoft Edge browser (No change in issue) 4. Switched from using HDMI cable to VGA cable (Still have screen tearing and lost some picture quality lol) 5. Use gaming mode on the TV (actually seemed to make it worse) 6. Connected the PC via HDMI cable to my computer monitor (curved Samsung monitor, exact model number is escaping me) and tearing is still present and nearly as bad I have seen several posts about going into Nvidia GeForce settings and changing Vsync settings but I don't believe I have this option given I'm using the AMD APU and not a graphics card. I'm kind of stuck at this point and not sure if my 7 year old TV is the culprit or if there is something incorrect in my settings on the PC. Any guidance or help you may have would be very much appreciated, Thank you!!
  7. Was able to get audio using a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male headphone cable so everything is working now. Netflix in the windows app and in a browser (using Chrome) has a clear picture but the image tears horribly horizontally. YouTube TV does not tear almost at all but has pretty poor image quality and this is compared to "casting" YouTube TV from my cell phone to my apple TV. Any ideas on what to look for? Internet connection is 150Mb down and 25 up, TV is an older 1080p LED and hooked up to PC with an HDMI cable.
  8. Okay, I have the PC built, Windows installed, and up in my entertainment center. The primary issue I am having now is that I'm getting no audio through my HDMI cable to the TV. I'm connected to a Samsung LED TV via HDMI cable and then have an optical audio cable running from the TV to a sound bar. I DO get audio through headphones when I plug them directly into the PC but I don not get any audio from the TV or sound bar with the HDMI cable connecting the TV and PC together. I've done several searches on this now and keep getting the same answer it seems, right click on the volume icon in the lower tool bar, select playback devices, and then select the HDMI source as the audio source. All I see when I select this is 6 "Digital Display Audio" options all of which say "not plugged in", a speakers option (also says not plugged in), and an option for headphones (also says not plugged in). Any ideas how to get audio to my TV through the HDMI cable? TIA
  9. Just ordered everything on the list except for a copy of Windows. Should be here from NewEgg (matched eery price from PCPartPicker's website) in about a week. What is the least expensive and easiest way to get a copy of Windows or at least which way do you all recommend? Thanks again for all of your help!
  10. Really do appreciate the input especially on the Ram! Made those two updates.... https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Hv9Lr6 For the motherboard I chose it list the following regarding memory support... MEMORY TYPE DDR4-2133 / 2400 / 2666 / 2933 / 3200 Will 3000 Mhz DDR4 be acceptable or do you have to have the EXACT ram speed and type specified by the motherboard manufacturer?
  11. Okay I think this is it with the exception of using the 2400g instead of the Ryzen 5 1500 which is just there for a price placeholder.... https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RJQ9TB Im waiting on the gpu and the AIO cooler as I really don’t game and they seem way overkill for just a theatre pc and web browsing and they can both be easily added if need be later I switched to the g skill flare x memory as it seems to be reported as having the best comparability with Ryzen from the reviews I’ve read Thanks to all of you guys for the guidance and help, you guided me away from the i3 cpu which was definitely not the value I think the 2400g will be. I’m sure I’ll be back with more new guy questions.
  12. Awesome! Thanks for the input and that’s exactly why I came here! I’ll do some more research on the 2400g! One other thing I’m not totally understanding is how do I know which motherboards support overclocking? I believe as long as I go x370 or b350 they are unlocked for overclocking....is that correct?
  13. Thanks for the replies so far guys! With respect to your comment about no GPU listed in any of the builds....my basic understanding is that the i3 has integrated graphics and that it wouldn’t be needed. With all the discussion of how inflated GPU prices are right now my plan was to have a build plan that didn’t need one but to which one could be added later if a good deal popped up down the road. Am I understanding that right? Also I heavily considered going Ryzen as they appear to offer killer value but similarly I would have wanted to go with their APU that I believe comes out tomorrow. My hesitation was that because I’m a new and inexperienced builder Intel might have a less steep learning curve..... Thoughts? Thanks again all!
  14. Hello all, Lurked on the YouTube channel for a very long time and have been looking for an excuse to build a PC. I don't game, I don't do any photo or video editing, I have a MacBook Pro that I use for the very rare occasions I need a computer and can't complete something from my phone, I just find the process interesting and want to build a PC. The one thing I can justify building a PC for is a Netflix, movie, and maybe very very light gaming PC for my living room hooked up to my TV so it turned into kind of an HTPC idea. So the goals are: -Build a functioning PC (duh) -Stream Netflix -Watch YouTube Tv/Hulu -Be capable of light gaming at modest settings -Would like something overclockable just for the experience of tinkering with the PC etc -Leaning towards wanting an AIO cooler....just because really...also thought it might be nice in the case I went with a more capable processor down the road.... -Would also really like to be able to run digital cable through the PC using a cable card for the PC but I don't have that figured out yet (any recommendations would be great, the more integrated into the PC the better) Budget: ~$1000 all in (not including keyboard, mouse, or monitor which will be my TV) The following builds are the three options I put together for myself, I'm looking for input on if this is enough for my needs, too much, too little, incompatible, etc ~$941: Intel Based, Water Cooled, Overclockable, 16 GB Ram https://pcpartpicker.com/list/yCv2Ft ~$850: Intel Based, Stock Cooler, Non Overclockable, 16 GB Ram https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zRhYcY ~$740: Intel Based, Stock Cooler, Non Overclockable, 8 GB Ram https://pcpartpicker.com/list/sZDmP3
