Just to make sure, have you tried another gpu ? Doesn't matter which one as long as it fills all 16 lanes. While not impossible, i really doubt that the 4770k is the problem here.

Honestly I don't know what inlet was thinking with x299. Id say no unless if you can get a really good deal on a top end CPU. Some boards are cheap but for a reason, like the x299 raider, its not a very good board. I would not pay anything over 75$ new for one.

And this is coming form someone that had a x79 system and jumped to x299. I sold the x299 system and went back to my x79 setup and drooped in a xeon, second GPU and never looked back.

Best waterblock i know you could get should be the Watercool Heatkiller IV Pro for like €45 here in Europe. Pair that with a thicc rad, nice fans and a delid and you have about the best you can do resonably. Getting a used rad and a used pump and you could probably do it for under $150 tbh

This depends, how much do you care about the Quad DAC, the camera, the removable battery, the 64 GB of storage, the IR blaster, and the Hi-Fi mics? If the answer is you really care about it, then I can highly recommend this phone as a owner/user. But if you don't well then don't get it. Honestly though I love my V20 and currently have no plans to upgrade.

Well as i said previously, buying a decent wqhd 144Hz monitor would cost exactly the same as an i7 9700k + 16GB DDR4 + mainboard. I wanted to go that route first, but since i'm personally fine with 1080p 144Hz i'm definitely looking for a new platform instead of buying an overpriced monitor.

Doesn't really matter since i don't play the games you've mentioned here. As i stated earlier, i love 144Hz+ and i will certainly never downgrade my refresh rate ever. 1440p 144Hz sounds like a better deal than upgrading my whole platform, but decent wqhd 144Hz panels aren't much cheaper than an upgrade for me (cpu, mb, ram). I would love to try an ultrawide though.

Sound like your in the cpu limit there, "bottlenecked" by your i6 4460. Install msi afterburner and check your gpu and cpu usage ingame with the included osd. If the gpu usage is lower than 99-95% you are probably cpu limited in that case. If that's not the case check out your ram usage.

gepowr reacted to xX_TrashName_Xx in Does altering the power limit in MSI Afterburner significantly shorten a GPU's lifespan?
Thanks for the compliment. Got the card for 590€ at Saturn.de (I live in Austria but German shops are sometimes cheaper) with the "Mehrwertsteuer-Aktion" and before receiving it at the pick up in store I got to turn a fortune wheel and won 100€ off my purchase, so I just paid 490€ for the card itself.

The G12, H75, extra fan and heat sinks were another 120€, so in total the project cost me just 610€.

Damn. That looks pretty awesome with the bequiet fan. Well done.
So increasing the power limit basically allows more current to flow through your card. More current could lead to a slightly lower lifespan due to more heat generated and therfore faster degradation. But with your temps i wouldn't worry at all. Components these days are pretty solid and will still work long after they've become obsolete (even when overclocked).

Gaming wise, i7's are nice, but we're in the era of i9's now, which aren't necessarily for games.

I'd look into the i5 9600k, its a $250 chip, so you're not looking at an upgrade that would dole out $500. And if your 1080 is truly being bottlenecked, that chip should get you past that. Having a van load of CPU cores isn't got to mean much in every game, as they vary in how they're built. GPU wise, I don't think you really have a great price per dollar move to make until at least 6 months from now, if AMD delivers on its RX 3000 promises. Otherwise, you're stuck waiting till 2020 in hopes that nVidias RTX 2000 successors make a 2070 cheap enough for you to nab.

You already invested in a 1080 though, so I'd play on that strength at this point and let the markets make a nice price/value pathway forward for you.

I wouldn't go out and buy 1440p or 4k displays though, if you're already having trouble driving them with your current rig you won't be able to address that added visual demand with what you've got. And my feelings are 4-6 months of patience could save you $300+ if AMD meets its mark, which is making 1440p possible on $250 cards. And if they succeed, then all the people who have been holding out on paying for a $350-$400 monitor and a $500 card to drive it will have a viable card at half the price, and the demand for monitors might see some nice price breaks due to two factors. One, an anticipated surge of orders (if AMD succeeds), and two - Lenovo's 240Hz beasts will devalue 144Hz models, likely triggering a sale.

Patience has an opportunity to pay off this year.

Well back in the days i was using a 1080p 60Hz monitor paired with a 4:3 768p 75Hz monitor and it worked flawlessly (windows 7). My current monitors both basically look the same (my acer predator 144Hz has some orange details on its stand but other than that they're looking the same) which i really like. There's no 1440p 144Hz acer with the same looks available which makes it even harder to upgrade. My GTX 1080 would probably hate me if i would run 2 different refresh rates with 2 different resolutions spread to 3 monitors.. lol

That's true and i tried that, however i always see me coming back to thinking of upgrading pc stuff. There's almost nothing better than getting some new parts (or used ones, doesn't really matter to me). I really do wonder why those newer i7's/i9's are so expensive. Back in the haswell days you could pick up the top of the line i7 for 300€. I can't seem to find an i7 9700k under 440€...

Hmm that's a problem then. I don't want to get rid of my 1080p 144Hz monitor since it isn't old and it's a pretty nice monitor in general actually. I love having a dual monitor setup and i don't think i want to go back to just a single one. Maybe i have to take a look at some of these ultrawide ones... It really is hard to think of a reasonable upgrade to my rig right now. At least my arctic accelero for my gtx 1080 is coming soon, can't wait to put it on and check out the temps! Do you know the feeling of wanting to upgrade at least something ? I should probably get a x58/x99 project myself...

What happens when you plug out the Power supply while it freezes?

Is the Fan still spinning when the Laptop freezes?

Is the backlight on the screen still on while it freezes?

When you reinstalled Windows do you use an USB-Drive or DVD and do you boot from it?

Is it correct that the Laptop not freezes if you do not charge it?

Do you have an SSD or and HDD?(sorry I don't know this Model :D)

I have some more Questions but if you answered these Questions I can make some suggestions.

    Thanks,

I was between the FX-Audio Dac X6 and SMSL M3 when I was looking for a budget unit and decided on the X6 I think because the power output was slightly better due to using a wall plug.. but the M3 is supposed to be a good place to start as well + its slightly more portable having usb power..  Also the X6 is slightly cheaper or at least was when I made my purchase.

For 50 fps with a 780 the fx 8350 will do fine i think. Just don't expect 144fps on a 144Hz monitor or somethink like this. For 60Hz i really think that the 8350 is still a good option, but only if you can get it significantly cheaper than a ryzen cpu or the i3.
