Maybe 'journalistic integrity' and YouTube jack-assery for entertainment purposes should not try to inhabit the same space.

Those who believe that the absence of direct monetization and sponsors means GN isn't benefiting need to understand the broader dynamics of online content. It might be worth re-evaluating such beliefs without being overly simplistic.

There are myriad ways to profit from online content, with direct monetization often being one of the lesser earners.

The true value of these companies lies in their audience reach and the metrics they can showcase, which attest to their influence. So, in essence, every video they release contributes to their long-term monetization strategy. This isn't exclusive to GN; it's a common practice for many creators discussing this topic. The intricate nuances of how content creators profit are often obscured from the general audience.

To claim they're not reaping benefits from their content is both disingenuous and misleading.

I have no personal stake in this matter and mostly perceive it as mere drama. To clarify, I'm indifferent to both LTT and GN. While I don't actively follow either, I occasionally watch LTT's content for entertainment.

However, I felt compelled to comment on this.

GN frequently emphasizes morality and journalistic integrity. It appears that presenting an unbiased viewpoint is their primary concern. Every story, every issue, and every facet of life has myriad perspectives. To paint a comprehensive picture, it's essential to present all the involved parties and perspectives. By not reaching out to LTT, GN's narrative seems one-sided.

This approach hinders viewers from forming their own opinions and feels like GN is primarily pushing their narrative.

The essence of journalism lies in neutrality—presenting stories from all angles while minimizing bias. Granted, achieving complete objectivity is challenging.
Ideally, the story should be presented with views from both sides, supplemented by facts. Opinions, if any, should be clearly delineated, preferably at the end.
From my observation, the GN video came across as an opinion piece masquerading as factual journalism.

To be transparent, I lack insights into the internal dynamics between Billet and LTT. Without comprehensive information, I'm withholding judgment on the video's content and the ensuing allegations.

you definitely very opinionated and against new style of doing things, and you definitely seem to not know about the new tools and observability capabilities we have nowadays.
almost no one runs untested development code on prod, at least not companies that have a stable product, but that does not mean that they are not running say canary releases, and i can assure you when running canary style deployments they know specifically whats failing, how and who are the users experiencing the failures.

that's totally fine btw, you may be working in environments where containers, moving fast and monitoring everything may not be possible or plausible, but that does not mean there are not people doing it at scale perfectly fine out there.

i been playing around with fitting all the parts. this is my last attempt. i ran out of 16mm petg tube, i may order more and try to do 2 90 bends on the tube from the RAD to the GFX and try to get it parallel to the other tube.

next step i will paint the RADs red and the grill leave black. i will also be painting all the fittings red.

Different points of views. What I may consider toxicity you may find normal behavior. We all have different experiences in life and have different tolerance levels. (for me he being "civilized" in some videos do not make the other more toxic ones better.)

for the way of it, most of his videos are very scripted but he has a few that are more freeform, and I think that shows up a bit more of the real him.

Again on all of this is just a matter of opinion. I do not know him personally, but I have my educated guess, and that is enough for me to have his content hidden.

(warning I'm very biased towards this guys, I don't like him at all) he thrives on controversy and pushes that a lot for views and comments, in YT and Twitter he always piles up with the trolls and blind fans to boost his ego. I guess once you start thriving and pushing controversy this is one of the possible end results. I don't know if he deserves it or if the claims are possible, but this is the game he plays in the end.

he usually acts very arrogantly in his videos, and when someone points something he does not like he starts piling his fans to attack others that do not think the same way, I think in general the community of people he manages is pretty toxic.

I work as DevOps/SRE and as such I have to deal with code in a lot of different languages (basically whatever the different teams uses) there are days where I have to make code changes in 4 different languages (python, node, typescript, golang) remembering language specifics at the rate I have to change is almost impossible.

I would say that knowing where to look to get the answers to your questions doubts is more important than knowing language specifics, also using IDE's with good autocomplete and deep inspection is a must, also I usually keep a few CheatSheets for the common languages I use at hand to be a bit faster.

if you work professionally on a single language the knowledge will get imprinted in your brain the more you work with it, its just the natural learning process. I try not to get to used to a single language as the nature of my job demand me to be "fluid" in whatever gets thrown at me.

It's more than obvious nowadays that the whole automatic updates model is not providing more security to users, in fact, it may be damaging them, it looks like having vendors close sourcing security or software updates is now a successful vector attack for malicious actors, we need more ways to verify that what we are installing is indeed what were suppose to or actually want to install a mere signature is not enough. waiting for the tech paper by Kaspersky here it looks like the attackers actually took full control of Asus distribution servers and were able to get their hands on the certificate used to sign binaries or at least took control of the servers that were doing the signing.

I totally see your point there, there is a problem of trust, insecurity generally speaking you should trust no one. so if we updated based on a trusted vendor, we already incurring in insecure practices.

what we need are new validation processes where the updater does not assume something is trusted.

I was looking at the art of the LOTR movies the other day and got inspired by the Mordor design to build an ITX tower heavily inspired by it.

As of know, the theme of the build color wise will be most BLACK with red accents the fittings that will most likely get painted and aged. the front panel will be modded for added airflow for the top fan and the bottom Rad fans also allowing a bit of light shining through.

I'm also going to build custom cables for the motherboard and the GPU using paracord sleeving cables will be black and red.

    Parts for the build:
    AMD - Ryzen 7 2700X 3.7 GHz 8-Core Processor
    ASRock - AB350 Gaming-ITX/ac Mini ITX AM4 Motherboard
    Corsair - Vengeance RGB Pro 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
    Samsung Evo 970 plus NVME m.2 1TB
MSI - GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11 GB ARMOR Video Card
Phanteks - ENTHOO EVOLV SHIFT X Mini ITX Tower Case

    Corsair - SF 600 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular SFX Power Supply
    Corsair - LL120 RGB LED 43.25 CFM 120mm Fan x2
    Corsair - LL140 RGB LED 51.5 CFM 140mm Fan x2
    Corsair Commander PRO
    Corsair RGB Fan LED Hub
    Corsair Lighting Node PRO

    for the loop:
    EK-FC1080 GTX Ti TF6 - Acetal+Nickel
    Supremacy EVO
    EK-D5 res-pump combo
    EK-RES Tube 250mm
    EK 16mm Nickel Fittings
    Thermal Take Petg 16mm tubing
    EK Coolstream PE 240mm Rad
    EK Coolstream PE 120mm Rad
    EK Cryofuel Solid RED

updates coming soon with the first concept drawings, I will be documenting all the build with photos in this thread and finish it off with a full video. I will skip the usual product box and unboxing photos as this is not sponsored by anyone ? (though that would have been cool) and just go straight to the build.
