I've just upgraded my Asus ROG GL702-VM GC-0003t which was 6 years old and had a 1060 with an i5-6300hq in it to a lovely Acer Predator Helios G 300 PH317-55-93L3.
The reason for my upgrade was simply the age of my old laptop and because the Acer was such good value for money and I've always wanted a device that rocks an i9-11900H, it has a 3070 (8GB), a 1440p 165Hz screen and an RGB keyboard which adds at least 20FPS to every game I play.
I do a lot of remote work which can be quite graphics intensive and also consume a lot of CPU power so needed something portable and fairly beefy for under GB£1500 and would have loved another Asus as I've found my old one to be super reliable. I found the Acer on sale a couple of weeks ago and it was just to good a deal to pass on.

The selling of fake hard drives on Amazon and eBay really annoys me especially when both sites do nothing to stop it.

The problem is the boot times of ten minutes so it does sound like a clean install of windows on to an SSD/NVME drive would help with that. I have a 1TB NVME boot drive and a Toshiba 1.5TB external HDD for all the crap like movies, pictures and so on. I then have a couple of older drives that I put old media files on to just as a backup instead of using cloud storage.

Just download the latest windows 11 iso and use Rufus to create your bootable USB device. It asks you what you want to disable.

TH3M4DR4TT3R got a reaction from TacoSenpai in Anyone use Proton Mail?
I've been using it for about 3 years and have had only one problem with Protonmail. When using a VPN it can cause their servers to become a bit glitchy, how much of this is down to slow VPN speeds I don't know. I get a message saying "the servers are unreachable, try again later" it works fine apart from that problem and, like I said, this could be a VPN problem. I'm using the built in VPN that comes with Opera web browser.
I like it though and will continue to use it, it's a load better than unseen.is, which I was using before, and protonmail does value it's customers privacy....

Thinking about it I could sell the laptop and build a reasonably good desktop for the money.
Space is my big problem and I can't have a desk so a wall mounted monitor and a slim form case with wireless peripherals could solve my upgrade problems.
This is what happens ya see, I join the forum and Floatplane as a gamer with a laptop and now I'm off researching CPU's and building my own computer
    Sounds like a plan though...

Even if you could upgrade it, all you could do is pay a chunk of money to effectively unlock hyperthreading, which may or may not even help if the game can't make use of the extra threads.

Modern laptops have their CPU's soldered to the main board, a long time ago this type of upgrade was possible but it's not now.

I have an Echo and two Echo dots and we use them all the time, my wife listens to music , gets ideas for dinner based on what we have in, gets pressure cooker recipes and ideas, gets the weather, uses it for a shopping list, and several other things.
I tend to use the Echo 90% of the time and rarely use the dots, I can talk to the dots (downstairs) from my echo (which is upstairs), a bit like an intercom, I can ring anyone in my mobile from my echo if they have the Alexa app on their phone, I can listen to two million songs plus upload my own collection to a limit of 250,000 (I think!), I use Alexa for all my appointments, I control all of the house lights using smart bulbs or smart plugs that link with Alexa, I get a daily news and sport briefing, I get an alarm, do shopping lists, put the kettle on at home when I leave work and loads more.
My kids use Alexa for loads of things including historical, philosophy, sport, wiki stuff, jokes, fart noises, their homework and so much more..........What we use Alexa for increases week by week as more apps are developed, even my kids, aged 9, 10 and 12, add apps at a rate of 3-4 a week. I'm also in the process of setting up Alexa to open the curtains, the list of things we use Alexa for just keeps growing...

Thanks for the interesting post. I stopped using Facebook because of the way it handled it's data and so can other people. The only way companies ever change is if their bottom line suffers, if people voted with their feet and revenues went down then Facebook might change it data policies.
    Really good post though...
