  1. My Predator helios 300, model number PH317-55-93L3, has a non working usb c port. I have changed the settings in power options, reinstalled the drivers, updated the bios and done just about everything I can think of including trying different leads but there is absolutely nothing coming out of the port. I have a lead with a light on that lights up when it detects power from the port and there is nothing from the usb c port. All the other ports are working just fine. Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks..
  2. The problem is the boot times of ten minutes so it does sound like a clean install of windows on to an SSD/NVME drive would help with that. I have a 1TB NVME boot drive and a Toshiba 1.5TB external HDD for all the crap like movies, pictures and so on. I then have a couple of older drives that I put old media files on to just as a backup instead of using cloud storage.
  3. I've been using a 1060 (6GB) for the last 5 years and it's been fantastic. I've used it with an Oculus, tons of AAA gaming and more. My son has a 1660 that has also been great for the last 4 years so I'm on the side of getting a 1060 or the 1050Ti but I haven't used any AMD cards so am probably biased slightly. I'm not a fanboy either way and would use what's best in my experience or I'd use what I could get for my budget as long as it wasn't a complete dawg!!!
  4. Pretty sure a friend of mine had to update the bios on his 450 when he went from Ryzen 3 to 5 a few weeks ago.
  5. Have you tried downloading using a different browser, it could be that Opera is doing something whacky. I've used Librewolf and download speeds appear to be pretty good for drivers and apps although that does depend on the source as well.
  6. I don't get why people don't do research before spending 1000+ bucks. I spent 3/4 weeks looking for a new laptop and I read reviews, checked forums, spoke to owners and so on. I wanted a good multi use machine for work and play, didn't care about battery life and wanted to come in under GB£1500. The choice of machine was pretty big but the Helios came out on top mainly due to the i9, the price and because people who own it said how good it was. You're right... Research is key before spending your money and it's no good coming on here and asking AFTER you bought it.
  7. Thanks, that's handy to know, I had looked briefly at the AMD GPU line up but hadn't made any comparisons as yet with Nvidia. I was here to pick some brains before buying lots of stuff
  8. I just bought a Acer Predator Helios G300 with an i9 and a 3070 for about 300 bucks more than you paid for your Dell. I would consider my laptop high performance for gaming but your laptop only has iris graphics, no dedicated GPU, so it's low performance for gaming but probably higher performance for office work. It would help if you said what you were doing with your laptop, are you gaming, doing spreadsheets, chatting on Zoom, watching videos, Etc. Etc.
  9. Budget (including currency): GB£650-750 Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mainly light gaming (minecraft) and YT. Other details: Four years ago (approximately) I built a pc for my son and was looking at building similar for his friend now. I was interested in how the parts I used in my son's build would stack up for price nowadays and also what could be swapped out to get better performance for the same kind of money. The numbers after the parts are the value if bought new on Amazon UK today although when I built my son's PC I got lucky with a nearly new GPU for only GB£90, everything else was bought brand new from a variety of places (Amazon, New Egg, Currys) My son has: GTX 1660 200 4 x 4GB 2333 RAM 60 Ryzen 5 3400G 120 Corsair 550W 80plus gold (I think) 60 MSI B550m (AM 4 socket) pro with wifi 130 Generic case 60 and generic cooler that came with the 3400G. If you think there are parts out there now that are better value, better performing or have any ideas relating to the new build, for my son's mate, please comment and let me know what you think. I don't mind whether parts are for an AMD or Intel build as long as they keep within budget of about GB£700. Thanks..
  10. I have just posted about the amount of fakes on Amazon, especially hard drives, and their inability to do anything at all about it. IMO they are not a reputable site and in one case I had to take them to small claims court to get a refund on an item that arrived but had been removed from the OEM packiging. They refused to believe they could have shipped it like this or that it had gone missing in transit so refused the refund, I then filed a claim against them and uploaded video of me opening the package to find nothing inside. Thankfully the judge believed me and ordered Amazon to refund me and pay costs plus compensation.Amazon then sent me a small hamper of goods to apologise which was nice but I won't use scAmazon for anything expensive, or for computers, anymore.
  11. You are in effect selling a used PC because you offer no warranty and you are not the OEM, what you are is a person who has bought cheap parts / deals and built a PC that you want to sell on a primarily 2nd hand marketplace. Whether the parts are new to you or not isn't the point, the fact that you are NOT a business definitely is, though as previous posters have said a 2nd hand PC at 300-400 under MSRP just isn't enough of a bargain for many people to want to risk the lack of a warranty and the risk that the parts aren't genuine.
  12. I've just upgraded my Asus ROG GL702-VM GC-0003t which was 6 years old and had a 1060 with an i5-6300hq in it to a lovely Acer Predator Helios G 300 PH317-55-93L3. The reason for my upgrade was simply the age of my old laptop and because the Acer was such good value for money and I've always wanted a device that rocks an i9-11900H, it has a 3070 (8GB), a 1440p 165Hz screen and an RGB keyboard which adds at least 20FPS to every game I play. I do a lot of remote work which can be quite graphics intensive and also consume a lot of CPU power so needed something portable and fairly beefy for under GB£1500 and would have loved another Asus as I've found my old one to be super reliable. I found the Acer on sale a couple of weeks ago and it was just to good a deal to pass on.
  13. The selling of fake hard drives on Amazon and eBay really annoys me especially when both sites do nothing to stop it.
  14. I've just watched a video on LTT from 2018 where Linus was reporting on scam SD cards which got me to thinking just how many fakes I could find on Amazon UK searching for "external hard drives" and only looking on the first 5 pages of results. I have included the ASIN so you can easily search them up on AMAZON UK. Here's what I found....... B0BNXRPXVY B0BNXN82HW B0BNXT5L3X B0BNW9HR6V B0BP16RG5J B0BNZG82J1 B0BLJQCF65 B0BKXSPSRP B0BKXRJ9W4 B0BNZJ36BV B0BN1M5NS3 B0BN1JZ87L I reported this to Amazon, the 3rd time in 3 months I've reported fakes, I've reported Amazon to trading standards (in the UK) and informed the police, but nobody ever does anything and it's the people like you and me who get ripped off, the oldies who buy their grand kids a hard drive for xmas, the younger kids who can't spot fakes and so on. This needs to stop and LTT has the platform to do something about it. Thoughts please???
  15. I think this is going to be my option..
