  1. thanks very much, really appreciate the help I suspected my old chip would be a problem. I found this website that tells me how crap my CPU is with modern cards, I didnt realise it was this bad. Thanks so much everyone, I will stick with the 1070 for now and just buy a whole new computer at some stage. So glad I asked first. thanks!
  2. Hello Old school PC guy and completely out of touch on this new stuff, can i get some help please. Im looking at upgrading from a GTX1070 to a RTX3080 and before I push go, im confused on a couple of things. Performance of the card I've got an older PC with a i7 4790k and 24GB ram. Will my CPU be fast enough to get good performance from the RTX 3080? Powering the card the version im looking at requires 3x 8pin power connectors. I have an older cooler master V850 with 4x 6 pin PCI power connectors only. Can I just buy 3x '6 to 8 pin' PCI power adapter cables and be ok? Thanks in advance
  3. yea im thinking lower and fat might sit on the floor and be a bit more discrete The HTPC cases just appear so restrictive so im a bit cautious on it Sorry the term "wife acceptance factor" is used heaps in the home audio community, basically means it needs to blend in or not stand out so my wife doesnt go nuts. So no go on the pink. I think im right on the line with my audio gear being pretty large.
  4. Hi Im looking for a nice compact case to hold my existing kit and up to a couple of new graphics cards This is going to live in my living room as a HTPC The gear in trying to fit Asus P8-Z68-V Pro Mobo which is ATX size i7 2600k with Corsair H100 XFX 850PSU ATX GTX 980Ti (I havent bought this yet but need a case that can fit 2) Im thinking of the Corsair Carbide Air 540 http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=19992 Is this case any good, i think it looks pretty cool and looks like it has a heap of space. Any other suggestions for a HTPC to hold this gear and offer decent thermals and have a fairly good "wife acceptance factor" cheers and thanks in advace
  5. Thanks very much to all you guys who responded so quick. I will now keep an eye out for a bargain on a 980Ti and a more "home theatre" looking case. Cheers, much appreciated!
  6. Thanks guys, ive currently got it running at 4.4ghz and its been on that overclock for years now and been stable
  7. Hi Ive got an old gaming rig that im thinking of converting to a home theatre pc to plug into my 4k tv. Im wondering if its worth my money to upgrade my graphics card to run 4k to match my tv. This is what i have so far i7 2600k (Stable overclock at 4.4GHZ) Asus P8Z68-V Pro MB 16GB Corsair Veng Ram 2x GTX480 SLI The rest doesnt really matter If i were to replace my GTX480s with a single (for now) GTX 980Ti, do you guys think my older CPU and Mobo will bottleneck the system in a noticeable way? I would rather recycle an old computer and throw $1300 NZD at a GPU rather than refreshing Mobo and CPU and spending less on graphics card as this really is just a bit of a play around system and i dont want to spend too much on it. Thanks in advace Cheers
