My little brother the other day came up to me while doing research on both YouTube and New Egg for my new build. This is the conversation that followed.
Him: What are you looking at.
    Me: Computer stuff.
    Him: Why?
Me: Because all the computers that I have now a slow (true, both my Mac's have huge bottlenecks)
Him: There slow, because you bloat them
    Me: ......
I have no idea what he ment by that but still, when has the amount of data on a mechanical harddrive affect the speed of said drive?

Yep. Pretty disappointed, but to be expected. AMD needs a very good chip next gen to get me to go red and abandon all of the perks of the Intel platform.

J3v400 got a reaction from Dabombinable in AMD dropped the ball with the AM4 specifications for AIO coolers
    ^^ Yeah, this ^^.

This whole launch feels like a rushed 'day-before-it's-due' school project in a way where AMD (barely) had their act together and failed to inform the rest of the team when they were done.

It's understandable that AMD wanted to be rather 'hush-hush' about the chips themselves I guess and 'surprise' Intel with the launch, but couldn't they ask for confidentiality from the board vendors if that was the case?

J3v400 reacted to MakeAMDGreatAgain in AMD Naples coming Q2 2017
I already know the whole "you get what you pay for" shtick. But what I am saying is, even that is true (I AGREE, THE first AMD Benchmark tea-bagged Intel in an equal core comparison). This DOESN'T make the 44 vs 64 benchmark fair. Just because something performs better at a better price point is absolutely IRRELEVANT to the validity of a benchmark.

So please stop trying to distort native benchmarks just because it's a "fair price comparison".

J3v400 reacted to Eaglerino in Is anyone OK with the new thumbnails and titles?
You aren't the only one, in fact one of my threads about it got way more attention than I ever expected. Anyway main result is that these thumbnails and titles feed off people with impulse control issues, giving Linus more views and as a result money, so there's no reason for him not to do it. Completely understandable, still freaking annoying... (Mordin Solus sniff) unlikely to change.

Stay tuned everyone.  I am about 66% of the way done benchmarking this chip against 2 others I own.  I'll post my results, but check out my feed on LTT for the actual video.  But a few weird things.  In many games my 4690k has a much lower min and slightly higher max thus far.  Frame rates are much more consistent.  No overclocks and I still have the bench my 4790k.  Below are the games I did.

    GTA V
    For Honor
    Watchdogs 2
    Battlefield 1 (new one)
    World of Warcraft (flight)
    3D Mark Firestrike

J3v400 reacted to SMURG in Why is there a "sillicon lottery"
The key thing to grasp aside from all the wafer stuff is that Intel's fabrication guys don't sit there and go "hmm, let's make a batch of 4770ks today". What they actually say is "let's make a bunch of 20nm CPUs today and see what we get".

Those CPUs with a fully functional iGPU, all 4 cores working at 3.5Ghz (with 1 boosting to 3.9Ghz) and able to perform hyperthreading without losing stability or requiring a higher voltage will be labelled the i7s, but even among those there is some variation. Some will be able to go as high as 5Ghz just fine, some will barely make it past 4.0Ghz. THAT is where the wafer distance thing really comes into play.

Sometimes all 4 cores work but cannot drive 8 threads; those are your i5s. Sometimes 1 or 2 cores are non-functional, those are your i3s. Those which have cores which work but can't perform the right speeds at the right voltages becomes your celerons and pentiums.

In simple terms, CPU manufacture is not an exact science, and so the product reflects this.
