  1. some more info before i swap the new parts firefox kept crashing and not starting had to refresh it in order to start again, google earth too crashed and then it started only after restarting the pc.
  2. also same issues happened with windows 10 versions 1507 1607 1703 and 1803
  3. I forgot to mention that i plugged my gpu (asus gtx 970) to see if there was a problem with on board graphics and i still had the same issues.
  4. Hello guys i seriously need some help here, a few months ago we had a power surge or something and my father's PC burned the mobo and the psu, since it was an old phenom i didn't even try to find a new mobo so i went off to buy new parts. I ended up with this, motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B250M-DS3H, cpu: intel pentium G4560, ram: crucial CT8G4DFS824A and a coolermaster 400w psu, i kept the old ssd cause it was checked and seemed fine. Didn't bother with a graphics card since my father is just using the pc for internet browsing and nothing else. After a couple of days a constant barrage of bsod's started to occur, every time with different error codes mostly memory_management and ntoskrnl.exe. Ok i say fresh pc lets reinstall windows in case we f**** something up, format, new install and the windows installer kept crashing, i created a new iso and it kept crashing again, i even downloaded pirated iso's and it crashed again, eventually it installed windows booted up i let it install all updates worked for a few aaaand bsods again. I gave the ram to a friend to test it and after 3 days of testing with memtest, gaming browsing and everything the ram worked fine. Ok i say the issue is mobo or cpu, i stripped them off sent them to the store i bought them and they send me new ones, i also got a new ssd for just in case put everything back together installed windows, did all the updates, worked perfect all afternoon. Gave the pc to my father last night and this morning guess what bsod again. I am really starting to loose hope here and i am gonna throw the damn thing in the river. I dont have the logs to post now cause i am not at home will post later afternoon if needed. So driver issue? mobo settings? please give me clue!
  5. So the gray slot is physical x16 and wired x16 and the slots 3 and 5 are physical x16 but wired for x8, ok now i understand! Thank you guys for your replies they were all very helpful.
  6. Wow that was quick thanks guys, it finally made some sense as far as theory goes but right now i noticed that not all the slots are the same on the mobo, some have pins all the way while some have half way, my gpu is now seated at the grey slot (1) where is the second card supposed to go?
  7. Hello and first of all my apologies if this is something that is cover in a previous topic but i am really confused with pcie expansion slots and sli cards. I was thinking of upgrading to a new gpu but the prices have skyrocketed with all the cryptocurrency farmers so i was thinking of adding a second gpu instead. My system uses an asus z97 pro gamer https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z97PRO_GAMER/overview/ motherboard and i i am currently using an asus gtx 970 https://www.asus.com/us/Graphics-Cards/STRIXGTX970DC2OC4GD5/. I have found exactly the same card to use but i dont understand how the expansion slots are working (Single at x16, dual at x8/x8, ) does that mean that the adding a second card will cut it's performance in half? or that the gpu can work at full speed at both x16 and x8?
