goto10 got a reaction from diphendum in Can different speed RAM sticks run at the same time?
the new modules, if the motherboard accept them, will run at 2400mhz
all modules are forced to run at the speed of the slowest module

goto10 reacted to takithes in Radeon RX 5700 or 1070 ti
i think you should go for the 5700, or if you can put a little extra the 5700 XT, but just wait for the better models to come cause i got the reference XT and its having massive heat issues while under big load, and well i'll be watercooling it soon but yeh

goto10 got a reaction from Nanook in Is G-sync/Freesync Worth it?
the tearing happens when monitor and gpu show images at different times, some methods do decrease performance and introduce lag, imput lag
i have a potato gaming pc, if i enable for example vsync the tearing goes away, but game suffers, i see some hard stutter from time to time, not confortable at all, i ended up leaving it disabled, i prefer the tearing that is not that hard
on those specs you listed there you will easily be closer to the 144 hz in most situations, you might do well without it, yes
but, what if
lol

goto10 reacted to Arttu89 in disabling ram
It's quite unlikely it would give you that much more battery life. Ram takes very little power overall.
Not necessarily, it depends on what kind of chips are on the current ram sticks you got and what kind of chips would be on the new ones, but even if you have half the number of modules on a stick, that's not going to give you 20 extra minutes of battery life, it's more likely to be like a minute or two, if not less.

goto10 reacted to Metallus97 in Recycling/disposing of AIO properly
Well I am trying to be ecological to
So this depends on where you live and how your countries waste handling is considered.
If you want to do it properly you will have to disassemble it yourself.

goto10 reacted to Mathieu9836 in Cannot get into BIOS with Ultra Fast Boot
Have you tried Gigabyte's FASTBOOT app to get into BIOS?
Or this: Boot to the Windows 10 login screen.
2) While holding the Shift key, restart the computer.
3) Click on the Troubleshoot button.
4) Enter UEFI Firmware settings.
5) Restart as instructed.

goto10 got a reaction from gumbopot in GPU for AMD A8-6600K
remember that bottleneck is just unused potential on the cpu or the gpu
of you get some bottleneck the pc will go just fine
i have here that cpu but paired with a gtx750ti, does well on most games on low to medium at 30+ fps, perhaps more, is so old now, i think i built it in 2013 or 2014
buy that gpu, enjoy the pc and then replace cpu, ram and motherboard, it is what i would do

goto10 got a reaction from alen6 in soundcard for HIFIMAN or what?
nice headphones!
the motherboard soundcard can handle them afik
but you might want to buy a dac or a headphone amplifier to take advantage of the high quality pf those headphones
most motherboard soundcards are just ok for games and basic stuff, music and movies perhaps will take more advantage of it and the headphone amplifier could be a great idea there

goto10 got a reaction from DumboDodo in What's the best Benchmarking software?
none, you want to measure every detail to perfection
your best tool would be excel, where you will be taking notes when each tool runs so you have values of what, how and when
to be honest, i never heard a question asking a so detailed tool to benchmark
most people just want to run their pcs stable and enjoy it

goto10 got a reaction from LogicalDrm in What's the best Benchmarking software?
dont depend on a single tool
use the same as most youtubers use
sandra, cunebench r15 and 20, blender rendering the same file, cristaldiskmark, geekbench, cpu z
the most used to compare your pc with others is cinebench r15

Thank you.

goto10 got a reaction from dalekphalm in Modelling Shared Workstation
linus did it but was a massive failure because is not practical
you put all your eggs in one basket, when one of the virtual machines crahses the others end crashing or requiring a system restart
you basically make a mess of cables, spend way too much on motherboard and cpu
better go for traditional workstation, one machine, one user

well, this is how
still we all learn or remember when a question like this comes, nothing bad in that

goto10 got a reaction from Hold-Ma-Beer in Wifi card for new build?
some wifi cards dont need driver, windows might already have it, if it uses a realtek chip, windows might have it, at least it has happened many times in the past here

well, i would just not go that route

goto10 got a reaction from TooUnskilled in Just bought an m.2 NVMe drive, what now? :)
i bought a nvme recently too, it is fasters but is not 3 times faster than a ssd, so i can understand your point of view
it wasnt supposed to load games 3 times faster when compared to a ssd, the reading of small files will make it work slower than just reading a single big file, just as it happens with a hard disk or ssd, and games are like that, lots of big and small files all the time
if cristaldiskinfo and cristaldiskmark doesnt report anything bad, well, return it and buy a different brand to see if things improve, but this is a case of expectations vs reality
i think that the cpu processing power and the game itself can be a limiting factor
most video editors love these nvme because they work with lots of big files and need access to the instantly and nvme can do that very well, i personally find almost the same as that video, from my old ssd to this nvme the jump is really diminute in these tasks i do, perhaps if we came from a hard disk, things would be different

+1 on what @goto10 said.
If you'd like, I'm sure some of the members here (including myself) could suggest single-user machines that would do a great job.

goto10 reacted to Kisai in anyone game on 802.11n?
Do not game on wireless connections. Period. The WiFi parts will consume CPU, and if the CPU reaches a certain load, it will certainly drop the wireless connection. Weak wireless connections will draw more CPU time from the CPU.
For gaming (not streaming/downloading) you should only use a wired connection, even if that means using a USB ethernet adapter. You can certainly "play" a game on wireless, but unless you're the sole person using it for a mile around, and have no other wireless gear, you are not guaranteed any stable connection, and the wireless will add 2ms to most latency round trips even on clean connections.
This is also why you should not game using 3G(UMTS/HSDPA)/4G(LTE) unless it's a very turn-based game (like most mobile CCG's.) As the connection quality is subject to the whim of the carrier and other people connected to the base station.

goto10 got a reaction from Balor in is the amount of internet my pc is using normal?
most games will use around half to 1 megabit of speed, what you need is that megabit
you can even play with alot less than half megabit of internet connection, as long as the ping is good
only games using voice chat use more than 1 mbps
