Bsmith got a reaction from Space Reptile in wikileaks reveals CIA hacking tools
source: https://wikileaks.org/ciav7p1/
It has been done!
wikileaks got their hands on a compresive list of CIA tools used to break into computers, phones and other systems across the globe.
Down below there will be a few quoted pieces from the source, this is quite a major finding if you ask me.
Title: Press release
Title: CIA malware targets Windows, OSx, linux, routers
Title: CIA 'hoarded' vulrnabilities ("zero days")
this is big and drastic, besides what I named there is also a piece which claims that the US consulate in frankfurt(Germany) is actually a base for CIA hacker's within europe, the middle east and africa.
as always it's hard to tell how much is true since it is wikileaks, but then again I wouldn't be amazed if this is all true, it's the CIA afterall, which has a "reasonable" reputation for acting outside US borders.

won't work at all, since a computer needs to be able to get rid of the heat that it produces and a vacuum won't allow for heat transfer.
even if you allow the heat generating parts to have contact with air outside of the vacuum, the amount of material you need makes it not very efficient, it would decrease cooling performance, which raises the temperature, which is already a problem for some modern electronics.

Bsmith reacted to AkiraDaarkst in Rate the Photo Above you
Horizon seems to be a bit tilted, there aren't any real clear lines that lead the eyes towards something interesting, colors look a bit washed out (likely because the photo looks like it was taken on a very overcast day), it absolutely looks boring. If this photo is supposed to be an artistic shot, I don't really see any artistic value (at least in my view). I see at least three interesting architectural structures in the photo that might have made better shots if you focused solely on them. The greenish building on the right, the shapes and patterns on its exterior walls. The metro entrance ways, with their half sunken sideways cone shapes. The geodesic dome building behind the brown building that has what looks like McDonald's written sideways.
Another potential point of interest would be that glass/brown building in the far middle, with what looks like a white circle I guess is the logo of the hotel. From a distance it looks like a moon reflecting off the glass.

For the tilting, skew, distortions in the photo, the latest versions of LR has a panel called Transform where you can make corrections. Sometimes it's just easier to correct it in post than trying to correct it during production. To get it correct during production, you need proper placement of camera and lens, or even specialty lenses (namely Tilt-Shit lenses).
Or you can use a plugin called DxO Viewpoint, which I personally prefer because I think it's a much more powerful tool. This video only shows a small part of what it can do, the latest version has some improved and new features.

Original post:
It looks like people actually stole prototypes from the razer CES booth this year,
this is a major issue regarding other possible cases of theft at CES,
although not much is known like what prototypes or when they where stolen.
Since they are speaking about 2 prototypes it's fair to assume that it is about project valerie and project ariana, which where to my knowledge the only protoypes showed off by razer this year, so it's either one of both that went missing or two of one project. From Cnet, with thanks to @Kierax

it looks like it where two of the laptops that have been stolen, with a suspected worth of $25k, this sounds as a lot for 2 laptops, but let's not forget that this are prototypes/proof of concept devices, for the company that made them they are worth a lot more, but the value is probably based on the fact that they don't come rolling of a production line and mostly have been hand made or with special fabrication methods that are not available on a large scale.
let's hope that they catch the thief/thieves soon, some people just that it is "just" razer, but let's not forget that the result of this case can set a precedence for future thefts of other companies.
Update2:
It looks like the prototypes have been seen on a chinese resale site, which confirms suspicions of earlier people,
from loveley WCCFtech, thanks to our darklord @Sauron but also a special mention to @MyEngGooest since he/she reported it before, but sadly with links that I cannot properly visit without a redirection to the wrong page.

This is both good, but also bad news, the seller is probably known and can be identified, it's not a crappy marketing idea of razer;
but to get the prototypes bacl they first need to find him and get to Chinese authorities to cooperate in this witchhunt.

two razer prototype laptop's got stolen, razer put up a bounty of up to $25k, a witch hunt started, but people aren't taking it serious and think it is a "promotion stunt" which ended up in news sites reporting fake news and so much jokes/stupidity being thrown around that it's hard to know what's real and what not.

it wasn't going to happen quickly anyway I guess since both products are more the "proof of concept" type of thing then actual working devices, the difference between those is that proof of concept shows that it is possible but is allowed to have flaws, while a working prototype is close to the final product.
-
Bsmith reacted to Gali in [update2]Razer laptop prototypes stolen at CES
We may not all like Razer as a company, but theft of even a proof of concept is wrong. Until we have some kind of news on who did it, or the hopefully possibility that is was simply misplaced (though highly doubtful at this point), then it's best to not even joke about Linus or Paul or Jason or any other known and good-natured tech reporter stealing it.
Sure, Linus' sense of humor is omnipresent with his reviews and coverage of new tech, but these are serious allegations from Razer. Let's keep our guys (and gals) out of the path of the finger point.
-
Bsmith reacted to Gali in [update2]Razer laptop prototypes stolen at CES
That's quite the tin-foil idea. Entertaining the idea that it IS 'inside', if it ever came out that the company did this as a PR stunt, that would look extremely poor on the company. I doubt they would risk such self-defamation. The tech field has high stakes, and a lot of these companies, including Razer, are interested in the long run. To sabotage their own company for such a short-lived limelight is quite a ridiculous idea.
Anything is possible, though, so we'll have to see.
