Linus just had to squeeze a “but muh personal attacks…” in his “taking full accountability” apology.

    Dude runs on feelz.

    also…

    - Apology video is monetized.

    - LTT/LMG merch staged on set.

    - Links to merch in video description.

    - CEO jokes about cutting to a sponsor, twice.

    - Price of Billet Labs cooling block is posted (£2000) after BL specifically asked for them not to do so (It has since been blurred out in the footage).

    - “69” reference (reinforcing Madison’s take on company culture).

I’m watching a colossal train wreck in slow motion.

If there's one thing in this whole mess that I wholeheartedly believe in, then it's that Luke has nothing or barely anything to do with any of this. He's always been a voice of reason and never given me a reason to doubt that.

At what point did Steve say to go to his merch store? He is using the same set he uses in every video.
If people still think GN made the video for drama and views after all of this then I'm not sure what to say, nothing is going to change your defense of Linus because you think of him as your friend.
Again he's using the same set he always does in videos, he didn't monetize while LMG did monetize their video and plugged for the LTT Store. His video wasn't about it doing well at all.

Comparing this issue to someone killing themselves is a weird take, and rather insensitive IMO. The lengths people go to defending Linus doesn't surprise me though.
What GN wanted out of this is for LMG to realize their mistakes and improve content quality, also because LTT has a testing lab, if they want to seem like a professional company doing real testing then they need to make sure the tests are accurate as possible.
GN has been careful about criticizing LMG for a while now because of the fanbase that always defends Linus no matter what they do or what dumb take they have. The GN video needed to happen and its things people have been complaining about for years now. Even with the GN video and the recap with more info, people are still getting emotional and defending Linus while they to do damage control.
I find it interesting people think doing investigative journalism is somehow "milking". I guess watching informative videos that call out companies for their BS and anti-consumer tactics just isn't for you then.

From other posts I've seen in this thread, Madison apparently recently moved to Canada at the time, so maybe they didn't know what their legal options were at the time.
I can understand why they went on twitter/X for it, the platform used is besides the point IMO, the only other option they would have is contacting LMG personally, which wouldn't make any sense as LMG dismissed it when Madison left and stated the reasons for leaving.

Yeah a connector needs to be designed to eliminate any risk of not plugging it in all the way,  IIRC he said it needs to be plugged in all the way, and that the design needs to be improved.
Steve also talked about cable mod and how they were doing a better job at resolving the situation than Nvidia, Nvidia didn't want to take any blame they just blamed PCI-SIG for the connector even though Nvidia chose to use a new connector. I don't get how PCI-SIG thought it was a good design, and there is a revision to the design with shorter pins, which Nvidia has been using without recalling any cards using the previous 12VHPR connector.

Wow! First off wrong! Steve didn't create a toxic mob. Linus did when he went a little off the rails in his response - he was angry, we all do stuff we aren't proud of when angry.

The community has come to rely on LMG to be honest - this has shown that they have not behaved that way. I would say that Steve did his best to call out a channel that was getting too crazy. All in all - this is a good thing. Sure people are angry, but this is the wake up call LMG needed. Just look at the "Employee answers" video - they were all begging for a slow down in pace. Maybe this will bring that to them.

Gamers Nexus has a goal of generating revenue as well. It's not as nearly as big as LMG, but it does exist to make money and gives their employees a paycheck. They generate money from monetizing youtube videos, as well as sponsorships and selling their own merch.

Leaving monetization on the LMG apology video is forcing anyone who doesn't have YT Premium or adblock to view ads that directly benefit LMG's corporate coffers before they can watch LMG give the apology. It sends a message that, like every other upload, this is viewed as a money making opportunity. When combined with the merch link in the description and the plug of the screwdriver, it erodes the authenticity and sincerity of the apology by making it seem like this video is business as usual. It shouldn't be, but that's the message these things said.

Similarly, the "sponsor - just kidding" jokes cheapen the nature of the apology because it makes it seem like the people making these jokes are treating the apology itself as a joke. It's jarring and it has no place in this video.

I genuinely have much appreciated for GN getting the ball moving, so we can start shedding light on what kind of person Linus really is, especially with all this here from Madison, which likely never would have been brought to light if not for him.

It makes you wonder about other employees that have left. Look at Taran, one of their OGs, and how he left the company after all those years. I don't think he would have been mistreated since Linus and him go back, but I can only imagine how over worked he likely was. Especially after so many of their employees were vocal in that video about how overworked they were, and how much content they're forced to produce.

Wow, Linus doubled down on the LTT Store ad, IMO having some humor in the video is a bad thing when it should be a serious video addressing how they can improve, and IMO they plug the LTT store too much in videos.
Also its not a good look with them monetizing the video and bragging they're essentially getting a free one out of monetizing it.

I disagree, LMG has been making obvious mistakes for years, getting into to controversies like the backpack warranty that could have been easily avoided by consulting a lawyer first, or having a company meeting first, but Linus feels like he needs to have control over everything.
LMG is a large company now and they need to act like one, and the community needs to treat them like one and be willing to point out their mistakes. Linus and LMG aren't your friends.

Linus said that where's smoke there's fire in the context of Blizzard's case. Shouldn't it also apply here?
Furthermore, they should address this because they're always preaching about "transparency",  "accountability" and so on.
Finally, what she is saying is not that hard to believe. We have been discussing a lot the toxic work culture at LMG in the last two days.

Well yes. You can tell someone had to vet the scripts, because they are all looking at a teleprompter. Their eyes are fixed on point that isn't the camera.

Anyways beside the point. They probably had a lawyer vet it (which is what you are SUPPOSED TO DO) and tell them not to deviate from the script. This is a "We're sorry, we will do better" video, not a fluff bit.

When you have more than 10 staff, you should be running every communication you have with your clients through your lawyer, because the more staff you have, the greater the damage will be when someone's off-the-cuff statement lands in front of the wrong audience. That is what started all this. People saying things off the cuff, and then being called out on it, and quite frankly failing to read the room. Lack of communication, missing chain-of-custody for items they were supposed to review and return, sloppy editing techniques to "fix" videos with wrong information. No company is going to be perfect, and there will be mistakes, but there shouldn't be so much mistakes that someone doesn't even need to cherry pick a video to find it, they could have picked ANY video in the last 12 months and likely find at least 1 factually incorrect error, and several lazy edits made in post in a 16pt white font.

Like just from a business point of view, you DO NOT let people speak on behalf of the company who are not authorized to do so. Linus may be the face of the company, but he is not the CEO anymore, so he should NOT be speaking on behalf of LMG. That's now Terren's job.

There are other things things that Linus probably should have just just not spoke up about without a lawyer weighing in and instead running it to Terren to decide what, and who should apologize for it.

And LMG makes an apology video in which:

Multiple sponsor jokes (not funny or cool in an apology video) Direct dialogue plug of an LTT screwdriver Merch link in description of video APOLOGY VIDEO IS MONETIZED If anyone wants to complain about GN demonetizing their video and having no merch links or mentions of the specific merch in the video dialogue, but that it merely appeared silently on screen, what LMG did in this apology video was far worse.
