  1. "Latitude ON is an instant-on computer system made by Dell. The system is based on a dedicated ARM processor (Texas Instruments OMAP 3430) that runs a custom version of a Linux OS. Latitude ON runs MontaVista[4] Linux on an ARM-based subprocessor.[5] This so-called MontaVista Montabello Mobile Internet Device Solution provides a customizable, Linux-based Mobile Internet Device (MID) platform the laptop is able to boot almost instantly and view Email, document reader, calendar, contacts and access the Internet. Dell claims that battery life can be extended to days. Latitude ON Reader is similar to Dell's MediaDirect where the software is located in a separate partition on the system hard drive and has a dedicated button to power on." took that from the wiki
  2. upgrade ram , upgrade to ssd How much you upgrade by is up to you. nice things: - backlit keyboard (most laptops had at least a white backlit as an option) -bigger battery if (available) - cpu if it is upgradeable (Most arent)
  3. any laptop will benifit from an ssd .I have in the past upgraded my parents toshiba satelite with 3gb of ddr2 ram (not even ddr3) and an intel celeron processor it was never fast by any stretch of the word but now running xubuntu and with the ssd fitted it is now fast on most basic tasks .I got that 120 gb ssd for 40 euro second hand off a friend but since then prices have dropped a good bit . i would still recommend if pricing seems to put them off it on a laptop that would probably be worthless than the ssd to get second hand (making sure it wasn't over heavily used through samsung magician or similar.
  4. what sort of college work will you be doing ? i do software development on on a second hand dell latitude e6330 that i got for around 120 euros got second hand ram(ddr3 8gb 1600mhz (45 euro)) and a samsung 850 ssd (500 gb (170 euro ).battery was reading as 50% consumed so i invested in an extended 9 cell one (40 euro) added in a backlit keyboard( purchased oem backlit keyboard (15 euro). current specs 12 gb ram 6 hours minimum (most its lasted was 9) battery life 500 gb ssd windows 10 i5 3380m (2.9 ghz turbo up to 3.5 backlit keyboard ;P total cost 390 euro look you get when a laptop from 2013 kicks ass - priceless -looking back if i was to get this again i would go for the latitude e6430. larger screen plus cpu isn,t soldered
