mister_s got a reaction from Propphet in Dell Combo Headphone Jack Mic not Detected
So I've got a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 gaming, and I'm trying to use a headset with it however when I plug it in, it still uses the built in laptop microphone.

    I've tried:
I've tried reinstalling drivers Switching between drivers (Windows Default and Realtek HD Audio) The windows default works the best, it actually switches between audio outputs consistently, however the input device is stuck on the built in laptop mic.
Any suggestions? Is there some Dell software crap that I'm missing, it is a clean install of Windows?

It's a proprietary port for a Lenovo ethernet adapter, according to this review: https://www.thinkscopes.com/2014/12/10/lenovo-thinkpad-x1-carbon-gen-2-review/
Which would also explain the network symbol next to the port.

    Well here it is:
The full video on some of the key points in the build. Hope you enjoy it.
I'll be posting some other pictures later as well, and perhaps some benchmarks if I get around to it

I converted a Mac Classic II into a more modern PC, here's a quick teaser:

I'll update the post once a the full video is done. Hope you enjoy.

This build is a recycle from various other parts, so they are slightly dated, but let me make a list here:
    CPU - i7 2600 GPU - GTX 1050 Motherboard - Asus P8H61-I R2.0 PSU - Seasonic 350W Eyoyo 8" Screen RAM - 8GB DDR3 Storage - 1TB Hitachi Slim drive + 64GB SSD

I don't think I'll be using the microcontroller idea, however I might give the D-latch a try.

    Thanks for the replies!

Sorry for my error above @mister_s. I guess that's forever written in stone.

The error that I made was using an SR latch instead of a D latch. With the SR latch, Circuit A will always toggle whenever Switch B transitions from low to high. With the new circuit, that is avoided, because Switch A only works when Switch B is off, and Switch A enables it's own latch. This circuit will work to do what you want to do. The total cost should be less than 10 dollars.

The reason that I have transistors (at the output you could use relays) to drive everything is because this circuit will either be at 5 volts or 3.3 volts depending on which components you decide to get, and I don't know what your actual circuits/switches need to run at. In either case, this is the control logic for making sure that circuit A will only switch states when circuit B is off.

    What are you building anyway?

The Kotetsu is a better value at a few bucks more. The Pure Rock performs similarly to the 212 Evo whereas the Kotetsu is in the 'better than 212 Evo' tier with coolers like the NH-U12S.

I suppose a headset could potentially be useful in a situation where you don't want to bring a desktop mic, such as when traveling. However I would recommend a pair of headphones if you are already going to own another desktop microphone
